Yeah I wondered about the USB thing too. From others that I have talked to, they suggest that it could be used to store the lossless files if they don't have a lot of space on their computer for them and they don't have portable harddrives.

But for me personally, direct download makes more sense.

Yes. Although, I get that there could be some costs to even setting it up/figuring out what to put on the kickstarter. But the band wouldn't have to go and make product until the kickstarter "made."

The advantage to the USBs, as I see it, is primarily for the band. It may end up being cheaper and simpler for the band to burn everything to USB and ship it than it is for them to buy/manage the bandwidth and checkout process for all the downloads. Now, if they already have a partnership with Topspin for the downloads, then no, a USB wouldn't seem necessary.

I personally would prefer a download, but if it was better for the band I would buy a USB. I guess I can see why someone would like a USB if they just plain like physical products, but they would be seemingly hard to display.

You obviously aren't up on modern things. A thumb drive is a great looking way to get music. I said I would pay most for live shows on USB drives and I think most people did too. You will love it when you get yours. The best thing is when you download a file it is on your computer, I can take a USB to my friends house.

I have a USB drive. I can copy downloaded files to it. I also have CD-RWs which work just as well. Why do we need Billy to provide us with the hardware? They cost very little, and you'll be able to get a much higher capacity drive than one which will probably only be big enough to fit a single show/release on. Also, how many of the damn things do you want cluttering up the place?

selling a usb drive is still selling digital files. but wrapped more expensively. at the same time, one of the benefits of digital files - you don't have to mail them, they can be downloaded immediately - is lost.

you're selling music, not usb drives. i already own all the usb drives i need.

There's a lot of interest it seems in those songs, but it might be preemptive at this point seeing as we have a Mellon Collie AND a The Aeroplane Flies High reissue coming out this year. Im sure the fan base is bound to get a lot of that in there.

I keep my commemorative USB drives in special USB drive cases. And yes, I bring them out everytime I want to listen to music.
