I still think Pomp's "la's" are the worst. Widow's "Oh's" are close though.

Pomp is the one song on Z that has grown on me over time. I like Billy's vocals on that one quite a bit.

You can have them both if you sit through a Billy's "la la la" compilation. A series of cut together classic gag inducing Billy "la la la's". It omits the ending of Soma though, because those actually sound good.

in order of atrocity:

1. Tom Tom's shalalalaa's
2. Widows Oh oh ohs
3. Freak's lalalaa laa laa laaaaala's

compared to them I think Pomp's la la la's sound like a nightingale on a lily singing over the rippling of a mountain spring on a hot summer's eve.

whatever.

and please excuse me now i have to go watch some football, the European kind.

I would like to publicly acknowledge and assume blame for setting this thread off course. I would also like to take this time to apologize to anyone who has visited this thread in the last few days looking to actually discourse on Oceania. In summation: my bad.

This. And The Rose March's "lalalas" almost ruin that song for me.

I got the impression that some of you think that Ohh ohhh ohhs or lalallaasa are just embarassing. A lot of bands use these words! so what´s wrong about an ohhhh?

Tom Tom is a great song, the melody is grande. also rose march is a great song. I think what people annoys about the songs is the mix. widow is just not a great song in my eyes. nevertheless oceania has much more potential than zeitgeist, cause the 30 sec preview promises a lot!

The Oh's and la's are particularly embarrassing because Billy's voice doesn't fit them.

That and it was fine when it was used sparingly (Soma). It's that almost all songs since 2007 seem to have some kind of "oh", "Sha-la", "lalala" thing going on in them now and besides it just sounding really hokey and cheesy, it just comes across as lazy songwriting in some cases (see also the repeated "come on"s, and "feel it"s).

Every part with an Oh, Sha-la la and C'mon should be replaced with a guitar solo or should be omitted entirely shortening the song a little.

Save for FOL which I still love...

Yeah, and nothing after the la la la's is good enough to make it worth it.

actually i think lightening strikes would be good without the synths. the synths truly ruin it. it sounds like the theme song for the opening of an anime show like dragonball z haha. it also reminds me of flash gordon.

I certainly have nothing against Billy using lalalas in songs. That doesn't make a song bad. Tom Tom and P&C work well. The Rose March and Freak, not so much. I'll enjoy Oceania if it sounds interesting, or has a psychedelic sound he hasn't used before, or puts lalalas to good use. Not like The Rose Barf.

Lightning strikes is definitely one of the better TBK songs. Its really the only song aside from The Fellowship where the synth works at all. Don't really understand the dislike for it by some people. Its a good tune.

Instrumentally it makes me gag. The drums, guitars, synths, all of it just makes me feel sick listening to. The lead guitar at the end is nice, but everything else is just :sick:/>

also since im learning there are a small amount of us that like these things everyone hates, ill ask this, who eles here actually likes the synth on teargarden, owata is the only one id prefer without it but ide be lying if i said it sounded bad with it, hell call me crazy i think owata was the best song off of (studio)teargarden rivaled only by maybe song for a son.

right here synths don't bug me and i agree owata would be fine without it but synths don't really take away from it except maybe the beginning

I've always really enjoyed Teargarden, even when it was super hip to hate on it (which I think it still is). The synth in Fellowship works brilliantly. I thought Owata was a little overboard, but otherwise I enjoyed the new element the synth added to the Pumpkins' palette of sound. And it seems like Billy is learning to use it more with every song too. Excited to see what Oceania holds.

there was really nothing wrong with the synths. The songs weren't THAT great and they kept us waiting for as long as they did in between songs. As far as expectations, i think real fans were just expecting songs of a higher quality. The synths are just an obvious and superficial thing to attack but focusing on the very lame synths misses the bigger problem: the songs werent that good. A song for a son was great... tom tom was decent. Spangled, maybe, a stitch in time, sure... songs like astral planes and widow wake my mind have their moments, but overall, jeeze, the material was just pretty lame.

That being said, i'm VERY excited to hear oceania on tuesday when it streams...

even though i do enjoy teargarden and its synths alot i cant deny that oceania's synths destroy it and seem much more mature and.....beautiful i guess is the word im looking for.

also im sure this has been asked before but how does the i-tunes stream work? do i just go onto i tunes and look up oceania or do i need to pre order or something to hear it, if so then fuck that im buying it hard copied

Well, I went on itunes to see if they had anything streamingthat has yet to be released. They have an Usher album for free stream and I had the option to listen to it without pre-ordering it. I'm sure Oceania will be the same.

good, really its a stupid idea to stream only with pre orders, i mean for one streaming for free would bring in way more people.
