Imagine hanging out on a cruise ship listening to the new album OCEANIA by The Smashing Pumpkins with the band! It could happen for you on June 12th aboard The Odyssey 2 at Chicago’s Navy Pier where the band will be having a record release party! You can imagine it – now tell us why YOU should be put on the VIP guest list and you might make it a reality. 15 winners plus their chosen guests will join the party!

HOW IT WORKS

Post a short essay on your Facebook wall telling us why you should be there! Tag The Smashing Pumpkins so we are sure to see it**. Let your Facebook and Twitter friends know the more “likes” and comments your post has, the better for you! The contest starts today (6/7) at noon central and runs through Saturday 6/9 at midnight central. Contest winners will be announced on Facebook & Twitter Monday morning at 10am central!

*To tag the Smashing Pumpkins on Facebook you must “like” their facebook page, then simply type an @ followed by smashingpumpkins and the link will show up in blue.
*All you win if you win is an invite. The 15 winners can each bring a guest so make it count!

that is going to be a messy way to judge a contest. just think- every time SP post a status update asking people to name their favourite songs or personal stories, there are thousands of responses. imagine how many there will be when you actually offer those people a chance to win something. the judges are not going to sift through hundreds of essays to find the best ones, this is just another publicity stunt. people should post their essays in one convenient place, like a special wall on SP.com. likes and retweets are superficial indicators of a message's quality.

Why I should get to go on the Oceania cruise with The Smashing Pumpkins :

I have loved the pumpkins music ever since I traveled back in time from the year 2212. In the future, Oceania has become the national anthem of planet Earth. As I was still growing in my Cytron 4000 Cloning Tube, The Sacred and Profane Priests of Zero, played the music of the Pumpkins while I slept. Nearly all the known sentient species in the Milky Way Galaxy are Smashing Pumpkins fans... And many in the Pegasus Galaxy too!

In the year 2199, while listening to Pastichio Medley backwards, all life in the universe learned to evolve to exist as pure energy . However, disaster struck in the year 2209 when terrorists deleted all the Pumpkins songs from the iDatabase, replacing them with songs from Pavement and two songs from Meatloaf. I was sent back in time to recover the music that will someday save humanity! The fate of two galaxies rests in the balance!

That is why you should pick me to attend the Oceania listening party cruise! ... well, that and I love Navy Pier.
