Has anyone heard anything about when this tour will start?
Or where all it will be going?

I swear there was some reference to the tour starting around March from someone in the band. However, I think that was a while back, like in October around the time of the start of the US tour, so it's likely things could have changed since then anyway. But it would kind of make sense if they are anticipating a March release of the album.

If they are starting the tour in March, we might know the first dates in just a few weeks.

no official release date of the album yet, so I would imagine that will come shortly and so will tour dates. Probably going to be hand in hand.

Since the PI release is on Record Store Day, I hope they play another show at Space1520/Amoeba in LA like they did in 2010.

In the mail from SPRC we received a few hour ago (the one with the link towards the Have Faithe, Be Merrie download)

"And last but not least, there's been some talk of a very special tour for next year..."

"Very special", what is this supposed to mean? Speculation is rife... ;)/>

I don't know... What would be so special in the fact that they start playing Oceania as a whole? It is kind of expected to my opinion.
I'm hoping for guest appearances or something like that, leading to totally new duets (fingers crossed).

Anyway I hope you are right about the emotional stuff even though I think that some of the tracks we've heard this year are already deeply emotional (I'm not really proud of it but I once had tears in my eyes on Pale Horse...).

Hmm I am not sure what will be special about this tour. They will be playing Oceania promoting that and by then the MCIS will be re-issued so they will play some of them songs hopefully album tracks.

Maybe the special bit will be Jimmy will be back in the band and maybe James will guest appear on some concerts but I doubt it.

I was hoping for more along the lines of, stumbleine, tales of a scorched earth(aint happening but a man can dream), and i know this wont happen cause people would get so pissed over it but farewell and goodnight with nichole doing darcy's vocals and mike doing james, i just want to hear what that at least sounds like but i can already see people starting a war over them doing that

I really doubt it as well. Moreover I'm not sure this would be a great thing for the band. The current line up starts to get really tight. I feel like (but I may be wrong) that Oceania songs benefited from this cohesion and that each member brought his contribution to the yet to come album, whatever the way. Honestly even though I would love to see Jimmy or James play again I think that bringing them back now would be nipping the revival of the band in the bud.

Surely I wouldn't be pissed off! I'd love to hear the combo of sister tunes Ruby+Stumbeleine or a good old Toase. If I chose MCIS as my favorite SP release it is because even though the songs are very different from each other on that album I can't think of one that I do not like. It goes from very subtle soft rock ballads to heavy metal tunes and contains the widest range in emotions in its lyrics ever. This is what makes it masterpiece to me, and not the whole concept thing or whatever. Consequently I'm eager to hear new versions of each and every song from this album.
Nevertheless I must admit that the songs played live this year were not far from the album versions. Still a pleasure to hear them though, and I can't think of another good version of Starla for instance (if anyone remembers one let me know I'd genuinely love to hear that).

Blitz took down the article, though, so it can't be confirmed completely yet. I tend to believe it's probably true, though. See:

i wouldn't put too much stock into the spfc page you linked. until confirmation, I'm sure those are just placeholders. They wouldn't be privy to any information ahead of time.

lol I put the Lisbon & Chicago dates up on spfc myself. And yes, they're under rumors. The only one I feel remotely confident in saying I think will probably happen (like maybe 80% or 90% confident) is the Lisbon date.

Hi, I'm new to this site. I have always been a fan of SP but in the last year my love of them has grown. I do have a question though. I have never been to a SP gig. What are they like? I went to see Foo Fighters in Milton Keynes last year and I have never seen a crowd like it. Just so totally pissed out of their heads. Since then I've been kinda put off going to gigs. So I ask what are the crowds like at a SP gig?

It varies quite widely based on a number of factors such as:
  • Where the show is geographically
  • The type of venue
  • The crowd and their familiarity with the band
  • The setlist
  • Whether the band is having a "good" night

As far as my own personal experiences they've been a lot of fun, especially the 2010 and 2011 (←these vids should help give you an idea of the crowds energy) Terminal 5 shows. I enjoyed these shows much more than the 20th Anniversary tour show in Uncasville, CT. I think the difference in venue (Terminal 5 is small, intimate, and is standing only) played a big part in my overall enjoyment. http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/board_new/public/style_emoticons/default/happy2.gif

I agree with Bounty' here.

May I re-post a picture I've already posted in the SP section. It's a collection of pics from the last european tour following the US one (the other side of the Kaleidyscope tour).
I personally found the shows really great as far as setlist, music, vocals and audience were concerned.
At least they were good enough for me to attend two of them in two different countries, and I've already started to save money for the Oceania tour.
Basically the audience is also what people in the pit want it to be, so come to the next show close to where you live and YOU make it happen. ;)/>

Thank you so much for replying Bountiful and Sophie. Looking at those 2 great videos that's the sort of gig I want to go to. Where people go to enjoy the band and music, not to get drunk and cause as much trouble as they can. If they tour England especially at an intimate gig I'd go in a flash.

i always travel to the smashing pumpkins shows in england, with the sole purpose of getting absolutely drunk beyond repair. those are always the best shows, and in england you have the best crowds for this, no matter what band you're seeing.
last time i had a bit of a hangover when i went to the show because i drank too much already the day before, but that didn't stop me. cheers! i even burped at a girl on the tube.

100% agree!
People who go in with an attitude of just wanting to see a great band play a great show usually come out having a MUCH better time than people who go just to hear 3 of their most popular songs.

Also, get there a bit early and make friends in line. The band has toured enough so that most people at the shows have seen them before, and if you ask, i'm sure the people in line will be glad to share stories of their SP experiences with you. I've found that to make the whole nights experience more personal, memorable, and enjoyble.

I saw SP for the 1st time at the 2nd of their back-to-back Brixton shows in Nov. 2011 (the other side of the kaleidyscope tour).

Crowd was pretty good - enthusiastic and not too p*ssed/rowdy (not around me at any rate). For me (I'm an old [aged 38] fart, btw!), there were just a couple of negatives -

The support band (Ringo Deathstarr) were just too f*cking loud and as a result I don't think I could hear the Pumpkins that well.

I was knackered by the end of the main set - just through standing in that environment for soooo long :nope:/> Would I go and see 'em if they play in England again though? Deffos!

The support band (Ringo Deathstarr) were just too f*cking loud and as a result I don't think I could hear the Pumpkins that well.

I was knackered by the end of the main set - just through standing in that environment for soooo long :nope:/> Would I go and see 'em if they play in England again though? Deffos!

I suppose this would be a good place to mention Billy is contemplating an audiovisual component to the 2012 tour.

ruby isn't a lesser played song, they play it constantly.

Yeah, because not playing it live for almost a full 11 years (counting the 7 year inactivity) totally falls under "constantly." Do you hate the new band so much that you don't even know what they've been playing live? Pfft.

Here's a message from The Cold and Lovely

"Nicole will be off to Pumpkin land at the end of April, so we’d like to try and fulfill anything includes an appearance with her before she leaves for their “Oceania” tour."

Rehearsal only or tour dates prior to Lisbon?

Because of the forthcoming reissue of MCIS and because I reckon it would totally fit in the Oceania atmosphere, I think Porcelina would look great on the setlist of next tour.
Unless of course if the setlist is "Oceania only" (in that case could Porcelina be the encore?), or if it appears to be a little too much tone on tone. ;)/>

Or maybe it is just me feeling like listening to Porcelina in the past few days.
