Slim. The lines at Third Man wrap overlap the block and the guys in front hire homeless dudes to stand in line for them and purchase one of the rare records so they can sell them on eBay for a hugely inflated price. It's ridiculous.

he's probably talking about teargarden demoes. i mean, he took my love is winter, panopticon and quasar from the teargarden sessions.

I think you're right about 'My Love Is Winter' and 'Quasar', but is 'Panopticon' also from Teargarden sessions?

title was on the leaked whiteboard back from 2009.

uh hi that's 3...so share the other 37 or so

i'm not saying he didn't write more songs for the oceania demos, but we know how many songs he was trying out from 2009 onwards, the spirits in the sky stuff, the backwards clock society stuff, and the "A material" that he didn't need to try out.

It's possible, but there's no hint to even make the assumption of that.

The only song on there I could see being a re-titleing is "How I've Loved You" into "Spangled".

Yeah, but 'Quasar' was performed live with 'Lightning Strikes' (Zen Baby), so it was from that period of time. Same thing with 'My Love Is Winter'.

Is that 31 songs listed? Could have been the majority of TGBK. Say a song every couple of weeks, maybe a month, starting back in 09. Shit brah. Billy dun screwed the pooch on this one. Sure it would have been a maligned disaster but it would have stood apart as something bizarre in a career of oddities. Something to be appreciated in 10 yrs Machina 1/2 style.

Billy Corgan - Teargarden. An ambitious 44 song project detailing the journey to get back on his feet. Something to remind everyone he's the same dude who made Mellon Collie. He doesn't NEED the Smashing Pumpkins. "Check out this ambitious solo bro. He's got some chutzpa." they'd say. "this has its fair share of stinkers, but with over half of TGBK being solid to good, Corgan has made his definitive solo statement".

What could have been.

sorry, my mistake. i had to go back and do some searching, because I know Panopticon was announced before the tracklisting was released in september (or whenever Billy did it). here's a pic of it for the soundcheck for a concert back in 2010.

Yeah, the original source for the title "Panopticon" was the setlist for public soundcheck on the Charleston, SC show on the 2010 tour. Someone got a setlist for the soundcheck and it listed "Panopticon," but the song supposedly wasn't actually played at that Charleston show.

We don't have all the setlists for the public soundchecks on that tour, so it's possible, but not confirmed, that they played "Panopticon" on that 2010 tour.

correct. i don't believe it was played that day, and I certainly didn't hear it at the grand rapids show but my original point was that there are songs that were at least conceived before his stint in scottsdale (?) where he demoed and wrote most of the new Oceania stuff that ended up on Oceania. It's certainly not the first time he's done this (as Owata and SfaS were both 20th tour cuts that made it onto TbK) but it shows that the statement he made that there are 30 or so demos or however he put it, could potentially include Teargarden stuff.

Hi, I have been away for a while and just come back to the good news that we have a release date for the album. I havent looked through all the information and news but I heard that EMI was the label. I would have thought that if it is being released in the normal format through a proper label that there will be a single released before the album drops to promote it as is normal for these types of releases. Any news on this yet or does anyone think there will be a single before the release of the album?

Welcome back! :)/> That is a good question..and YES there usually is a single before the album...I remember with Zeitgeist, Tarantula was released before the album dropped...wonder if there will be one for Oceania, and what it will be..?

speaking of Oceania..I have not been listening to any of the songs that have already been played live...I am trying to forget about them...I want to be surprised when the album comes out!

None of them. Honestly. My Love Is Winter or MAYBE an edited Pinwheels, but neither would be a *good* single. That said, I like those songs, I just don't hear anything that would work for radio.

Could be, yeah. Who knows. I tend to really like Corgan's singles, so I'm hoping there's one buried in the mix. If there's not and it's "just" a solid album, eh, that's a win too.

This conversation is sort of pointless, since Billy said they wouldn't really be releasing a single. That will probably change if there is an obvious choice, but that's his position right now.
Regardless, I think My Love Is Winter could get airplay. Sounds sort of classic Pumpkins, has a Muzzle/Stand Inside Your Love vibe. Produced right, it could be nostalgia inducing.

