if i was to listen
i'd turn back
give up all my reasons
forget the past
you think i'd swallow that
bearing the weight of the ceilings
just to stop and ask
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein
they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long lost friends
empty on the insides
empty on the last pretends
standing by the feeling of an end
so many lights
runaway life
so many lights
when they locked you up
they shut me out
they gave me the keys so i could show you around
but we were not allowed
ominous of a daydream of a cottage abound
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein
they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long lost friends
caught in the spotlight
running out of the present tense
fixing on a feelings of an end
so many lights
runaway
please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse
please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse
please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse
please come back

Please, Billy...tell me that you allowed the emotions to bleed through on the studio cut.

Thank you. Those are great. I love it when Billy writes songs about his mama. They are so mournful yet so sweet.

The more you listen the better it becomes, but yeah Pinwheels is really the stronger of the 2. Both beautiful songs. He has really done a great job with these new songs so far. Im beyond impressed and this is just based on live performances

And I agree, just these live performances are incredibly impressive. I'm excited to see how they end up on the CD :)/>

Don't get me wrong, I love Pinwheels, but I have to agree it's on the lesser side of the new songs. I love the imagery in the lyrics, and that intro, but all the other songs do more for me, put aside Quasar and Panopticon.
I really like all the new songs, and they all give me hope, but Pale Horse is just spectacular. The big three for me are Pale Horse, Oceania and MLIW.

My opinion is the same. I like all of them, but 'Pinwheels' touch my ears less than others. I kinda disliked the new 'My Love Is Winter' at the beginning, but after some listens, it became an enjoyable song. I respect the old version of it, but the new one is a really great replacement :]. And coincidence or not, but my top songs are also similar to yours :D/>. 'Oceania' and 'Pale Horse' are my favourites from those live performed 'Oceania' songs=]. Though, I'm not sure what the third favourite song is.

MLIW took me a few listens to adjust to aswell, but I just love the quickness of it now. And that intro, my god, I hope the intro is in the studio cut.
But yes, Oceania and Pale Horse are def my top 2 :)/> They're just wonderful all around.

I listened to it again, and it could definitely be Thorazine. I suppose flourescein doesn't make sense anymore since he says "locked you up" instead of "lit you up".

This version has pretty good sound quality
...and as odd a chorus as it seems, I think it is fluorescein.

Nice to hear a very direct emotional song instead of some of the more esoteric/new agey lyrics of some of the other recent songs.

Hopefully we get the lyrics with this album, but here is a start:

bearing the weight of the ceilings
just to stop and [ask?]
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein
they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long last ...
empty on the inside
running out of the last protests
standing by the feeling of an end
[stowaway or slow away?] [lights or life?]
runaway [love or life?]
when they lit you up
you shut me out
they gave me the keys so i could show you around
but we were not around
ominous of a day dream of a cottage [abound?]
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein
they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long last ...
coming [or cutting?] out of the spotlight
running out of the last protests
standing by the feelings of an end
[stowaway or slow away?] [lights or life?]
runaway [love or life?]

please come back, pale horse
please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse

Thinks comment was right about thorazine but it's a combination of the two.

But there's one thing I can't get past: the theme, or the hook, or the riff, or whatever you want to call it ... the music that makes up the intro, and recurs a couple more times. Basically, any part without vocals. It's like a Egyptian (or whatever...) phrase bastardized to make a pop song cute. (In trying to make my point, I'm overstating it...it's really not that bad.) It sounds like the bad hook to a bad song (just throw a dart blindfolded) on Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.
Outside after the New York City show a couple weeks ago, I overheard a fan tell Billy that they really like Pale Horse. Billy's response was self-critical, regretful, and cautionary -- he said that he likes the studio version, but has some reservations about the live version. (I don't reemmber exactly what he said.) I found this first-hand display of his constant self-appraising, introspection, and fixation with his work really interesting. And he had me wondering if the music will make more sense to me when I hear the studio version.

Pale horse just got me burst into tears. :cry:/>(<- comic relief)
I know that some are going to mock this kind of reaction over a song but never mind.
There are raw emotions into those lyrics that echoed my personal history (anger, sadness, admission of helplessness -standing by the feeling of an end- and so on).
I just wonder how can Billy sing this song and For Martha every night on stage and not be litterally torn through at the end of it. It seems you can get used to everything. I bet the first recording was a bit harsh though.

ok sorry for goign off topic there

Pale horse does not spare us any of the gory details of the end of life under medical care. I think the lyrics are even more powerful for this reason. I would have never thought that an artist could make such a beautiful song out of such things (that I also had to cope with).
Corgan can be such a genius sometimes.

In our crazy lifestyle, what does it remember us? To see the real things? That we have to deaden the pain? Is it our way to deaden it, in not looking truly our life?
Are we able to give a look at what we really feel? The pain to see all the tubes maintaining us alive? Are we alive? Or just zombies?
Great song indeed!

My father was in a hospice for the last week of his life and I got the vibe that they didn't care what happened to him. At all.
Sorry to go on a tangent. I just see clear as day what this song could mean to BC, and I understand it. It is a difficult feeling that I still am not over. And clearly, it took Billy over 10 years to find the peace of mind and words to address her death & treatment directly. Good on him. This is a beautiful song. I cannot wait to the heights he took this to in-studio. :happy:/>

You know, I'm pretty sure I'm ready to completely retract this. (For one thing, "Egyptian" was innaccurate.) And it's not throwing me off so much anymore -- lately, the ENTIRE song is sounding pretty damn good to me.

Well, I may have overstated that he was critical of the live version -- I don't know exactly what was in his head, obviously. Basically, a girl said to him, "Pale Horse is a beautiful song", and his immediate response was something like, "Eh, yeah, I'm not really sure about it live, it's okay, but I like the studio version a lot more." It's not like he was saying that the live version is terrible or a complete failure -- but the fact that the first (and I think only) thing that he said shows that the studio version being better was definitely prominent on his mind, at least at that point, a half hour after that night's show.

Exactly! It's so Adore-esque. it has that sad yet beautiful charm to it, but it sounds so sincere at the same time. Just like most songs on Adore. Guess I didn't realize haha, that so many people preferred it as well!
I definitely think it has classic potential :)/>

Pale Horse & MLIW, especially, have something special to them. Lyrically, vocally, and just the vibe I get. Oceania does as well, but mainly the first third of the song does. That intro SLAYS me everytime. "No one can love you, 'cause no one can free you. Lovers can't touch you, 'cause lovers might reach you, yeah..."

I know what you mean. Those are the big 4 for me too, and I think with great production the other 2 will turn out really really well. I have full confidence.
Oceania is great, the intro slays me as well. I agree the first 3rd is the best, that part where he sings "and still she's gone.." gets me everytime. It gives me chills. The guitar there, everything is just devastating. I haven't felt anything like that from a Pumpkins song since........ Slow Dawn
I just can't believe how good these songs sound. It's so dreamy, yet so different from earlier work. I absolutely can't wait for this album!
