Did anyone else's remastered CD not ask for a designation of the original SD or the remastered SD when importing it to iTunes? Just curious. Not a big deal since I renamed it anyway. Plus my original SD was labeled as Rock and the remaster is labeled as Alternative.

I just bought the 'Siamese Dream' box set last night ($26.99 at 'Best Buy') and it's fucking awesome, man. The main lure for me was the dvd of the August '93 album-release gig. I watched the whole thing straight through and it's as mesmerizing as it is killer! "Rhinocerous", "Starla" and "Soma": amazing.. "Cherub Rock", "I Am One" and "Siva": fucking on it and fierce! Sometimes within the same song ("Geek U.S.A."). I never got to see the full original band live, and they didn't disappoint (I only saw them once during the 'Mellon Collie' tour when Matt Walker was filling in on drums). That, and 'Oceania' has hit me as an album experience. Billy's sense of melody flows as it should. The band sounds like a band and they really did a great job with this album. Because of how much I'm getting into 'Oceania', it's turning me back on to the other records again. So many other musicians and wanna-be hipsters and indie scenesters have bitched about Billy because Billy can write memorable, enduring songs, and a lot of these other bands can't write to save their own life. Jealousy over being that talented and being able to work it and have it translate.. Peace.

How do I get these download codes to work from the SPRC that came in the deluxe Siamese Dream and Gish reissues? I don't see anywhere to input the code for them.

I haven't even gotten that far yet. I dig how thoughtful and detailed the packaging is. How's the 'Gish' reissue, in particular, the live dvd for their '90 show at The Metro?

I haven't watched the DVDs yet. Right now I have OCD so I'm trying to find out how to enter in the codes, or WHERE DO I ENTER the codes for these free downloads? The Gish reissue AUDIO is freaking awesome and so is disc 2.

The download codes were for SPRC songs that had previously been released for free online. These were the songs, although i'm not sure you can download them from soundcloud.

http://soundcloud.co...ns/sets/sprc12/

However, this is the internet. If you seek, you will find.

Thanks. I'm fixing to pick that one up soon, too. Yeah: I went straight for the live show. It's only now that I'm getting around to the actual audio discs. Thanks for your feedback about 'Gish'. Peace.

Most people seem to agree that Billy's vocals are mixed a bit too loud, you can't really hear the instruments as well as you would like.

Oh. His vocals and levels sound fine for the August '93 dvd. That show is awesome. The only song I can picture being missing from the set is maybe "Window Paine". Other than that, it's a choice mix for a setlist circa '93. Thanks for the details about 'Gish'.

If you go to sp.com, click on albums on the top menu bar, then click "reissues" (either Gish or SD) and on the right hand side you can enter your redemption code.
Or, you can click here:
http://www.smashingp...s/gish-reissue/ and enter it on the right hand side (where it says redeem code here).

Sweet. But are these indeed the songs mentioned above that I already have? If not, I'm going to have to rummage through my garbage.

Yep. I can't remember which either. I think one of them was the Drown 8-track demo.

It's a good buy, particularly the deluxe editions. But I admittedly haven't watched the DVDs yet...

I've only bought the single cd reissue, but I think I should have bought the deluxe edition. Even though the bonus material isn't great, the packaging and artwork is enough to win me over as of now. Same goes with Gish.

the dvd's are almost worth the price alone, especially the SD one.

Well said! That's why I ultimately bought the 'S.D.' reissue: the live gig. Killer stuff, man...

I think the SD Pissant has a bit more treble and less muffled instruments or something compared to the PI mix. Also the vocals are more on top and dryer.

Since I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for my canadian PI reissue, I've been giving "Lollipop Fun Time" a spin.
Really has grown on me.
One thing that struck me right away is it really captures the narrative of a band just jamming endlessly on these slightly undercooked hard rockers, flailing a bit as their sky-high achivement still eludes them. Through the course of the album, esp. with it ending with two of the finest studio cuts, we see how out of this morass came such an incredibly well-written and high-polished album.

I also really have come to enjoy the alternate "Apathy's Last Kiss". Definitely prefer the Still Becoming Apart version, but it's great to hear a more organic, live-ish version.

Oh, and the secret to really enjoying this disc? TURN IT UP

Anyone else revisiting this bonus disc lately? I don't really have much to say about it at the moment but while we wait for the deluxe Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness I was hoping to get some discussions going about the first three reissues so if anyone has any thoughts about this please share them.

Oh, "Moleasskiss" is pretty great.

I liked this one a lot but wish they'd included more b-sides/demos/rarities besides all the alt versions of songs.

I just love that BC is going for a 'narrative' or 'impressionistic' approach to curating these reissues, as opposed to a more encyclopedic or completist version. He has to please the die hard fans who only want to hear completely unheard stuff, while also presenting a good bonus disc for more casual fans of specific albums. (I think this is especially true on the Siamese Dream reissue, since a lot of non-fans still think SD is a great album)

So far so good but I'm not sure it's worth the price. But then I'm trying to become a luddite. Think about how many pounds of lentils you could buy instead of that mellon collie set. just saying.
