Crestfallen.com: What surprises can fans expect inside the upcoming Oceania release?
Billy: None. Just music and art.
Crestfallen.com: When can we expect to see the reissue PI ?
Billy: Very soon. Delayed by production issues and some legal snags. Strong package though.
Crestfallen.com: Why did you choose EMI for the release of Oceania?
Billy: Best partnership opportunity
Crestfallen.com: Will the Smashing Pumpkins be playing any warm-up shows before you go to Europe?
Billy: No comment

So my reading is:
1) Oceania will not have 7 editions with alternative covers.
2) PI will come out at some point in time. Yeah... great news.
3) The answer about a tour seems to most interesting to me. I'd say they are working on it, but nothing is sure.

typically, if a tour were to take place, say in June, how little notice is typically given? Like would it be possible to announce tour dates late April if they are starting the tour in June?

one thing I have noticed over the years is that many of the shows have been announced with only 2 months or less before show date. and yet other artists give many many months notice.

We're down to just music and art? When did this happen? What did I miss? Where did the big hoopla, Oceania "experience" disappear to? yk, fireworks, clowns, jugglers, professional wrestlers, blah blah

Perhaps Billy thinks every word he says is a nugget of gold cast to the peasants. Perhaps you do too.
Unfortunately not everyone is going to be sycophantic enough to act like an interview with clipped, half-hearted responses and no real info is an exciting read.

I don't know - maybe I have read/seen too many interviews with Billy - but it seems as though he has been asked everything under the moon already.
I think the point was to just get some kind of update on the upcoming SP events - better than nothing imho!

sometimes he is chatty other times he isn't. i was surprised to even be asked.
So he contacted you to do this, right? But you came up with the questions?
It just seems so weird that he'd set up an interview to say nothing at all. Maybe just for fun?

But it's been asked to death already, and the answer never changes. There's practically a new thread every month doing some variation of "ZOMG! Iz TbK DEAD!?!?!" and the answer is consistently "No". Oceania being consistently referred to over the last year as the "album within the album" furthers this. Carrie, I'm not meaning this necessarily at you, but at anyone who's up in arms over nothing: unless he says otherwise, nothing's changed.
And people, come now. Did you really expect anything more revealing in a BC interview? Nothing's changed, nothing's new, nothing's different. So just relax and wait it out, regardless of whatever your concern might be.

The key is the phrasing. What's next for TGBK after Oceania? What aspect of the tarot (a key theme of TGBK) does Oceania relate to? What songs from Oceania were culled from the early TGBK sessions?
What will become of the Spirit In The Skies band demos? etc

I'd say it's far too soon to be concerned with that. Oceania hasn't even been released yet, let alone all the touring/ promotional stuff that will follow in the months/ year to come. What's after Oceania is irrelevant at this point in time.
ArticulateEric, on 04 April 2012 - 02:34 PM, said:
This is one of those examples where he has said things have changed. He mentioned in a recent interview that he hadn't given any thought to the tarot idea for a while and had essentially abandoned that theme.
ArticulateEric, on 04 April 2012 - 02:34 PM, said:
An interesting question just for curiosity's sake, but one without much bearing. At least to me personally, it makes no difference which Oceania tracks are from 2009, 2010, or 2011. I only hope they are good.
ArticulateEric, on 04 April 2012 - 02:34 PM, said:
This I would like to know the answer to, but I'd be willing to bet if there's any slim chance of us getting any post-Zeitgeist demos it won't be for a while. If the SPRC were a little better at keeping contact with the fans, I'm sure that'd be a solid request to put in, but again....

There are, I believe, over 70 demos of released and unreleased songs. At least 15 of which are worth a release at some point that have Mark Tulin playing bass and Mikey playing drums. Still trying to figure out what to do with those.

Though is it understood that the Pumpkins are going to Europe first on the Oceania tour? I was selfishly hoping for US tour dates to start with.

Help
