I'm surprised Jesus Is The Sun is getting so much play here. I first heard that song with, or around the time of, the reissues. The lyrics are kind of lame, but otherwise it sounds like classic Pumpkins, with some cool twists and turns.

Off the top of my head, and *trying* to be even-handed across eras... Also avoided naming stuff from the early early days because there's just too many easy targets.

1. I'm Doing the Best I Can - Zzzzzzzz. There's just nothing good about it, easily deserving of the top spot. Sounds like he's making it up as he goes along.
2. Superchrist - that one chord... on and on and on.... fuck off. Also the worst drum sound I've yet heard out of Jimmy (performance is great, just bizarre sound and mix)
3. Widow Wake My Mind - song is blah, can't hear it without picturing that giant creepy Mormon family singing the chorus now, a real low point in Pumpkins history.
4. For God and Country - not the worst song, but that stupid casio beat drives it into shitville
5. The Trip - It's time to take a trip? How about I hit "skip" instead.
6. Because You Are - I don't need to explain myself on this one do I?
7. White Spyder - Sounds like it's being squeezed out of a robot's ass. Perhaps I will like it when it gets a proper re-mix for the reissue.
8. Glass Theme - can't stand it for similar reasons, but I still dislike even the cleaner version on FAEOMM... just a bunch of brain-dead pummeling.
9. Jesus Needs a Hit - baffling chords and poor melody, in my estimation.
10. Slunk - It truly sucks dick like a charm.
11. Lightning Strikes - I don't think this was a bad song at heart, but the mix is incredibly limp and the wholesale repetition of that second verse just bothers the SHIT out of me in a way that no other pumpkins song does. Take your copy/paste elsewhere, dawg.

It's hardly fair to count songs he played live once or twice... I intentionally left them out.

If you're gonna trash a song for a bad drum sound, it's definitely not this one. I think the drumming sounds good both in terms of performance and quality. You wanna hear a shitty drum tone? Listen to the sacred + profane. That song is hard to lisen to sometimes.

Meh, I don't see why not. They hold as much weight as anything else in my Pumpkins library.

Sacred and Profane drums sound synthetic and strange, yes, but Superchrist sounds like he's using a plastic trash can lid for a snare. All this is a matter of preference anyhow.

The reason is because a lot of those are 'songs in progress'... It's hardly fair to compare them to other studio stuff.

Just making sure you are not confused .... Are you referring to the toms (i.e. the solo at 1:38)? Toms are meant to sound like that (and they sound excellent to my ears :D/>)

No, I know what toms are, thank you very much. I mean the snare which for some reason sounds so much more dark and dull than just about anything I've heard Jimmy play on. Listen to the rolls around 4:43, and then listen to the beginning of Cherub Rock or something. Again, the playing is fantastic, it's not a knock against Jimbo, I just happen to hate the drum sound they used with a fiery passion.

I DON'T compare them to studio stuff. They're bad on their own criteria. There are other things that only got played once or twice before being discarded that I think are great. Psalm 131 is fantastic, for example.

Yeah, I see what you mean. They sound a bit flat but there's nothing offensive about them, imo. I'm glad you know what Toms are lol. I felt weird pointing out something so obvious, but some of the stuff people post on this board makes me facepalm x 10.

Was there something unclear about my post? Or are you just trying to be a dick (as usual) and pick apart someone elses taste in music to give yourself a feeling of superiority (as usual). Not that I need to clarify anything to you but I like owata (especially live), widow wake my mind, death from above, united states (especially the drums on that song), love and we only come out at night. None are my favorites but I do like them. The others you mentioned I'm lukewarm about. The ones I said I dislike are ones I dislike. Is that good enough for you professor?

Seriously. I dont make fun of you like the other people around here. Don't start your bullshit with me

1: Silverfuck (This track I don't hate...but it's the only thing keeping SD absolute perfection for me...so it's numero uno.)
2: F.O.L. (Catchy, but not memorable in a good way)
3: Winterlong
4: Sparrow
5: Starz (I liked it at first...)
6: G.L.O.W.
7: Window Wake My Mind (Mainly because I was so impressed with Song For Son...then this one came along...)
8: Astral Planes (Would have really liked it if it wasn't so repetitive)
9: Apples + Oranges
10: The Bells (I want to like this one for some reason)
11: (Insert a holiday song here)

Hmm these were the main ones to come to my head at least.

:shocked:/> I'm especially shocked by those last three. Oh well, different strokes for different folks and all.

