Billy doesn't pay me enough to do promos for the albums. I just buy the albums.

I've told my pals about it and shown them the live tunes, beyond that I'm probably not going to do anything.

My friends are still mad about Zeitgeist and Teargarden, so I'm afraid I'll be the only one listening to Oceania until I rebuild all that broken trust...

WIth all due respect I don't think it's the fans' job to promote this album or any other. That's up to the managers, coporate staff. I did start a thread about it on another message board, but the weight of the real promotion effort lies elsewhere.

Better Oceania popularity might result in more extravagant live shows. Think of it as an investment.

We could bombard specific radiostations. Me and some friends once got one of Billy's songs on our alternative radio that way.

"The current plan is to make it about the album. Meaning, we are having a lot of conversations, none of which are finalized, but essentially somewhere in the week-or-less period before the album is actually available for sale, we make it so everybody can hear the album, and they decided on their own whether or not they think it’s a worthy work. So, we’re not sending out copies for review. We’re not trying to sell the album off of one song. We believe that the album in totality will be significant enough that people will be motivated to want to own it…if you want the marketing campaign that is essentially it in a nut shell." -Billy Corgan

I still would have expected some promotion to the ' listening party' date.

Indeed. I would think with how over-saturated advertisements are now, there should be promos all over the place (name-dropping, album artwork, etc) on various sites leading up to the release. It seemed like there was more promotion for individual TbK tracks than there've been for Oceania. I would think this would also be the time for Corgan to do live in studio performances, release clips, have samples in videos (ala Garbage's new record), etc. There's a million different things that could be done or tried, and it's just kind of odd to see apart from the occasional print interview, nothing's really happening.

I agree with RA.
- two promo singles (ASFAS/WWMM & Astral Planes/A Stitch in Time)
- songs released on well-known websites (soundcloud and rollingstone.com(I think))
- TV performance on Leno
- fellowship released on a well-known TV show soundtrack
- video and short film for Owata

What's Oceania got? Fuck, it's been ready to release for months while they've shopped around for a label. The label can do all the leg work as far as I'm concerned..

mixing Appels + Oranjes i see... you are mentioning a lot of POST promotion. we are talking about pre-promotion

Nonetheless, TbK had shit for pre-promotion, and now it seems Oceania is following in it's footsteps. I'd like to see promotional stuff like live in studio or song commentary videos (ala the acoustic reissue vids). Where's the "interactive multimedia" whatsamajigger-stuff that he'd been talking about? It'd come in handy to use it for promotional purposes rather than (assuming it does happen at all) when the album's already out.

What is going through EMI even doing then? More physical production and more widespread dispersal of the physical releases? Is that it?

i'm not sure how much traction that'll get. I started a Teargarden one back before A Song for a Son was released, and it got little to no attention.

Well I've heard people on the radio asking for some SP songs and the radio presenter each time said a few words about a new album called Oceania coming soon (mainly that it was the first "regular" album in 5 years that sort of things), so my guess is that the buzz is starting to inflate.

I've talked about Oceania with my friends and included one of the official banner in my e-signature.
- Most of my geek friends hated me for doing this (those people only accept text in mails ;)/>)
- Most of my friends fond of music already knew about it but it's always a pleasure to feed the hype a little.
- Most of my colleagues didn't know about it though (but sadly that doesn't mean they are going to pay attention to it in the end).

What a threat!

Just kidding, I know some other artists in your list talk to the same public as SP.

Doing all the SP promoting i can on the yootoob: http://www.youtube.c...shingPumpkinsUK

I'm trying to work on doing something in the run up to the release of Oceania. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Coincidentally tonight's random audio show is less than 6 months old.

There's a fair few shows kicking around from the last tour that aren't on LMA. I could promote the band by upping any of the new tour shows as soon as i can get my grubby little hands on an audience rip. Time is running out, i'm open to ideas and suggestions.

The youtube channel is only 2 months old and it's picking up speed very fast. The best thing i can do to promote the album is by making it easier for people to spread the word with video links, wether it's personal video footage or audio recordings. That way people can spread the links and let the music do the talking.

Edit:

Just posted one of the new uploaded songs on my wall:

And someone who i've never even heard mention the band in the last 2 years who i met through the SP communities replied with "Best audio of an Oceania song I've heard yet. Got me pretty excited for the album. Nice one."

;)/>

I'd definitely appreciate rips of some of the stuff that's on the ZOMB to LMA... for example, I think both of the 2011 Italian shows are on the ZOMB and I'd rather listen to them on LMA and decide if I need to download them... I think there is supposedly a recording of the Brussels show, but that may not be circulating... there's a few more like that, mostly Euro shows.

Do you have the 2010/07/20 Revolution - Fort Lauderdale, FL show? I'd like to see that on LMA too.

My ratio is pretty healthy on zomb so i'll see what i can do, i've been saving it for more DVD rips but there's a guy i know who'll send any shows i'm missing on zomb (Zero seeders and such) for me plus a few more. I'll have a poke around and see what i can do.

The Fort Lauderdale show, i don't have it but i know where i can get hold of the video.

OK. Double-checked SPFC.

2011 shows on Zomb but not on LMA:
-Boston
-Newcastle
-Sheffield
-Assago (although is this some kind of compilation??)
-Padua

Vienna, Luxembourg, and second night of Lisbon also supposedly exist but I don't know if they're circulating. I think I was just confused about Brussels.

Also, I think the guy who taped the 2010 Fort Lauderdale show also taped Orlando... although I'm not sure if he ever upped that one.

OK. Double-checked SPFC.

2011 shows on Zomb but not on LMA:

I added Newcastle and Sheffield to the que about 20 minutes ago. I'll work on the rest over the next few days.

Regards to Orlando, i can't help you there at this time unfortunately, i don't know of any audio recordings from the Fort Lauderdale show. But when i get hold of the video i could always do an audio rip for LMA but i wouldn't expect to see anything for a few weeks though.

I will admit that i'm a little bit behind on the last couple of tours.

no worries, anything you can do is appreciated.

Re: Orlando, I think the same guy who taped Fort Lauderdale taped Orlando with the same equipment. Or he claimed he did on DIME. solacematt, I actually think I've seen him on these boards before...
