I'm new to this site but I can't help but notice a lot of people here don't like Gish too much.
Why is that? I still think Gish is one of their best albums. It was the perfect debut album.
How can you be a Pumpkins fan and not like high distorted classic shredding form I am One, or the crazy solos and riffs from Siva and Rhinoseros? The riff/ chorus/ second solo of Bury Me. Crush anyone? Tristessa sounds like something that could've been on Siamese Dream with an unforgettable vocals, riff, chorus, BRIDGE and solo for gods sake! lol
If your a big Pumpkins fan and you don't like Gish then chances are you haven't given it a decent try.
Anyway your thoughts?

I love Gish.

Window Paine solo = one of the best solos Billy ever wrote. At times it veers a little too far into Guns N' Roses territory (who, I'm sure you'll agree are shit) but overall the whole album gives me a good feeling and reminds me of a time when Billy didn't overthink every little detail. Gish is fucking raw.

Its not that nobody likes Gish, b/c we all do(if we are actually fans of SP). To some it's their favorite album.

Yup not the best but its def up there.
& I know this is of topic but I don't want to create an all new thread. Is there any guitar tab forums on here? I mean there has to be some guitar players on this sight. Because I really want the tabs to some Oceania songs, I tried figuring out a few but I didn't get too far :rofl:/>

I don't connect to the lyrics in Gish as much as I do with other SP releases. Nevertheless, it's still an A+ album for me due to its good use of highs/lows. Even though I put SD, Mellon Collie, Adore, and Machina The Machines of God ahead of Gish, the difference isn't too drastic.

There is a thread about Oceania tabs in the Songs & Lyrics section of the SP board. There is another subforum just for musicians in the General section.

Also, check the top right corner of any page on the message board for the search function. You can use it to find all sorts of things, either across the entire board or within specific subforums.

it was a pretty tame record in it's time, more of mood music than anything else. I really was not sold on the band until glynis and drown. Metal was dead and punk was on the rise. Even though it has a few rockers, overall I think of Gish as a hazy acoustic summery album. A good listen but nothing really breath taking. It was good stoner music but not much more. There was a lot of great rock music to choose from at the time,it was crazy. Gish did sound unique though and that probably helped in the long run.

Love the album, blew my mind when I first listened to it. Definitely not their best or my favourite but is a great CD to slap on and rock out to every so often :buttrock:/>

I dont think it's better then Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie but its definitely better then Adore by a long shot. That was my least favorite with the original line up (Besides drums of course)

Gish rocks. My favorites (in no particular order):

Gish
Siamese Dream
Pisces
Aeroplane

These would keep me happy on a desert island.

Adore is a masterpiece. Listen to the words.

Gish is one good record. Billy wasn't writing lyrics that were worth paying much attention to yet and the production sapped the power out of the rockers. Billy's singing is a bit too measured. Definitely not as good any sp1 record after it.

What usually draws me back to the album is crush, suffer, snail. A great three song sequence.

As far as debut albums go its certainly not as earth shattering as some of these:

Nevemind the bollocks sex pistols
Doors - doors
Turn on the bright lights - Interpol
Meet the Beatles - the Beatles
Led zeppelin 1
Diary - sunny day real estate
Velvet underground and nico

Just to name a few.

First four songs = Good
The rest of the album drags. I especially don't like snail, yet it's a fan favourite.

I started listening to Gish recently and it reminded me of how good of a debut it was. I really appreciated the softer, sweeter songs on the album like Crush and Daydream. They were quite a dynamic band even from the beginning.
