Excuse my ignorance as this may have been mentioned in the previous 90 odd pages (not that I have seen) but I was wondering if there was any info on varying versions of Oceania. Pre-orders are up around the show and I was wondering whether to order one or wait for the possible 'deluxe version'.

Cheers

I got an email from netphoria to preorder from them, but I already ordered through amazon.com. Why hasn't the site put up a preorder yet? if this is supposed to be the official site how in the hell does netphoria and amazon have a preorder up before this place? :scatch:/>

I've been wondering lately if I will pre-order mine on SPRC as well...
I mean if we put the whole "reissue-mess up" then "flexi-disc-success" apart, there are still some aspects that make me hesitate.
The biggest one being the shipping cost.
I mean I'd rather buy directly to the band, but what if the shipping fare is the price of an extra CD/vinyl? :scatch:/> Tough question.

Yeah shipping cost plus the risk of a toll fine makes buying directly from the band prohibitavely expensive. If they could somehow offer to ship from a european destination I would order from sp.com everytime.

I agree. Just got my preorder for the new mewithoutyou cd in the mail today. It was a day early and they used 11spot.

I need to figure out where I will listen to this album for the first time. Usually sp songs (that are great) remind me of where I was the first time I reeeally "listened" to them. It seems like a good opportunity to somewhat control what I might be thinking of when I hear these songs for the rest of my life - assuming they are actually good. Zeitgeist/TBK didn't do this for me.

Listen to it in an isolated area during a sunset. At least, that's what I always do.

The Siamese/Gish reissues went up on the official site about a month and half in advance, if I remember correctly? So that would be...now-ish :)/> And we've heard a few times that the website will be flipped in the near future (skeptical but hopeful?)

And I think it's been expressed that Topspin will NOT be involved in the future distibutions.

And every press release has EXPLICITLY said that Oceania is a part of Teargarden. I don't know why this is even being argued. Billy will do whatever he wants at the end of the day, thank God.

No, the gift was to give faith to everyone who bought the reissues to come back and buy directly through the band through Topspin again.

Late last fall you pre-ordered a physical product of either Gish or Siamese Dream from us that did not arrive in a timely manner. We apologize again and want you to know we have changed distributors and there should never be a delay such as this again.

I don't think TopSpin is the distributor. Bandmerch actually distributed the reissues, topspin just processed the orders.

I know what you mean. In all actuality, I sat on a computer and listened to Zeitgeist & TbK for the first time. However, those records never gave me any reason to ever want to 'set the setting & sink in', so to speak. I heard 5 of the 6 revealed Oceania songs live, and was blown away. Everything surrounding this record seems just...right for once. I hope I'm not wrong. Either way, I'll be playing this one on the stereo, rather than on shit laptop speakers. Maybe on a vinyl player, seeing as I just found my mother's practically unused one in my storage. :D/>

Great point. First time I listened to 'Freak' I was on holidays lying on a beach in Spain and even though I don't think its a great song it will always bring back a nice memory to me. I have resisted listening to any of the Oceania live material so I don't know what to expect just cant wait to hear the finished product.

I'm still wondering what the big roll-out on the album will be. I thought the whole point of Billy's SXSW thing was that this was going to revolutionize how people consume albums.

I hope not. I don't want to tempted by those crappy, 30 seconds, low quality taints. But Amazon almost always has samples for major releases prior to their actual release so I wouldn't be surprised if they show up soon.

As far as the whole new way to consume an album thing, it was pretty much overblown at the time and wasn't exactly the big deal we made it out to be. The current "speculation" is that it's going to be in the form of an audio/visual component, possibly an album long music video type experience to watch via stream prior to the actual release to ensure people listen to Oceania from beginning to end, at least on the first go round. But again that is just speculation based on a few off the cuff comments and some now removed tweets from some people involved in some type of SP video/film.

I don't think this are the studio snippets. To me, they sound really similar to the soundboard recordings. Also it doesn't help that they just cut the parts when Billy is about to sing.

If they're not live, the studio tracks are an exact replica or vice versa.

That makes sense, but couldn't it have just as easily been an apology to the fans? I believe I heard somewhere on the board (via Simon maybe?) that Topspin was not the distributor for the next release. Of course, if it is after all, I'm still not that bent out of shape.

Never mind, just saw gyang's post. Cool

No news here, but Billy has talked to "Times of Oman":

http://www.timesofom...il.aspx?fid=393

@20th anniversary of The Smashing Pumpkins' first album:

"It certainly feels like more than 10,- the 45-year-old singer says, "but it doesn't feel like 20. It certainly seems to have gone by faster than I would have guessed.

"You know, I've got a drummer in my band now who's 21 years old, "Corgan adds, referring to Mike Byrne, "and we were sitting in the studio the other day, listening to something, and I said, 'That was done 22 years ago.' And he looked at me and I realised, '(Heck), that's older than you'.

@Oceania and the reissue program
"Before I started this process, I would've thought, 'Yeah, this is going to be a little uncomfortable, because I'm trying to make this new point at the same time that I'm trying to make an old point',- Corgan admits, speaking by telephone from his home in Chicago. "But it's actually been the opposite experience. I've found that it's brought a sort of peace to me, because it reminds me of my journey.

"It's like I look at an old photo and I don't go 'Ugh',- he explains. "I look at the old photo and go, 'That's good I did that. That's good I went there. That's good I took those chances, and I can feel compassion for when I did something stupid or said something stupid because I believed in something.-

@Old Pumpkins x New Pumpkins

"It's a very shockingly mature and kind group of people,- the singer says. "Everyone's very respectful of each other. It's the only band I've ever been in where there's no backbiting, where there's no talking (garbage) when the other person's out of the room or where this person doesn't like that person. It's the first time I've ever been in a band where there's equal respect. I've never experienced that.-

"I would say that we're probably more of a studio band now than a rehearsal band,- Corgan says. "The old band was more rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, and you'd hammer out a vision and then go into the studio. I think this band benefits a little more from the intellectual process of making a record. Now it's like, 'OK, we've got these songs,' and we go in and start throwing stuff at the wall in the studio and everybody sorof puts their two cents into where it's going, and I think that's successful.

"I think on Oceania people will hear the contribution of this band and why I've stuck with this band.-"

Anyone else find it funny we are basically a month away from release, and not only do they not even have the release date posted on the main splash page, but also no link whatsoever to any kind of info in regards to the record or tracklisting? Little things, I know, as this information is out there and accessible, but I just find it so puzzling to wrap my head around.

If anyone is actually getting paid as an SP web admin, they honestly need to be massacred.