For me:

11. Owata (the older version is okay... not so much as fan of the Teargarden version)
10. FOL
9. That's the Way (My Love Is)
8. If There is a God
7. Astral Planes
6. Spangled
5. The Bells
4. Jesus is the Sun
3. Freak
2. Lightning Strikes

1. Widow Wake My Mind (God, I despise this song. It's said that 154,889 people died the day this song was released. I don't think that was a coincidence.)
what in the fuck, also how in the hell is freak, lightning strikes, JETS and spangled even remotely worse than astral planes, i dont care if you think they good or bad but saying any of those is worse than astral is complete and total bullshit

Every list so far has a few songs I really like.

What's wrong with Crying Tree? it's weird, I know. But it's unique and unlike anything else.

I don't like Try, Try, Try at all nor the video. Owata's video is worse, but the song's better.

Mu other least faves have been listed.

Owata isn't better than Try.

Owata is a brutally boring song. There's no dissonance. Try actually has something of melodic interest and is uniquely Corgan/Pumpkins.

i truly loathe the try, try, try video, but it's one of my favorite SP songs. i am surprised how many people are indifferent or negative about it.

Starla
mouths of babes
Once upon a time
Marquis in spades
Doomsday Clock
Pissant

The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete and Once Upon A Time are in my top five favorite Pumpkins songs. And I really like Annie Dog. Adore 4evr, yo.

Yet the song you dislike the most is an adore outtake.

I've never understood the hate for Scorched Earth. Sure, it can be a bit harsh, and the lyrics may be a bit :what:/> in some places, but it's still a rockin' song with a ton of conviction. That's a lot more than I can say about the majority of SP tracks from the last 5 years.

Did I say Adore Outtakes 4evr? The only 4 I evr 4 is Adore (the album). I'm not crazy about Satelites or Chewing Gun either, if you care to know. :)/>

These types of threads would be infinitely more interesting if people explained their reasons for liking or disliking and such.

If you are like SOME people (:lol:/>), then you don't need a reason. You just dislike things. Profusely.

This is going to be good.

Superchrist
Quasar
Owata
Because You Are
Tales Of A Scorched Earth
Blue Skies Bring Tears (electric)
FOL
Come On, Lets Go
Bring The Light
American Gothic
Sacred and Profane

For chadbro.

Superchrist - plays out like Jimmy doing a drum demo over a hackneyed Silverfuck (a song I already don't much care for). It's punishing and lacks art. It's so beneath them I can't believe it. To paraphrase BC, "Jimmy and I in a room is still better than 90 [was it 99?] percent of music". That type of Greek tragedy worthy arrogance leads to complete and utter fucking garbage like Superchrist.

Quasar - same as Superchrist except without Jimmy. Oh it's the rebirth of Siamese Dream? There's as much possibility of that being true as you growing new ears and realizing what a turd you were for ever uttering this stinkers name in the same breath as that masterpiece.

Owata - I got into the Pumpkins via Machina, but Mellon Collie was the work that really won me over. There is a certain dissonance to Corgan's melody and note choices that really appealed to me, and, like his voice, let him stand apart as unique. Owata is so on the nose melodically I can barely stay awake even thinking back to it. The second half of the chorus is ever so slightly redeeming, but it's such a stinker on a whole I can't abide.

Because You Are - the other side of Owata, so grossly dissonant that it sounds abrasive as opposed to cool.

Tales Of A Scorched Earth - again, too abrasive sounding as a recording. It gives me a headache and I can sit through Minor Threat and Bad Brains.

Blue Skies Electric - goofy.

FOL - so boring. It's not horrible, it's just... boring. Some of the melody ideas are kind of cool actually, but it's just so ordinary sounding.

Come On Lets Go - same.

Bring The Light - same.

American Gothic - same.

Sacred And Profane - another boring song. I want to like it, but it doesn't go anywhere. After you've heard the first minute you've pretty much heard the whole song.

Good point.

In no particular order, these can sod off:

1. Freak: I just find it really average. The tune, the lyrics, the production... It just seems like a half-arsed effort to me.

2. The Rose March: Some of Billy's worst vocals, and a weak, wishy washy song. Really don't like it.

3. Astral Planes: Sounds like an incomplete demo to me. A few good ideas and sounds but awkwardly executed. And bad lyrics.

4. Said Sadly: Dull. Nothing special.

5. Perfect: Same really, average effort especially given the superb sounds and melodies of that album.

6. Stellar: Could've been good. Some good guitar sounds but clumsy, crashing sound overall and awful lyrics. Sounds incomplete to me.

7. Innosense: Forgettable. Not much else to say.

8. Zeitgeist: Sounds like he threw it together in minutes. Nothing of any real interest or charm, complete throwaway and very forgettable.

9. FOL: The muttering "come on and feel our love" delivery just ruins what could've been turned into a great rock song. And bad production.

10. Believe: Same as Zeitgeist (the song).

11. Because You Are: I don't particularly dislike this that much, but I find it average in comparison to everything else I could think of. There are obviously a few others that get the same description from me, but I could at least think of some redeeming feature for those tracks.
