the pumpkins were that good last time I decided to go for one more gig on the European leg of their current tour before it's over. And what better place than in the heart of Europe: Saturday 3d of December in Luxembourg? Our fellow board member, Sophie, will be coming over from Paris so why not meeting up with some fans and going to the gig together?

European pumpkins fans might numbered these days, but then again, we still have a few neighboring countries to be represented I believe. Anyone else up for it?

Thank you agent_cooper for the anouncement.

It is true indeed that both of us were so enthusiastic at the end of the shows we respectively attended that we decided to go for one more gig of the European part of the tour. Moreover it has been such a pleasure to interact with other fans about the concerts on the forum and read the reviews of the gigs all around Europe that the idea of settling a little fan meetup progressively grew in our minds.

So if you haven't made up your mind yet here are some good reasons to come to the concert that will be hold in Luxembourg on Dec. 3rd.

  • First and foremost if you attended a former gig you already know that the shows are totally awesome.
  • The concert takes place on a Saturday so you may not have to take a day off to attend the show, and you will have the Sunday to rest.
  • The venue is really easy to reach. You can go to Luxembourg City by plane, train or car.
For those like me who don't have a car and will come by train you can reach the concert place by public transportation from Lux City station (really easy, departures every 30 minutes, I can give you the details)
  • If you come from a very distant place there is an hotel just in front of the venue. There are still several rooms available and we have tips for a discount (we could also share rooms).
  • The concert is not sold out yet and the tickets for the show are only charged 42€ which is not very expensive compared to the danish gig for instance. And considering the quality of the music played there I would even say it's cheap !
  • Most of german shows have been cancelled anyone from Germany who would like to come to neighboring Lux ?
  • Wouldn't it be great to set up a fan meetup with people from all around Europe and more ?
  • Don't you want to show the band how much you love their music ? They certainly appreciate some support.
  • Haven't you ever dreamt of doing something not really planned for weeks once in your lifetime (like taking your car and attending a terrific concert in a foreign country, huh ?)
  • You may be able to catch a guitar pick after the show for your personal collection.
  • If you don't come you are going to regret it for the rest of your life anyway...
  • ...

I'm sure I could put at least ten more items on that list. There so many good reasons to come and join us. Believe me this will be a rendez-vous not to be missed !

In brief my best argument is: The :sp:/> will positively take you to a musical journey in Luxembourg on dec. 3rd, don't miss the shuttle !

See YOU soon...

Well I may be a very naive person but I believe in second chances :coy:/> . I think you should on the contrary come and help us providing the band with a very smart & supportive audience (I mean the kind of audience which doesn't chat out loud during Pale Horse without getting what the lyrics are about for instance).

I know you have been a litlle grumpy these days, saying that the band has perhaps lost you forever (yes I've read all our posts ont the thread concerning the gig in Brussels). To be honest there have been times when I wasn't really into it either. But the band and the audience have really surprised me in Paris. I thought the venue would have been too large and it was almost full, I thought Billy had lost his voice and it was positively not the case, I thought I'd be bored by the new avant-garde tunes of Oceania (Oceania in particular) and I really appreciated them live.

I've read you focus on the tunes belonging to the very first albums of the band. I'm sure you already know that the setlist for the concert is full of them. And if you had the chance to listen to the recording of the parisian gig by Aleruty for instance you also already know that they are really well played live.

Come on CoolAsIceCream, Nothing ventured nothing gained ! Join us ! ^_^/>

heh, i was joking. that wasn't the reason i'm out. i wouldn't go see them if they were playing in my kitchen, a place that is typically known for its enthusiastic and supportive audiences.

and i disagree. most of the old tunes aren't played well live. don't even get me started on the singing. it's atrocious. you'd have to pay me money, and a lot of it, before i go to a concert and listen to that kind of stuff out of free will.

and they were like "WOOHOO! YAY! FREEBIRD!!!"

and i was like ":rolleyes:/> typical."

