i don't like the synth notes, although, i hope the intro (no guitar) is like 20 seconds instead of 50.

Ants will burn if Billy doesn't include the beautiful synthesizer in the intro. Ants will burn!

I don't understand why people like the intro so much, There's not much happening.. The melody is very simple and it's too long. The bass line however is very good and adds an epic feeling to it, Hope it's in the studio version. It sounds too much like background music

it IS backround music, thats the point it plays int he backround getting drowned out by gutairs when they come in

I like Pinwheels alot. The beginning guitar riff reminds me of a New Order song and then when Billy starts singing it reminds me a little bit of Mayonaise. I like it!

Yeah that beginning guitar riff is instantly classic in some weird way. Sounds familiar to me. Nice little song.

I think this song is absolutely stupendous. At first when I listened to it and heard the intro I was thinking that this was going to be another shit Teargarden song. But when that guitar hit for the first time it all just clicked to me. It created such an amazing atmosphere.

Does anyone else think that it's weird that the synth intro is in 3/4 and they're playing the song in 4/4 on top of it?

I hope the recorded version sacrifices the introduction. It probably provides a nice build up live, but it's a bit of a chore to hear on your Ipod. Otherwise, this is a nice song. It's a little choppy sounding right now, but I'm sure the recorded version is more together.

I wouldn't want the whole intro gone. It's you be cut down though. It's like 1:30 live. Just 30 seconds would be good.

i think they need to keep the intro with a little bit of the synth solo mabey 10 second long, then have the part where the synth and gutair are both playing for the rest of the opening till the song starts

Billy plays chords with the 3/4 in the 3/4 section, and then the music changes to 4/4 when he begins the guitar riff. I know because there's a turnaround at the end of each play of the guitar riff that sounds just like Owata that bothers me, and it's definitely in 4/4.

Another interesting point, when the full band first comes in, a phrase is 1 measure of 4/4, 1 measure of 6/4, and then 2 more measures of 4/4. And there's 2 of those phrases in each prechorus.

But cool time signatures don't make a cool song. WWMM was in 6/4.

I pleaded for Billy and the band to play Pinwheels in Detroit via his twitter account. Perhaps it worked ;)/>

I tried my hand and ears at deciphering the lyrics. It is pretty.

Mother Earth
Mistress of the Sun
Say, I've got you, I've got you
Sisters Sun
The lovers of the tomb/tune?
Say, I've got you, I've got you

Floating away, I think I'll stay
As for you
Floating away, I think I'll stay
In the moonlight
Floating away, I think I'll stay
Next to you
????
Cuz you don't deserve me
But I know that I deserve you

Mother Earth
Mistress of the Sun
Say, I've got you, I've got you
Sisters Sun
The lovers of the tomb/tune?
Say, I've got you, I've got you

Mother Earth
Mistress of the Sun
Say, I've got you, I've got you
Sisters Sun
The lovers of the tomb/tune?
Say, I've got you, I've got you
Oh I've got you
Oh I've got you, mother moon

Floating away, I think I'll stay
Next to you
Finding a way to make the loss ?
Floating away, I think I'll stay
????
Finding a way to make the loss ?
Floating away, I think I'll stay
Cuz you don't deserve me
But I deserve you
???
???
??? lost, if I've got you

Based on your efforts, I took a stab at the lyrics here: Pinwheels

Still a couple of lines I don't quite get...

Mother Moon
Mistress of the Sun
Say "I got you, I got you"
Sister Sun
The lovers of the tune,
Sing, "I got you, I got you, I got you"

Floating away, I think I'll stay
As with you
Floating away, I think I'll stay
In the moonlight
Floating away, I think I'll stay
Next to you
Finding a way to make the loss of you
Cuz you don't deserve me
I know I deserve you

Mother moon
Mistress of the Sun
Say "I got you, I got you"
Sister Sun
The lovers of the tune,
Sing, "I got you, I got you"
Mother Moon, Mistress of the sun
Sing, "I got you,I got you, Oh I got you."
I got you...Mother moon

Floating away I think I'll stay
as refuse
Floating away I think a day with you
Floating away I think I'll stay
Next to you
Finding a way to make the loss in you
Cause you don't deserve me
I deserve you
....
....
Nobody wins
Nothing's lost
If I've got you

Those are what I hear. May be wrong, but I can't possibly hear "of the tune".

I'm listening to this:

Mother Moon
Mistress of the Sun
Say, I got you, I got you
Sister soul
(When) love is out of tune
Sing, I got you, I got you, I got you

Floating away, I think I'll stay
As for fuse(?)
Floating away, I think I'll stay in the moonlight
Floating away, I think I'll stay
Next to you
Finding a way to make the loss in you
Cause you don't deserve me
I know, but I deserve you

Mother Moon
Mistress of the Sun, Say,
I got you, I got you
Sister soul
When love's out of tune, sing
I got you, I got you
Mother Moon
Mistress of the Sun, Sing
I got you, I got you
Oh I got you
Oh I got you
Mother Moon

Floating away, I think I'll stay
Next to you
Finding a way to make the loss in you
Floating away, I think I'll stay
As for fuse
Finding a way to make the loss in you
Cause you don't deserve me
But I deserve you
F____ (?) for the M_____ (?) Queen
But life for the prayers
If nobody wins
And make this loss
If I've got you

I just transposed this song to E and it sounds very much like the lead in Cherub Rock. Maybe that's what you're hearing.
