So 2012 brought the return of this song live. Thoughts? Are you glad it's back? Do you like the performances of it by the new band? Mikes drumming? Billys voice?

I'm glad he brought it back. It doesn't have the same energy vocally, but it's better than never getting to see it played live for those of us who aren't 40 or 50. Haha. It's gaining momentum though. It gets more of that old energy back every performance imo.

That is true, there is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge portion of songs that i'll likely never hear since I wasn't even alive for Gish and SD and Mellon Collie was released a week and a bit after I was born :(/>

I'm not a big fan of XYU. So many other songs I would rather hear

I love this version of the band and everything they have done live ever since their first show at the viper room in 2010. This is the first time I have been disappointed, but no surprise there. XYU is not a song billy can do anymore. Such is life. However, they more than make up for it with the 'Space Oddity' cover. I love it.

ehh im not a fan of these new performances, billy just doesnt scream right anymore. Like its a badass scream but it happens way to fast and doesnt have the same rage behind it that made XYU so great in the first place.

Very much a staple of the old band that should have been left alone. Billy laying on the ground at the end of the song at Rock in Rio was humiliating.

It was ok until he tried to stand up again.

have to agree that it's not the same with the new band. the new lineup is much more suited for space and texture than these organic ragers from the old days. mind boggling why they don't dwell more on Adore and the trippier bits of MCIS.

That said, they nailed "Geek USA" in the '11 tour imo.

WhOooooaaa there! I'm 31 and I saw them perform XYU when I was 15 years old. 40 or 50 is a bit OTT! :p/>

Yeah, the slower metal jams would be nice.
Or how about Aeroplane Flies High?

Is it a problem that I'm wanting to put the buttrock emoticon in every single one of my posts now?

I happen to absolutely love this version of XYU. The way he sings certain sections and growls still gives me chills like it did in 1996. They closed with this at the metro recently and it got the crowd so pumped. I can not explain how cool it was to be right up front and jumping around and singing along with the fans with billy freaking out 15 feet in front of me. I have a feeling that the people who say he can't pull this off anymore havent actually seen it in person and experienced it the way it should be experienced. Go see my video in the metro benefit show thread.. That's what I'm talking about

Holy fuck, this is way better than the one performed in Lisbon, and his voice sounds way better and there's so much more energy in it :o/>

It's light years better than what happened to Bodies a while back. I was pleasantly surprised. I would enjoy it live buti don't see myself actively listening to live recordings of it on my iPod.

I'm glad they're playing some older songs again, though "XYU"'s not really my favorite Mellon Collie-era rocker. It'd be nice if they'd revive "Where Boys Fear to Tread" or "Jellybelly," or even "Tales of a Scorched Earth," but obviously Billy's the one calling the shots, not me. :p/>
