Milk It is one of their best tracks by far!

Quite excited for Oceania now. Can't be worse than the bad half of Teargarden (so far), surely!?

Bleach is much more raw but I wouldnt say better than nevermind and certainly not more influencial. I like and own all three Nirvana studio albums but I can't remember the last time I listened to any. That is what I will do this afternoon

Milk It is a poor Melvins rip off. In utero is full of pre-Nevermind songs that would have ended being B-sides if the bathtub accident didn't happen.

after reading KC describe a guitar riff for one of his songs as "like an abortion that just hit the floor", I really am just feeling that i dont need to know what he's referring to. also seeing a fetus in a persons drip bag and also dangling from a tree is just about one of the sickest things ive seen in my life.

Anyway I'm very much looking forward to Oceania.

Those are two very conflicting viewpoints, coming from the same person about the same song.

And I'm surprised anyone could be unimpressed with Heart-Shaped Box. It's a hauntingly powerful song with one of the greatest riffs ever written.

The music video is one of the greatest things ever committed to film.

It was Krist referring to the original Heart-Shaped Box solo (I believe), before Kurt went back and recorded the final one that's on the recording. It wasn't meant as an endearing description.

You sound like someone who would try to censor their own dreams.

Bathtub accident?

At some point in... 92 I think, Kurt and Courtney left their home for an extended period of time, and as a way of hiding his guitars/ notebooks/ demo tapes from possible intruders, Kurt hid them in the bathtub. Ironically, while no one broke into their house in their absence, the sewage backed up and flooded the tub, destroying most everything Kurt had stored in it- mostly new ideas he had then been working on for In Utero. Many believe that is why In Utero is comprised of a lot of tracks that date back to, and in some cases pre-date, Nevermind (Dumb, Rape Me, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter).

The bathtub sounds like a dumb place to hide things.

Not conflicting to me. The music part sounds like one long drone with intermittent loudness. Atmospheric yes but not stimulating. Sounds like a tortured soul. Death and helplessness. You cannot escape the idea of horriblenesSuccesses pain being expressed. Successful art but not something I enjoy hearing. It's very sad.

I'm not interested in invalidating it as an expression. It's just very sad to me and I don't enjoy it. It's like listening to someone being tortured and not being able to help them.

That other post should say " horribleness of the pain being expressed...".

So 'In Utero' is too sad for you? Yet you listen to The Smashing Pumpkins?

How ironically odd.

(by the way, Adore is sadder...)

They are very different. You dont have to tell me what adore sounds like.
Nirvana is like a person being stabbed repeatedly. SP is like shattered glass. It could be a whole other topic.

Add tourette's to that list. Kurt used to play it with Toby Vail back in 90.
Nirvana isn't so sad. It was actually a funny band.

Ok. Thanks. I didn't know about that. I knew some of the songs were from as early as 1990 but I didn't know why he used them

As for the new ways - hmm, doesn't strike me that SP will host the videos on their site.

I can't say I'm going in 2012 because there are no tour dates yet and I am only going to be able to go to one that is in my city. My life has been downgraded to very limited travel

billys statement could be read that they're looking at a cool new way to get the shows, like you would be able to as you leave the shows... like, even if you're not there. maybe.

either way, i'm sure the people who get them will put them online for those that weren't, so its awesome.

"i'm in one room cutting vocals for Oceania while band is rehearsing geek u.s.a."

This suggests to me that all or 95% of guitars for the album are done. A digital release before October 1st doesn't seem all that unlikely.

it's especially cool considering they'll probably be playing a huge chunk of Oceania before it's a released at these shows..

a soundboard quality recording of the material before you can buy the album sounds great to me

Well, I forgot that the tour will end before the album comes out. I was like "Why are they rehearsing for concerts if they've got an album to record?"

I think it would be wise. Especially if Oceania is as good as Billy says. The best thing would be to release a song like My Love Is Winter or Quasar as a single. Radio-friendly, but enough depth to capture the fans or former fans' attention. Songs most hardcores are familiar with, and that would surely appeal to others.

I personally think Quasar should be the single, if they release one. That is one hell of a song from that one clip we heard. And it closes the album out supposedly, so here's hoping they really beefed it up in studio (probably the only time I'll say that).

Also, from Nicole's Facebook:

"had a productive day at the studio. rehearsed and work out some background vocals for Chimera with Mikey."

:jackyl:/>

I loved their backing vocals on Lightning Strikes.

If they are going to really promote the album they need a single. A good single can bring any band back from the dead. Look what happened with Green Day, they were irrelevent when American Idiot came out and they got a second life out of it

If they do, it should be 1 month to 2 weeks before the release at maximum. Some like Lady Gaga have released singles 3 months before the release date - people forget easily and quickly.

I think that would be much wiser to have it released closer to the album release date or get 2 singles from the album to keep the excitement level flowing for the tours singles and release, seems unlikely to get 2 singles from it though, but it would be super cool