Ok, so you've never been to Luxembourg I see... and you just watch too many CSI episodes a day! ;)/>

Don't worry, I wouldn't have shared my room with a total stranger anyway, I'm not a sweet, coy, stupid teenage girl anymore (never even have been I guess). And I don't trust YOU "kind" men talking to me on the net. The thing is I've got my room booked and I thought I could have perhaps shared it with one of my real-life friends who read this forum and are reluctant to come to Lux because of the expenses due to train tickets and accomodation. It was a personal message.

CoolAsIceCream,
  • you got me with that bad audience thing, -shame on me :banghead:/>
  • I reckon you watch too much TV anyway... :ras:/>.
  • But I like you even if you're pulling my legs. :hug:/> (I'm sure you will be fond of my hug emoticon...)

I've just come back from the gig in Luxembourg, and once again what a great gig !!!
The band rocked our souls well !

The setlist was a little different from the previous show I had seen (no Pinwheels nor Owata for instance), but we did have Tonight, tonight and 3 songs for the encore (My love is winter, Zero & Bullet). The order of the songs was a little different too. For Martha and Pale horse were put together in a very subtle way for instance.

Bad news is there was an intense mosh in the pit and my camera was broken. This means very few photos for me to provide you with. (Great news for me though I succeeded in catching Billy's guitar pick. I'm pretty sure my guitar skills are going to be deeply improved in the next few days, I can't wait to try it ;)/>)

We also had a great fan meetup. People from Belgium and France mainly (hello everyone ! :cheers:/> ). I also met really nice record shop owners during the day and went to chat with them a little at the end of the show to exchange our point of view. Everyone was really impressed by how well they played tonight (we had some great solos from each member of the band. Nicole's solo was short but very popular believe me..;)/>, and I think Mike blew some minds off).

Billy was not very talkative tonight but he really seemed in a good mood and had some fun with Jeff. Both were often smiling (yes even Jeff who is usually so shy!). Oh and I almost forgot something really cool : Jeff came to play with the supportive band Ringo Deathstarr. How amazing ! I think someone from the meetup recorded this.

We'll try to give you more details concerning this show in the forthcoming days, but one thing for sure: this is definitely a great, great year for the SP !

You're going to USE the pick?are you insane?I would frame it or put it on a chain but not use it. It will wear out. I have a Jeff buckley pick my brother gave me and although I am a guitarist I would never use it that would be stupid!

Glad you enjoyed the show though...

Ok I'm not going to USE it in an intensive way don't worry, it's not like I have a tour around Europe planned for the forthcoming months. ;)/>
To be honest I will probably frame it and put it on my SP wall with the other stuff I own, but I will definitely try it just once for the thrill (maybe just for a couple of chords), and say to myself "damn this sound was obtained thanks to Billy Corgan's guitar pick'" -Im' not worthy, I'm not worthy, I'm scum, I suck- etc (well you know that movie scene)

-> OK, does this post make me look like a stupid hardcore fan ?;)/>

My ex-girlfriend stole the pick that BC played Soot and Stars with at the Record Store Day show last year. Keep your pick safe!

Damn that's a really cruel thing to do to a fan ! She was definitely not a trustworthy person, from an objective point of view it's a good thing that you are away from her by now (but love affairs are always more complicated than this, am I right ?)

-----------------------

I forgot to tell you: I think we were granted with some kind of new stuff tease. :jackyl:/>
Billy played something very short on the mellotron which I did not recognize and sounded very Oceania-like.

Can someone confirm this info ? I think it was just before Pale horse but I can't remember well...
I definitely have to write my review asap otherwise I won't have any memory left (my brain is not getting any younger !)...

Oh man... this is why you take a pad and paper to shows! Or write it in your phone, I suppose.

Were Geek, Frail, and I am One played? The person who put up the setlist on setlist.fm has question marks where they would usually be in the setlist.

There was definitely no I am one (I was waiting for it so I am positive).
I took a quick glance at the setlist you linked. As far as I can remember I think that Geek USA was played earlier, maybe in 4th position, instead of this "unknown" song mentioned, and I think Frail was played instead of Geek on that list, and the rest seems correct, but honestly I'm not sure at all (especially for Frail, I'm starting to mix the setlists of the different gigs). :unsure:/>
Can someone help me there ? Maybe someone from the meetup ?