Has Billy given up on Teargarden By Kaleidyscope? Or will he continue it to completion?

:scatch:/> Oceania is "the album within an album" TbK being the album as a whole, but having something else inside it.

unless I am wrong but that is what comes to mind when Billy refers to album within an album. SO until he says TbK is dead, no longer being completed etc, assume the project is TbK with Oceania as an inside album.

Yeah, I know, but do you think that's just a way of him transitioning away from completing the TBK project?

As in, after Oceania is released and the tour, etc. is over, TBK will seem far enough in the past that he'll just say, "Oh yeah, we're not doing that any more." Or he will just not say anything further about it.

Honestly, if I had to guess, I don't think Billy wants to be tied down at this point. He wants to be free to leave Teargarden behind if he feels like it, or to keep it alive in some way.

For me, I have to be honest, I think that even if the name Teargarden lives on, it's kind of in-name-only. The essence of the Teargarden project to me was the songs being offered for free, no strings attached and it seems fairly clear at this point that's not going to be the case with Oceania (at least not initially). So, to me Teargarden in a strict sense is dead, but the name may live on with an altered project.

Another thing I've thought about is the huge Teargarden boxset that was supposed to happen at the end of all this, with all the music and fancy inserts and so on - does anyone see that happening now? I don't see it, myself.

I guess you can tell I have mixed feelings about the end of Teargarden. I really liked the idea, even if I understand why he moved on to Oceania...

I agree that it seems likely that it will live on in name but may continue to morph. I guess that works. I really wanted him to finish it as he originally set it forth, but perhaps at least continuing to carry on the name will be ok, if that is what happens.

TGBK is definitely dead IMO. He stated the free internet giveaway was failing him professionally. Why would he go back to that? That was the whole point. Oceania is a reaction to TGBK's failure. It's the antithesis of everything Billy was preaching during the "TGBK era". These songs and their release bear 0 connection to whatever it is he set out to do in 09.

:lol:/> well tbh it would not surprise me if he said "Oh yeah, we're not doing that anymore"

we dont have an insiders guide to his creative direction of what he is thinking about, what he is doing and/or how he can combine both together.

I see Tbk as a whole project of 44 songs, not just this freebie deal of songs.

Time will be kinder to TGBK if only because half of the shitty shock was how slow it rolled out, and how insubstantial the tunes were. Taken as a whole, it's OK because you can skip the stinkers and concentrate on what you like. It's also easier to like in retrospect cause Corgan has moved on to greener (?) pastures. When it's the end all be all it's tough.

I reiterate: had Corgan just released all of the Spirits songs and got it all over with in a year or so, he wouldn't be any farther ahead, but it'd be less embarrassing then what the whole thing turned into (nothing).

i see what you're saying but to me TBK is a lot more about "the 44" than the release method. As far as we know, "the 44" are still a go and Oceania is part of that.

I'd like to hope beyond hope that the next 20+ songs after Oceania get released in a timely fashion and he can wrap this up in a good way, and then move on to new SP projects.

i see what you're saying but to me TBK is a lot more about "the 44" than the release method. As far as we know, "the 44" are still a go and Oceania is part of that.

I'd like to hope beyond hope that the next 20+ songs after Oceania get released in a timely fashion and he can wrap this up in a good way, and then move on to new SP projects.

I kind of think all of the waiting is a replacement for that thing that used to happen when you couldn't get a CD. Do you know what I'm talking about? When files weren't freely available, it was exciting to get an album because you didn't have as much of a way to have control over hearing it prior to owning the album yourself.

From the songs that are already released to the Oceania songs plus the unreleased tracks we know of e.g. Lonely Is The Name, TBK could be finished soon. Billy must have enough tunes that are already recorded stashed away to complete the project, I mean, if he wanted to he could bring out the tracks in quick succession just to get it over with.

i dont see much recording getting done this year at all. right now it seems like billy is focusing on his book and wrestling right now while they wait for Oceania to be released, and then they'll tour for the rest of the year.

here's hoping 2013 sees the rest of TBK released.

It won't, though.

...thing is, I know I'll be happy with Oceania...but....I doubt I will be completely satisfied, knowing the wealth of great songs that havent been released.
