So we're less than a week away from the kick-off of the Canada/US leg of the arena tour, with the first stop being in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. For some context, we're the geographical centre of North America, about an 8 hour drive northwest of Minneapolis, just over a 2-hour flight away from Chicago, and about mid-way between Vancouver and Toronto. The band hasn't played in Winnipeg since the Summersault Festival tour in 2000. Also fun to note that Winnipeg has the highest homicide rate per capita of any city in Canada. It's a great place.

I have a VIP Premiere Package, and couldn't be more excited.

I'll do my best to live-tweet/ document as much as I can, but not making any promises. Find me on Twitter and Facebook.

Anyone else coming to this show? PM me - would love to meet some other fans to grab a beer or something. I work downtown and will be off at 5 so I'll be around. I have a handful of friends coming to the show as well, but no one is a big enough fan to pony up for VIP and they all have the lowest price-point seats, so I'll be flying solo for most of the evening.

Hi!

Just got home.

Amazing.

It's almost 1AM and I have work at 8AM, so this'll be quick and I'll update with a longer post tomorrow after work.

Hung out at the venue during soundcheck. I heard, through the doors:
Quiet
Thirty-Three
Mayonaise
My Love is Winter
One Diamond, One Heart
Black Sunshine

Pre-show was great. Got wristbands, briefed about what questions to ask (nothing about old members, etc), no sudden movements, no flash photography but video and non-flash photography is fine (everyone was filming, I filmed the whole show and Q+A). Went in, they came out, played There It Goes (I lost it when Nicole started the bass line), Plume (Jeff blew out his amp, so we moved to Q&A first while that got sorted out), then Quiet. Q+A was good - questions about reissues vs. new record, songwriting inspiration, Simpsons, hockey, name origin. I have it all filmed. Will go through it on the weekend. There were about 20 of us. One of which won his from a radio station.

The "sandbar" is a gated off section at the back of the floor next to the soundboard and lights. Great sound, good view of the orb, but at the back of the pit.

The setlist:
Oceania album
Space Oddity
XYU
Disarm
Tonite Reprise > Tonight, Tonight
BWBW
SIYL
*Billy pleads with crowd to stop crowd surfing, probably 5-6 surfers had been kicked out by now*
Zero
Ava Adore
Cherub Rock
----
33
Today

No Mayonaise, Gossamer, Black Sunshine, which was disappointing but I'll get over it.

Sad turn-out. Talked to security guard friend who worked the show - only 4000 tickets sold, a few HUNDRED were given away. The pit was barely half full, the top stands were closed, and holes everywhere in the seats.

But it was amazing. Was able to get a backstage wristband after the show to meet the band. I have photos with each member, chatted for about 20 minutes or so, and they took off.

Yes, another great performance by Billy & crew. 20 years, and haven't asked for my money back yet. :-)

Interesting to see the turnout. I wasn't sure what they could draw in such a large venue after all this time. We'll see what the other arena sites get over the next few weeks.

Glad to see you enjoyed the aftershow meet & greet. Had to get home to check on the kids - 10 years ago I would have been right there with you.

Of all aspects of the evening, chatting with Jeff was a highlight just because we hear from him infrequently. He is awesome. Didn't complete the doctorate, but explained that (I'm paraphrasing here) that he's just been so busy with the band, and that the only reason he would not finish his PhD is because he loved the band and it wasn't just about making money as a guitarist. Super cool guy.

Definitely having mixed feelings about not going, much like when I missed them in 1996. Glad to read some of the impressions of the show and makes me wonder if I might have an opportunity to catch them later on in the tour in a different city. It was really sad to see the reports about the poor ticket sales but I did wonder a little about the selection of venue.

Even having missed them this time my biggest regret is still not being able to see them play Lollapalooza in 1994, especially those second stage shows.

I also still wonder if I will ever get to meet Billy but really starting to think the answer to that is no.

You live-tweeted the entire show? If anyone near me spent the entire concert fiddling with their phone, I would make sure it found its way into the nearest beer.

Edit: Whoop, there goes 900. :shocked:/>

It is the VIP thing. As stated above, it comes with the Premiere Package, and runs about $400. I cannot afford that, so I just got regular floor seats for Toronto

The band in the room is the pre-show concert and Q&A that is part of the premiere VIP package. This is not a meet and greet. There are no photos with the band, no approaching the band, no autographs, nadda. Room full of bodyguards and security.

I was able to go backstage after the show. I won't go into details as to how it happened, but it made my night.

And an update about my video. Went through it briefly and it turned out surprisingly well. The video is very shaky since I was busy enjoying the show and moving to the music rather than looking at the screen. But whatever. The audio turned out great given the camera I had, not disgustingly overdriven, pretty clear. Since there is already video of the 3 songs posted, there's no rush for me to post them anymore. I'll edit and upload my angle plus the Q+A this weekend when I get a chance.

Hi friends,

Here is my footage from the Winnipeg Premier VIP Pre-Show.

The running order is:
1 - There It Goes
2 - Plume
3 - Q&A Part 1
4 - Quiet
5 - Q&A Part 2

So I taped this for the sole purpose of having a personal souvenir of the evening. Yes, I know the video isn't HD. I know the audio is a little overdriven. I know my camera work is pretty bad, but honestly, I pressed the button, held it up and didn't really pay any more attention to it since I was enjoying the show. Don't think anyone could blame me for that.

There It Goes

Plume

Q&A Part 1

Quiet

Q&A Part 2

Enjoy :)/>

To watch the entire show as a playlist in the correct running order: http://www.youtube.c...G5HIEgrEEJpvAVE

And PLEASE - SHARE AND SPREAD THE MUSIC. You have no idea how grateful I am of those who have made it possible for me to collect live SP bootlegs, and as a fan who has long admired the dedication and generosity of the SP fan community, I am so glad I finally have the opportunity to play a small role in giving back.
