More iconic because the first time you look at it, it has more impact. And that will make you remember it easily and identify it anywhere you see it again.

It doesn't mean Oceania's a bad or ugly cover, but it doesn't have the same impact as all those other pumpkins cover have.

Yep. It's weak.

Still loving this cover. It's very bleak but very very pretty. Which is really what Oceania the song is. Definitely holds the isolation factor BC said about..

This is an album within an album with absolutely no connection to that album.

Found this comment to Nicole on Facebook: " Oh Nicole, the cover artwork is absolutely STUNNING!!!!! It just makes me even more anxious for the music. Of course, you can't judge a "book" by its cover but if this is any indication of the musical quality, I think we will all be in for something outstanding."

Jesus fucking christ. It's not a bad album cover, but let's calm the fuck down here.

It's not a tower. It's a giant obelisk. TBK connection found.

it doesn't matter. it's most likely the obelisk. the tbk obelisk probably represents this "real" tower in the oceania cover, and it all means something. we'll find out.

No, because it's not even a random tower, it's a lighthouse. Oceania... island... ocean... lighthouse.

In older times, the lighthouse emited light from a fire, not from an electric light. That's probably an old lighthouse like this:

oh ok...kind of has a fancy "steeple" on top of it

hmm and in his classic rock interview he said

Quote

isolation seems to be the theme. Oceania- there's something about the idea of being an island, or being an astronaut. a sense of displacement.

so where does the astronaut space stuff fit in? maybe he has skipped that and it's just ocean/island related now.

I absolutely LOVE the cover art. Can't wait to see and hear it all.

It looks like a lighthouse to me. I like the ambiguity. Cool colors and wise type choice in my opinion.

Within, do you never feel like as being far in your own space?

sure, but that astronaut/space reference he is spoke about doesn't exactly fit the cover. however the song quasar shows that part I guess.

Oceania looks a lot like either the American Gothic cover or the Pisces Iscariot tape. A fairly natural evolution I think, and it looks more like the reissue covers than the original. Maybe it's iconic in that it looks markedly subdued compared to the other mainstream Pumpkins albums. Kind of like the White Album. Actually, it looks a lot like a Floyd cover. Like Umagamanuma.

It was just an example of isolation, I think. He could use a diver instead... that would make "more sense":

definitely, however sometimes he just doesn't always come off making 100% sense right away, maybe we will figure that "sense" part out once we have the album. :shrug:/> right now somethings make sense and somethings just don't

Loving the cover, I think I like it more than most Pumpkins covers. For me, the best artwork to date is Machina, but for the inside paintings and the old looking paper rather than the cover.

I agree that Machina has the best art-work, over all. Hands down. :cheers:/>

I dunno. The American Gothic cover is probably their worst one in my opinion. This is way way more interesting than that.

You should know better than to hint to this crowd that there is some sort of deeper meaning behind something that Billy Corgan does. This is the same group that tries to predict when things will be released based on numerology.

This got me thinking about their other album covers. I think we should start new threads to discuss them all. We'll start with Pisces Iscariot; What does the green and yellow represent? Why is the bottom right-hand corner really dark? What's the symbolism?

Hahaha I actually really liked Quasar/Stella Polaris and the People Mover as the title. I think it had a very good prog sense of humor, almost like some of the Mellon Collie tracks specifically, but also a lot of the Pumpkins work (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Saddness, Cupid de Locke, Set the Ray to Jerry, Starz, naming your band The Smashing Pumpkins! hahaha...) The fact that the song kicks ass would have just made its name more hillariously awesome.

Anyways, I think it's cool the art looks different from album to album. I would hate for Billy to have the same artist design each cover, like Radiohead does. I consider it part of his growth and journy.

More iconic because the first time you look at it, it has more impact. And that will make you remember it easily and identify it anywhere you see it again.

It doesn't mean Oceania's a bad or ugly cover, but it doesn't have the same impact as all those other pumpkins cover have.

I would think if anything makes Zeitgeist "iconic" it's a connotation to the album that's essentially infamous in Pumpkin circles. SP fans see it and there's a knee-jerk reaction toward liking it or outright hating it. I'd say as far as having any kind of impact, one would have to wait until Oceania has been out and digested to see if there's any impact to be had.
