why compare them to old incarnations just because "since, you know, it's still called The Smashing Pumpkins."? that's just being an asshole.

It's "being an asshole" to compare the output of one band? Why? Because one end of the spectrum doesn't turn out favorably when compared? You wouldn't being saying that if the new stuff was better than the old stuff.

I used to be a huge fan of the pumpkins... I used to be obsessive... and NOW when I go into their website, I just feel really angry and disappointed... I mean what the HELL happened to them? To start off, they look completely and totally boring... Its probably the worst picture for a band i've ever seen... completely cheesy and boring... and I used to love billy and thought he was an amazing songwriter, but now he just irritates me... I know this isn't probably the place to post this... but I think I should just because I've been a fan for over 10 years, and the new music sucks, and the new image sucks, and the new bandmembers suck... and Billy lies all the time... when he started Teargarden he more or less gave us the info on how he would be releasing his music, and none of it is true!! He said he would release a song every so often which he STOPPED doing.. he said it would be FREE.. which is also a lie... Oceania is an album within an album? The album being Teagarden by Kaleidyscope.. he's releasing it with a record company... meaning it will cost $$$.... but anyway... i just wanted to say... I can't stand the band photo on their website it is seriously the worst thing I have ever seen.. what the hell happened to you Billy???????? All of you people who think there isn't good music around.. I recently came across a band who has interesting things.. much more interesting than the Smashing Pumpkins...

www.soundcloud.com/yusatico

if you don't like that more than what the pumpkins are doing now... I will personally donate money so the band can have another photoshoot... PLEASE BILLYYYY... QUIT!!!

I think this topic would had been better if you got a closeup of yourself and video taped this rant so we could watch it on youtube.

not that its not good. but I'd like to hear a bit more emotion in how this website photo perturbs you.

obviously its a great photo.

Unfortunately I got into the Pumpkins early 2000. As much as the old members were integral to the past, Billy is the foundation. Granted everyone has an opinion on Billy, I really enjoy what Jeff brings to the table. For me, I just let the music be what it is and hope that Billy continues to put out music. If calling the band "the Smashing Pumpkins" gives him the freedom to play the previous repertoire then so be it.

I'd have to agree the pic isn't great. Something about it is off... But the new website is a million times better.

that "band" from your hometown sucks btw. they actually suck BAD. what, does the drummer use empty oatmeal cans as drums? he sucks, and the vocals didn't even work back in the 80's punk scene (where they were stolen from). get a clue...oh, and keep defending yourself on this topic you started. maybe it will go away someday, but not likely.

i'm gonna go and listen to your "hometown" band YUSATICO and contemplate the best way to murder you in your sleep tonight...(see their music makes me wanna murder anyone who would actually promote it on THIS site at the same time while bashing SP).

Why? smashbtws says exactly what Billy says all the time. He and Smashing Pumpkins are not the same than before. They changed. smashbtws and Smashing Pumpkins just not evolved in the same direction. Nothing bad in that. If he/she prefers other band, other picture, it's his choice.

Probably, he/she liked so much the Pumpkins, needed to vent the emotion going with the separation. It's just natural.

I wish you great discoveries where you go.

If anyone has seen the Pete Townshend interview clips in "If All Goes Wrong," he talks about how a lot of fans don't want their favourite artists to change, and it seems very apparent that's the case here. But the truth of the matter is that Billy's going to move along and do his thing regardless if fans can accept it or not. No secret or any type of revelation in that.

yeah,it's his life to do whatever he wants to do with it.but, this thread is horrible and cruel.i would of removed it entirely if i were the mod or admin.it comes across more so as a personal attack on billy, not just someone who's dislikes the new band and their music.

Nothing better to solidify a family than to attack one of its member!!! Between us we may allow us to say Billy is lacking emotion, this song is awful, make commentaries on his weight, on his personal choices but when it is said by someone else, woah...

It is just mirroring of what it looks like when we do that ourselves.

Response to saintrenee.

I see your point, but it's better to have a debate than to remove it. That sends the message that there's no room for debate and I don't think this is one of those types of places. Plus, it's not the first personal attack on Billy here. Regular posters chimed in and pretty much sent the troll packing, which is a form of admin itself without any mod or admin using delete powers.

I would say it doesn't add a positive input. It doesn't give something more to bring a negative commentary. If we don't like something and say nothing about it but say something about things we like, the negative will be felt all the same being not spoken. The negative is there in the absence so to speak, without the cruelty that you speak Renee.

oh, he was being cruel.if the guy doesn't care for the new music that's his personal preference but the personal attack on billy now and the band members was nothing more than cruel intentions.

In this picture on the website, I like what it suggests me about the band. They are placed by their age, aren't they? Adding a perspective of time in their music and also in the Pumpkin's history. I like a lot this idea of continuity. And also I like a lot their clothes. It is like they are individuals in a band. It is clearly not set up in a fashion way. It brings the importance of everyone in the band and for me, it is a great way to evolve as a band. We can suppose this kind of way to see the band is included in the music too. It brings also the natural in their music. No distance between who they inside and who they are publicaly. Beyond the music, there is the way the music is done counting the most.

besides the fact that only those who have made it to the top know if it is or not, there's plenty of lonely people in the world that haven't made it to the top .
i think to have the ability to fly anywhere in the world, and to do so on a private jet, even to own or visit a remote island is
not something i would consider being lonely.
Not to mention that he has a woman in his life that he loves and can experience these things together with as well. What's so lonely about that?

Well said.

To expand on this, showcasing the members in an individualistic way lends itself to how they each bring their own influence and style to the band.

Don't get me wrong I love avant garde costumed Zero in all his glory, but I also like the stripped back, 4-piece jamming alter ego of SP

Ive never thought the Pumpkins were much of an image band, they were always a bit nerdy in their photos...... but thats SP. Billy knows hes a bit nerdy, but he plays guitar like a boss and screams like a viking warrior when he chooses to..... that is why he rocks.

I'm sorry but the problem isn't The Smashing Pumpkins or Billy, it's you. I remember hearing all this kind of stuff when Adore came and again when Machina came out. The Pumpkins have always been a very progressive band, they never stand still. Very much like Neil Young, Billy is always pushing things forward and just like Neil Young, it doesn't always work but they never get hung up on it and they never EVER look back.

if you want Pumpkins circa 1995 fine, the music is still there, the YouTube video are still there, go live in the 90's.

I actually think Billy has written some great stuff since Machina, some really great stuff. Some of the song that were written on the Zeitgeist tour were great and songs like Neverlost are up there with some of The Pumpkins very best.

I say buy Oceania, listen to Oceania and I mean really listen, a lot. Then judge. If you still feel no emotional correct to this band, to this music then I think you should just move on....
