I think of Mellon Collie as the Mona Lisa and I think TBK is going to be Billy's Sistine Chapel. Any famous art works you think of when you think of S.P?

I'm going to agree with that. I think Teargarden is going to be his magnum opus. What i'm weirded out by is that I hated WWMM when first listened to it. I listened to it today while studying and I was like this is awesome. After I verbalized that I paused, conetemplated, and decreed that I did. I think Teargarden is going to be one of those albums you power through one sunday afternoon and I'm psyched.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. I note only that, depending on what year you are in school, you may be a working man/woman before you can power through TbK one Sunday afternoon.

If MCIS is NIN's downward Spiral, TBK will be Billy's The Fragile.

The Fragile>Downward Spiral in every imaginable way

The Fragile is fucking boring. TDS for the win. And I imagine TBK will be to SP as With Teeth/Ghosts was to NIN.

i dunno... if billy's still making music 20 years from now i'm guessing there'll be more 'magum opuses' to come. machina was a sprawling 30+ song album too, though Virgin disallowed it from being released in it's intended 2 disc format

Sistine Chapel, don't know about that, there is only two songs that have been released, it'll be interesting to see the album evolve like a piece of art does but it won't beat MCIS IMO. As someone said earlier Billys in it for the long run, he may not be producing his best work at the moment allthough I'm not saying it's bad, I like SFAS and WWMM and I'm sure there'll be a fair few excellent songs on TBK but I'm sure he'll produce his magnum opus a bit later down the line. He's shown sparks of awesomeness the past few years and I'm sure the metaphorical fire symbolizing his full blown creativity will come alive at some point down the line and he'll give us his Sistine Chapel eventually smile.gif.

All my opinion of course and The Downward Spiral is quite clearly NIN best album smile.gif.

The worst part thus far is that SFAS and WIDOW are made up of really cool parts. The idea is there. They don't sound uninspired but he blew it by not working with the initial ideas a litter better.

Piece of art this thing ain't gonna be.

Thanks guys for all your comments. Billy is back in the "creating exciting business" with Teargarden. Looking forward to song 3. I'm going to buy two copies of each E.P. and then two copies of the final box set.

Yes, and there will be a similar timeframe for completion at this rate, the Sistine Chapel took ten years in total for Michaelangelo to paint.

Why 2 of each?

The EP's are limited aswell that means that some poor bugger won't get a copy because you wanted two.

Incorrect. In a broader spectrum of music most people would consider SP under the umbrella of "Popular music"

Hush with this nonsense, by listening to 2 tracks that would not make the top 100 SP songs, to say something so over the top and ridiculous is deplorable.

Wise up man!

What's wrong with comparing two art forms in this case painting and music? Is one more relevant than the other? I've sat in the Sistine Chapel and the new Pumpkins album title is exactly what it's like to see the Sistine Chapel ceiling. It's an epic site.

Also, it's two songs in. So what? If all we'd heard were thirty seconds of the first song it would mean the same to me as if the 44th song had been released. With Billy you always know what to expect. Billy has a successful track record at making albums. He doesn't release songs unless they are worth hearing. I've never been surprised by an S.P. album to find it wasn't at least really great.

Does this mean you're implying that the Sistine Chapel is a massively inferior work to Mona Lisa? Because you'd have to be to try and draw that analogy. Otherwise you're just insane.

At least we can get news from this message board. This is why the concept of heaven doesn't work. You'd think being surrounded by supposed S.P. fans would be great but nobody could deal with the war aspect of responding to questions like this.

The Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa are both amazing. Mellon Collie is great and I doubt that TBK will be underwhelming. It's pretty simple. That's the whole point.
