Hey, they play November Rain & Stairway endlessly on the radio. Why not Oceania?

I believe a single puts too much attention to a particular song, and overshadows the rest of the album to those who don't follow SP. It can be misleading at times, and create bad first impressions. People new to SP will listen to the single to get a feel for the album, and if they don't like the single, they probably won't check out the rest of the album. Rather than digging into the diverse album, they generalize the album's genre based on the single. I know many people that have done that with Disarm and SD.

however, there needs to be something to let people know that Oceania is out there and exists.
but i suppose it will get the reviews once it comes out, anyway.
my fear is just that people either won't know it exists or just ignore it. as it is, the only people anticipating this album are SP fans. other than for us, there doesn't seem to be much of a buzz about it coming out. unless i'm oblivious?

we are getting near the end of April and May is the only month left before June. I thought we would start to see some mini advertising (beyond the interviews, the one pic Linda did, and youtube live performance of a few songs) related to the album by now. It's almost scary that there has been nothing for us to see and show/share with other people.

I saw those tweets in the morning in @deedeelux twitter account. As news from this appeared, the Oceania and @smashingpumpkin tweets magically... disappeared!.

To be completely honest I don't know exactly what to expect... Burlesque can be brilliant as well as tasteless. :whattodo:/>

It would be great if Billy appeared in the video as a starfish or someting.

The videos could be footage for the tour too.

Yeah, that's true, I saw ByStarlight RT's and went staight to the account and noticed she has been in this since the friday with all the @smashingpumpkin tags and stuff, she stated they will be recording her still today, a few minutes later... no trace of any of those tweets, even the images.
And yeah, being part of the tour footage is a possibility.

Could be! Time is indeed running out for the footage of a full album video (considering that no single was initially supposed to be released).

If they fall into a whole "Little Mermaid" thing the video better be really good and tasteful otherwise...

C'mon you know he only dresses up like this in private... ;)/>
Now seriously I can be all "second degree" sometimes and I actually kind of liked the golden dress joke, but this time the band needs something strong enough to boost the album.

a turtle and an octopus is involved somehow. this should be interesting. no other marine animals? no penguins, no seals, no sharks and other things were included?
are they using the visuals that are being worked on by Sean Evans in May when they perform or does it begin later?

Not to say it won't be used in a live presentation, but if you are going to invest that much time and money into shooting, you are likely going to put it out in another way, so that people are more invested when they see those visuals at the show.
It also doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a music video, since Billy knows the MTV days are over and there apparently isn't a single. So I'd probably throw that out.
I would say a version of what TV on the Radio did with their last record, 9 types of light, is highly likely.
They launch the hour long music video film to stream upon release, with order options to follow. Thus no leaking. You are forced to watch the whole video, get the full 'experience' and understand the concept. Then when you order your cd, or vinyl, you get your digital download, plus a file of the video as well. Hopefully as part of the packages you could opt to receive a copy of the film on dvd/blu, but I know in TVOTR's case, they didn't release the film like that initially (although I believe you can buy a hard copy of it now).
I think this would be the hands down best business model to reinvigorate the Pumpkin crowd who had a fondness for their creative videos in the 90's, while staying fresh and showing off the new band in a cool way.
My only concern is timewise; if they are just starting this now, that is a lot to shoot to get it done in time for early June. But if you bring in a few different directors, doing their own things simultaneously, they each do a song or two that speaks to them, then it probably would be possible. Still tight though. But who knows maybe it started a while back and we've been completely clueless all along? Here's hoping if this is the case, Billy brings in some really interesting directors to do their own Pumpkins thing, while shooting at least one or two of the songs himself.

interesting.
I suppose if it's different for the album and the tour this could be a stimulating album visually after all.

I'm right there with you. It's like every shade of blue I love to death put into one, and then an amazing bit of scenery on top of that.
I agree that it evokes isolation too. I love it!
