From iTunes:

"Frequently beloved and sometimes controversial, Billy Corgan could always write a classic song. On Oceania, The Smashing Pumpkins' singer/songwriter/bandleader demonstrates over and over that his gift for melody and memorable hooks hasn't diminished. "Quasar" opens the album with an urgency fueled by drummer/vocalist Mike Byrne's insistent timekeeping and a twin six-string attack by Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. "The Celestials" boasts a strummed acoustic guitar and a Corgan analog keyboard line that make it an instant in-concert sing-along candidate, while "One Diamond, One Heart" and "Pinwheels" have majestically sequenced arpeggio lines that recall the Pumpkins' past alternative radio hits. "Pale Horse," in turn, is fitting showcase for bassist/vocalist Nicole Fiorentino, who makes an ideal singing partner for Corgan."

Noice. Are they going to finally announce the fact that the album will be streaming in a couple of days? I'm assuming a press release is forthcoming on Monday?

also since im learning there are a small amount of us that like these things everyone hates, ill ask this, who eles here actually likes the synth on teargarden, owata is the only one id prefer without it but ide be lying if i said it sounded bad with it, hell call me crazy i think owata was the best song off of (studio)teargarden rivaled only by maybe song for a son.

I've always hated synths, even on tbk but they've grown on me a lot. I don't think they're all necessary but they have their place in some songs.

Also I love lightning strikes :rolleyes:/>

Yep, if you listen to them Pale Horse is practically a duet.

---------------

I have technical issues with the big streaming event that will take place tomorrow.
I have installed itunes on my laptop and I succeeded in reaching the following page.

http://i47.tinypic.com/25h0754.jpg

Nevertheless I do not have an Apple account, do you think I have to create one to be able to listen to Oceania, because honestly I'm a bit reluctant...
I don't want to give informations on my credit card and so on since I probably won't buy music from itunes in the near future (I usually go to record stores as I prefer physical copies).

Any clue?

You should be fine. Just go to the main Music Page tomorrow and there will be a big hyper link to the stream. You shouldn't need an Apple Account, but they may change that. If you're apprehensive to start an account, I don't think you have to have a Credit Card on file. I think you can just give your email and a fake address if you want.

I've had my Apple Account for years so I don't know all the details, but I've had luck signing up for fake accts on foreign iTunes in the past few years by putting false addresses in, and using Gift Cards to buy the music. This is a good tip to anyone who wants to buy music early, or snag up those weird B-Sides and Foreign releases. Get the Gift Cards from ebay.

Sophie, how did you find that page? There is a page for "oceania" on the danish itunes page but it doesn't look anywhere near as fancy as that, and i'm strongly doubting if it will include the pre-release stream.

you said it was always a pleasure to meet another Smashing Pumpkins fan OP
you were referring to smashingbtws, weren't you.
Do you not consider the band now to be the Smashing Pumpkins, just cause Billy had replaced a couple of people.Did he really have a choice in doing so?I feel he and the new members are entitled to be observed as the Smashing Pumpkins. They are the smashing Pumpkins, now.
I do miss Jimmy. but, Mike is a fantastic replacement. And as for Darcey and James,i think billy is better off without them.

I'm more worried there's not going to be a stream tomorrow, i find it a bit suspicious we don't have any announcement nor confirmation about this one, just speculation and billy's hesitant words during an interview. Also didn't he say during that same interview the album was going to stream on the site of that radio station? *confusion*

First and foremost many thanks to the people who answered my question and for the tips.

I can now bring my little contribution to this problem:

You can follow that link:
http://itunes.apple....pkins/id1646302

Then click on "Oceania" and you should get there:
http://itunes.apple....nia/id529989970

Then you can click on "View in iTunes".
At that point they said to me that the album was not available in the french store but that it was in the US one and they asked me if I wanted to change store and I said "yes". After that iTunes launched and I saw the beautiful page I took a pic of and that I posted in my previous post.

Et voilà !

Feel free to post again if you experience trouble in reaching that page.

Thanks Sophie, found it, and checked that i was able to stream the Usher album from the US store. I don't think you need to be logged in in order to do so.

Hey agent_cooper :wave:/>!

I'm a bit worried too. Especially since there's nothing on the "news" webpage. :scatch:/>
I want to trust Billy when he says that something is about to take place, but there's no evidence of it anywhere on the iTune website. Or maybe it is because it won't be international?

