1) white box with a number
2) white box w/o a number
any other copy is a bootleg and sounds like shit. this includes all those fancy colored copies you see floating around on eBay.

I want to buy one but I'm not sure which I should get. The numbered ones are said to be the best but they're so damned expensive. The unnumbered reissues are cheaper. Which should I get? Are there any other benefits to having the numbered ones vs. the unnumbered other than the fact that they're limited? I just want something that sounds great, if the unnumbered ones are just as good sound-wise then i would think that they would be my best bet, but is this the case? any help much appreciated. Thanks.
unnumbered weren't really reissues, they were pressed almost immediately after. and there is no loss in quality, unnumbered or numbered, they are both official releases by either Virgin or Hut. probably around 50,000 copies all told. not super limited obviously.
oh, and they havent made an official reissue press since 1996. so everything recent is all shitty bootlegs.
its a pretty rare album on vinyl
meh, 50K......

what happens when the bootleggers start using a white box too?
quality of the pieces and sleeves, and the pressing house engravings and matrix codes on the actual pieces.

adding a white box wont fool anyone. the matrix codes are the tell tale. also, the fact that the sleeves are pieces of shit.
then it'll be a bit harder to explain what's a bootleg and what's real.
if the sleeves are good and the colors aren't bleeding, then you would have to crack it open to check the engravings i would imagine.

but for now, the white box is the easiest way to check if a copy is a bootleg or not.

if you're ever in doubt about a copy of the mcis 3lp on ebay, you can always post a link here, and i'll have a look. i've seen the fake copy next to the real deal, so i know what to look at.

this makes it easy to spot bootlegs: the real thing has a white box, with or without number. the bootlegs don't have the white box.

Any thoughts if premium price will drop following the reissue; or if this will have opposite effect, cause more interest and put price up even more?

Sadly I haven't seen the prices of SD and Gish first press vinyls go up nor down. Perhaps slightly down but nothing very noticeable. But those are not numbered, etc.

Yeah they do, sometimes they seem scarce. But take your time, find a good one at a decent price. Use this forum to do any research to make sure it is authentic. Then buy it.

I'm telling you, be a bit patient my friend. They will come, being that expensive they do not sell right away. Per Buy It Now. When you see one, authenticate it through this website, then if you think you want it just bid higher than anyone else... Again, relax let them come to you. $300 is too much imo.

What do you think is reasonable?
I'm not in a rush, so I'll wait it out.
