Anyone else find it funny we are basically a month away from release, and not only do they not even have the release date posted on the main splash page, but also no link whatsoever to any kind of info in regards to the record or tracklisting? Little things, I know, as this information is out there and accessible, but I just find it so puzzling to wrap my head around.

If anyone is actually getting paid as an SP web admin, they honestly need to be massacred.

there is a reason to this madness. stay calm :)/>

I don't need any updates, tracklistings, links, or any info whatsoever. I just went to Amazon and bought it, easy as pie.

So great. Billy is proud of you. Everyone is. Hey, maybe he'll even send you a medal for being such a good fanboy.

So we're about three weeks off hearing Oceania, assuming there isn't an earlier leak.

I feel like we will see a proper leak around the 5th-7th of June. Chances are it will be all ready to go by then, so I don't see it lasting until Billy's big unveiling. Someone at one of the distributors will get their greasy paws on it and throw it up. Whether I listen is another matter entirely, but I suppose that is all dependant on how much the SP camp has their ducks in a row in terms of attempting to keep people invested in their specific presentation of it. They need the right amount of build up (site re-launch, etc), combined with the right amount and type of information deciminated (in terms of when the stream will happen, what exactly is involved in it, etc). If they do it right, I will hold out. If they mess it up like just about everything else up to this point in terms of their digital relationship with the fans, I probably cave in to the torrents.

Hopefully by June 1st we will see a new website with all the necessary details for release, any new pre-order info, bundle packages, and, of course, tour dates. I'll tell you one thing that would get to me pre-order Oceania from SP directly, regardless of being taken to the cleaners on shipping - guaranteed presale codes for tickets. Not suggesting that is going to happen, their marketing braintrust is not capable of anything that savvy, or something that well planned in advance, however it would be cool if they did SOMETHING to try and tie the audio release of the record to the visual aspect of the tour (or as previously mentioned, bundle packages that include Oceania in your chocie of format as well as the accompanying blu-ray/DVD, featuring music videos for each track, etc).

This is where I get really really excited and really really worried at the same time. Kinda makes me a bit nauseous, haha.

But yeah, bring it on Billeh. I'm super pumped, and I really hope the songs shine with their studio treatment.

There's a good reason why a splash page promoting Oceania doesn't have the release date of the album and that the "Tour Dates" link lists only 3 dates, one of which has been cancelled? The only good reason for these is that the release date is not firm, Rock Coast still has a chance of being un-cancelled, and the other five tour dates are in imminent danger of being cancelled. Is that the case?

apparently there is a good a reason. when the splash page went up I made comment about it missing a number of things as you listed.

Billy should be embarrassed by this website. Its quite literally the most sloppy site of a band with the pedigree of the Pumpkins that ive seen in a long time. How about having a little pride?. With only around five weeks from the release of Oceania, this place should be in better order. If Billy doesn't care about the fact that this site reeks of his apathy, and would rather give news through twitter and other sources, there should at least be links to these sites. Its really pathetic.

One band that couldn't give less of a shit these days about their website is Tool, they haven't updated that thing in ages, shit they didn't even post any of the last tour dates on there I don't think, but at least the layout is simple and easy to navigate and it has all their history, past dates, etc.

As far as proper websites for bands Billy could take a lesson from? NIN.com is great. There's even a phone app for it.

TVontheradio has a pretty decent layout among many others.

I would honestly be happy if sp.com just reverted back to how it used to be. It had it's glitches, but at least it had setlists posted, a proper navigational system, etc.

Ever since they got rid of that design it's been all downhill.

That website WAS great in retrospect. Who knew all the whining would push it all in the opposite direction. Le sigh.

I like Tori Amos's website. I can always find what I'm looking for there, and I like that she posts her tour setlists, too. It's not over the top or waaaaay built out with tons of content, but it looks good, is easy to navigate, and hits all the basics.

By means of comparison, Rush has an album coming out next month and a tour as well. On their website, you can easily access all that info and it has a pretty cool steampunk design they're into now. No forums, not particularly interactive, but it has all the basics.

Why can't Billy do this?

Muse also has a good website in terms of information and navigation. Do the people chastising us for "complaining" actually think the current site is acceptable? Is your goal to obfuscate things as much as possible for any potential new fans and drive them away, because if so mission accomplished!

I think those blaming Billy are fairly off-base, though. Sure, he's the CEO of this operation, if you will, but clearly he has someone on the payroll to do the website and he really shouldn't have to tell them to fix a link that was broken for 3 days or put the release date of the album on the splash page. I think that's a service you should expect from anyone you pay to run your website.

It's what the mechanic at the garage does when your car is borked, sort of a sign of disapproval and anticipation of a pending shitstorm.

I was gonna mention Muse, too. Band of Skulls also have an easy-to-navigate page with sufficient info.

I made an SP website in a web design class I took 5 or 6 years ago that would be on par with the current site. :lick:/>
