Why not? They released Honeyspider and Not Worth Asking as a bonus 7" with PI. Also, La Dolly Vita is technically pre-Gish. The PI&F tape also had pre-Gish material on it...
What exactly is PI? The best of all the non-album tracks up until 1994 (in the eyes of Corgan anyways). That doesn't automatically exclude the pre-Gish stuff, but it does say much about what Corgan thought about it all as of 1994. I would probably feel the same.

The woman in charge of it (Laura, I think her name is) said they're mulling around different things to potentially do, which might include limited run physical releases of shows and possibly some jewelry, or something to that effect. She also has said they would use a Kickstarter-like program to gauge demand before manufacturing them. Beyond that, nothing else has been said.

wasn't that from an interview from months ago? or am i confusing this with something else?
also, i don't consider that news. it's meaningless.
it's not too late yet, but they should get moving, or they'll lose all the speed they collected during those first weeks.
just release something. hell, even another free track could keep things going for a bit longer, if they really need time.
fucking hell, all this thinking. i don't get it. isn't that what the last guy used to do? weekly emails from the archives? long discussions about the one and only holy distribution model for the sp archives' content? and then, BLOP!, the pudding collapsed. jesus fucking christ.

It could very well be from a while ago. I honestly don't remember. It didn't really say anything so I didn't really put much behind remembering it.

you know you could look at the SPRC record club, the archives and, TBK singles and see a pattern of inconsistency. Bad business!

But you do have to be a writer by trade so people know you can write. No one's going to hire a random guy off the street who writes great blog posts.

Why not? Why does it matter? Do people really care that the man they chose to write the notes is a writer/critic for Rolling Stone? If the person writes well and can beautifully and articulately convey the importance of the music and the band (or whatever it is that Billy is looking for) then I do not see what the problem is. I know a number of people who write beautifully, in their spare time or as a hobby, yet it is not their established profession. There are many reasons why people shy away from the art of writing as a profession and it has little to do with a lack of talent. Being a writer by trade does not make one an "expert" or more knowledgeable in the trade.
His writing is not terrible. He is a critic and he obviously has knowledge of music and its history. However, I think it would have been interesting to see what someone would have written who had a close connection to the band and their music. Any of those people I listed could very well be good writers. I do not know. It was just an idea that I threw out there.
Nevertheless, back on topic. I liked what Bob did for the first two discs and I was hoping he would remaster the other discs as well. I hope Howie also does a great job. I did not like Billy's liner notes when I first read them (I have warmed up to them, yet I much prefer the webisodes) but I hope he provides some insights into each song like he did on the first two remasters. I am looking forward to it. Now, if only we could get a release date.

Indeed. The producer is present throughout the actual recording of the album, sometimes doubling as the engineer (the person physically recording the material), while the mastering person is given the final recordings (already mixed) and polishes it up (ie: makes sure all the volume levels are consistent, etc).