Anyway I was kind of hoping something visual in addition to the streaming audio session. Maybe some psychedelic artwork at least. I really wonder what this is all going to look like.

hello sophie, well they are closing the imagine oceania contest and announcing the winners tonight according to nicole's facebook page, and remember Bill selling his 'visionary' ideas of getting everyone to hear the album at the same time before release? nothing of it would make sense if they were to stream it on itunes to a limited audience restricted to the US area... I had more expected a live cam of the oceania cruise and hearing the premiere that way, that would be cool but well we would have had news by now then i guess. We'll just have to wait this one out, enjoy ;)/>

When I clicked the link my iTunes said the item wasn't avaible for the brazilian store, only for the american store.

Then I changed my store and it's showing now.

Another "preview":

The Smashing Pumpkins

Oceania

Alt-Rock

4 stars out of 5

With Billy Corgan, bigger is better. And his latest project — the ongoing 44-song Teargarden by Kaleidyscope — is his most ambitious since 2000’s Machina. In keeping, this ‘album-within-an-album’ bears all the classic Pumpkins hallmarks: Searing guitars and busy drums, epic songs and complex arrangements, wistful romanticism and bombastic grandeur. His best work in years.

i think it means those are the tracks to watch out for. I think for all the other albums listed there, they also offer a couple of "Download" tracks.

I would almost rather the album didn't stream. Kind of ruins the whole going to the store to pick it up on release day, and listening to it in a zen like state thing. I realize I don't have to listen to the stream, but I don't have the self control not to. Ill say one thing, ill be going dark from any Pumpkins related forums for a few days. Even if its a great album, I guarantee this fan base will find problems that aren't there just to nitpick, and dissect in a ridiculously OCD, and butthurt manner. Id rather just listen to it for a while with no outside opinions chirping at me.

Do we know if this is a one-time live stream, or something we can start at our leisure tomorrow? I have to work, then I have band practice, and plans for after that as well, so I'm not going to have time to sit down and listen to it at a specific time tomorrow. I'd rather just wait until I buy the album to be honest. I don't like having to stream it, but I don't want to wait another week either.

Well, the Usher album that is up on itunes has been available to stream for a number of days now, so hopefully Oceania will follow suit.

That would be great. I'm a bit disappointed though that I couldn't find the time to submit something. I know I still have one day left but I'm up to my eyes with work right now. (I know I take the time to post but those are just micro breaks).

Well I don't know what we would have seen. I don't know what is going to happen on that boat but just looking at people listening to the album wouldn't be that exciting. They said the scenery on the lake is pretty nice though, maybe we could experience Oceania a little bit the way people on the boat will if they filmed the landscape for us? Billy also said he could play a few songs live, but I count on Monte or anyone else around Chicagoland to tape this for us anyway.

The only reason they are streaming it, is under the assumption that it will leak this week if not by tomorrow. Streams allow 'non-internet' people to hear it at the same time as the early downloaders.

I'd say good job to EMI at this point. The fact that there's STILL no leak means somebody is doing their job. Tomorrow's stream will ensure everyone hears it at once which is cool... assuming a link doesn't get out today. All depends on when they shipped (or ship) the cartons of CD's out to Target, WalMart, etc. Looks like the vinyl is pushed back to July 2nd (no surprise).

I've always hated synths, even on tbk but they've grown on me a lot. I don't think they're all necessary but they have their place in some songs.

Also I love lightning strikes :rolleyes:/>

wait always hated synths, gasp tell me you didnt hate try try try, that songs one of their best

His best work in years.

huh wasnt expecting any good reviews, still calling it that rolling stones will give this a 2.5 if not lower

Its guna drive me mad but I like a few people here will not be listening to the stream. Surely having waited this long its better to wait one more week and get the cd so it can be listened to without sound quality issues or through shitty speakers..

Seriously? :sly:/>
It just says that I don't need to attach a credit card to my Apple account. Thanks crepe!

I'll try again to create myself an account tonight. When I tried this morning they asked me plenty of things including a credit card reference for further potential purchases. I thought it was weird so I immediately stopped the registration. :what:/>

Edit: "da fuq is that?" almost seemed like some strange language to me... Hopefully I know some "text slang". ;)/>

You can take the option to use pre-paid card to put cash in your account. That way, no credit card is attached to your account and you could still buy something later on Itunes.

How rude. :nope:/>

Hold on. This RS review still says 4/5, but their artist page says 2. :/

Hey guys, I'd like to hear the streaming on that equipment. It seems convenient for a space journey and I'm pretty sure it does have good speakers... B|/>
(Thanks Hater for the link towards the pic).
