"I really emphasized particularly to Mike that the song was generated and written from an interpretive spirit, and really the only way to play it live is to interpret it every time."

Exactly. You know why I found the new versions of XYU were great? Because I felt like Billy was "living" the song again. Just like the band really interpreted Space Oddity just before.
Singing a song is not enough you have to experience it wether you are on stage or in the audience. I prefer someone singing a little out of tune but transcended by music rather than the contrary. That's what I look for at gig anyway.

Like Billy said:
I think people go to shows not to see hit songs. I’ll say it a thousand times. They go to see a fucking rock show. They want your cock out in some form or fashion.

Bill sounds mad like hell, man, he really should make an album now.

favorite line:
I'm sorry, every system up until the last ten, twelve years… it kicked its own door in. They didn't need it lubricated first. The Clash kicked the fucking door in. Nirvana kicked their own door in. The Cure kicked their own door in. Whatever, pick your fucking movement. Kick in your own fucking door. You don't need a guy with a fucking beard to put you over. Do it yourself.

The best part is that in an interview with a notable online magazine, Billy basically says "Fuck online reviwers, I don't need you".
....And the online reviwer? "Ohhh. Totally man."

Yep. And I really loved that line as well, just the day before the big streaming event (if this ever happens because I'm starting to think it is a joke).
"And when music is so goddamned fucking iTunes friendly cuddly, it makes me want to fucking puke."

i think what he meant by pomposity was the idea that they're somehow automatically better just because they're radiohead....not because of fancy head-dresses.

funny meme though. just seems maybe a bit out of context, when referring to the actual quote.

but it's probably totally in context in some other context. lulz.

Sadly i cant read it it wont show. But the quote about Radiohead is so right. Its "cool" and "acceptable" to like them because critics in magazines say so. Radiohead are so arty, so therefore they must be automatically better than every other band? Bullshit.

Ive always said only 50% of Radioheads fans actually like them, other 50% say they like them because they think they are supposed to and this somehow proves they have "good taste".

I love Billy's envy towards Radiohead. Just because they're still good and people realize it, doesn't make them pompous.

Just read some of the quotes Monte put up on Crestfallen. I really think Billy just likes to say obscure sounding shit just to be "artistic" and "shocking." All the profanity just comes across as sad.

Billy is a clever guy....

the week his new album comes out he makes a few comments about radiohead and dave grohl (two of the most popular amongst the press and mainstream) - Billy knows it will get a headlines and that any subsequent article will go on to mention 'oceania' being released

he's just playing the game