You know what, I took the time to post you a message right after the gig, I went there with a heavy reflex camera (which -as I told you- was broken, and whose strap actually lacerated my flesh in the neck) to take beautiful pics to share with you, I sent all my best photos to Bystarlight.org this very morning so you can enjoy them freely quite quickly, etc, so mind you if I didn't take time to note the setlist as well, nor remember it by heart. I actually thought that perhaps someone ELSE could be in charge of listing the songs during the gig because: yes I also wanted to fully enjoy the performance from time to time... Man we were thousands of people in there, someone must have done it ! :yes:/>
Moreover I never use my phone during gigs because I hate when I see tons of bright screens in front of my eyes and I can't turn off the screen on mine.

I must add that I had prepared an A4 sign to ask for a printed setlist at the end of the show but this paper was stolen from me as I was holding it up in the air. Some crazy guy thought I had actually suceeded in getting the setlist and was holding it proudly ... :crazy:/>

I was there, they definitely played Frail and Bedazzled. No I Am One. And one likely something new from Oceania, an instrumental tease. The setlist according to how I remember it was as follows

Hey agent_cooper !

Glad to hear from you on this forum after the meet up in Luxembourg (such a positive experience !)
Thanks for the setlist and the confirmation that Frail was played before Silverfuck instead of Geek. My brain is not that spoiled after all ;)/>. Yet I totally forgot about that Superchrist tease, thanks for reminding us this.

Concerning this new stuff well here is what I remember happening basically (feel free to correct me or add things).
  • The band ended playing For Martha as usual.
  • Billy came back to play the mellotron, really focused.
  • He played something instrumental for a few minutes. Definitely something we hadn't heard before. As already stated it was something very dreamy, very Oceania-like. The lights on stage were also all blue and cold like the ones used for several Oceania slow songs.
  • Given the atmosphere I first thought this could be an alternative intro for Pale horse, or for the slow version of My love is winter, (or for Oceania just to give you a hint of what it sounded like because Oceania had already been played). Of course this could also be the actual intro of some really new stuff !
  • Then Billy stopped, went back to his mike, grabbed his guitar and Pale horse began.
  • My opinion is that this passage of the concert was disconnected from its surrounding tunes: a musical interlude more than a tease introducing or in the continuation of a song. Same atmosphere and same sound in a general way but a piece of music standing for itself if you see what I mean.

I must add that I had prepared an A4 sign to ask for a printed setlist at the end of the show but this paper was stolen from me as I was holding it up in the air. Some crazy guy thought I had actually suceeded in getting the setlist and was holding it proudly ... :crazy:/>
Here's a pick of what I had prepared:

i wasn't laughing at your collage, but at the fact that someone would steal it from you because they thought it was in fact the setlist. hahaha. you indeed need to be a bit crazy for that.

now that i think about it though, i'm starting to believe they stole it from you because you were holding it up in the air. maybe they got tired of that? (or was it stolen after the show?)

Well you could have, I don't mind !
It looks like crappy teenage fan artwork to me anyway and it was done in something like 5 min in the train on my way to Lux !
The fact that someone stole it from me is all the more funny ! :rofl:/>

Hell no ! There's no way I would have shown such a ridiculous thing to the band, I would have felt so embarrassed !
It just helped me asking for the setlist to the stage men after the show because my Luxemburgish has not really improved lately... ;)/> (and you know what it almost worked !)

During a gig I like to fully enjoy the perfomance and I would have never done something preventing the others from enjoying it as well.

if language was your main concern, maybe you shouldn't have put the question in english.

I thought the words "setlist please" and my large imploring dark eyes would have eventually rung a bell :coy:/>

(and then I dramatically realized I'm not in my 20s anymore... ;)/>)

Jeff came to play with the supportive band Ringo Deathstarr. How amazing ! I think someone from the meetup recorded this...

...and should post this on youtube (come on hurry up men ! :bounce:/> )

In order to wait for this video: here is what happened during one of the (or maybe both ?) gigs in Lisbon. It seems that Jeff came to play with Ringo Deathstarr as well during those shows.
I think there was a great level of complicity between Jeff and this band as I saw him sincerely enjoying their performance backstage before getting on stage to play with them whereas it was probably the 20th time he had seen performing.

Close up at 0:37 & 1:50
