BW: So the album is going to be released online and completely for free?

BC: Actually, that is not the plan. We are actually gonna release it first in some kind of capacity where you can hear it, and then we’re trying to figure out how to actually sell this one.

We have taken a lot of effort to put together a cohesive album, and we feel like it’s at that moment that we really should offer something that way for righter reasons, not just to sell it because a lot of people still don’t get their music outside of traditional means. You’d think that giving it away for free, everybody who would want to hear it would hear it, but it doesn’t necessarily work that way. We are free agents because we’re not on a label there.

BW: So you are constantly adapting?

BC: I have never really had a problem with that. Where I get pissed off is when it is not about music. When it’s about politics or your mustache or who is in the band. At the end of the day, listen to the music, [and] if you like it, great; if you don’t like it, great. Even if you have shitty reasons not to like it, that’s fine. At least listen to the music and then make that decision. That to me is the only thing I stick on. When people don’t listen to things or don’t give things a chance strictly because of other factors, that is always a bit strange to me. They are basically saying that is not about music, which is weird, right?

Oh, there's another one here, he talks about Oceania, Pumpkins, Courtney and Nirvana...:

“Less than 10 people have heard the record, and the three women who have heard it burst into tears. So I think that’s a good sign,” Corgan says and laughs.

I wonder how they are going to market this album and when it will be officially released. I wonder if they will do b-sides, too.

I thought Billy's book was going to be a spiritual take on his journey through his SP years, which would naturally touch on personal topics. Every time he does an interview explaining the book I get more confused as to what it is supposed to be about.

There is another new interview with the SF Examinar. I will just post it here because it does not seem worth it to start another thread.

Quote

Peter Hook from New Order was just talking about how he first met you as a teenager, pre-Pumpkins. True? Yeah! I met him at a burrito stand in Chicago when I was 19 years old. And he’s a special person, because rare is the musician who can create music of incredibly high aesthetics and understand that it’s not precious, like everybody else wants to make it.

He’s rare like that, and I’ve learned so much from him — that in a weird way, the way you go deeper into the aesthetic is to not be so precious about it.

Assembling these reissues, is it clear to you now, the stylistic quantum leap between “Gish” and “Siamese Dream”? Well, that’s called “fear of poverty.” I found this weird mix of rage, self-expression and fear of poverty, and it vaulted me to the top.

I was so angry at the way we were being treated by the indie world that it really fueled me to embrace my classic-rock roots. It was almost like thumbing your nose at somebody, like, “Oh, we’re not cool enough? Well, here’s some Boston for ya!” And there was a lot of beauty and joy in that.

What are you discovering, digging through your vaults?
Well, it’s kind of healing, you know? It brings back memories, for sure. And it’s one thing to listen to “Siamese Dream” every once in a while, but another to sit there and really pay attention, like, “OK, is this the right mix?” Or “Is this rough mix worth releasing?” And I’ve found some weird making-of-the album stuff, earlier versions of songs like this really schlocky version of “Disarm” where I did what I was thinking on synthesizers.

What’s the theme of “Oceania”? It’s grappling with the existential crisis of “Holy s---! I’m alone!” There’s a sad, dark aspect to that, but also a spiritually enlightened one. Which is, I come into this world as a singular entity and I go through this whole construct finding out what’s valuable. And in the end? I have to know what I’m taking with me.

Oh, the melodrama! :lol:/> Which ex-girlfriend did he claim burst into tears the first time she heard Pomp and Circumstance? I can't remember. Anyway, it was a good sign.

Love Billy and his circus stories. Reminds me of Veiuphoria.

Say me and you were with the circus, and we decide that you know that we need to find the greatest clown in the world. [So] we search the whole world and we find the greatest clown in the whole world, and we actually sign this clown to our circus. The clown shows up to the circus and he is ready to be a great clown and we go, “Oh by the way, now you’re the lion trainer.” And the guy goes, “But I am great clown.”

“Yeah, but we’d really rather have you be a lion trainer.” That is what it feels like.

these days it seems like the record company is looking for a lion tamer and you apply for the job even though you want to be a clown because the lion tamer job pays and then get mad because they make you tame lions.

yeah Pomp wasn't exactly a tear jerker.. I don't trust those kind of hyperbolic reactions. but then again I did tear up when I heard Panopticon so I hope the whole record hits me that hard.

My first reaction to reading that as well.

I think the new songs sound beautiful but they are hardly tearjerkers.

That first interviewer is a total douche. Had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.

Oh, and apparently Sixpence None The Richer were a "phenomenal band"? Right...

Is it good? OK, I'll listen to that one first.

Listen to Oceania (the song). I think you'd like it. (fingers crossed) Heard it for the first time tonight, and am really, really smitten with it...and I'm tempted to jump the gun and throw around words like "masterpiece" and say that it belongs in the hallowed temples and cathedrals shared by the likes of the Somas and the Porcelinas and the Starlas and the (this might be controversial of me) Sea-Illuminating Mary's (that's plural, not possessive, but thought it looked wierd without the apostrophe, and using "ies" turned into a different female name)...but I shouldn't jump the gun, 'cause it's way too soon.

But so far, it sounds pretty damn good to me, and from the rough, premature (very biased) critical thought I've given, seems a very, very solidly written song with a pretty big emotional scope.

And it's not like, say, Astral Planes, where I have my reasons for liking, but I can't there's an undeniable case for its flaws (and many have made it). Oceania seems to have a much more solid foundation and construction, and is much more formidable.

But they'll surely be people who will say it's too long and has sections of aimless noodling and wankery anyway. ;p

probably a stream, but I also think we won't get the entire album before 2012. Like, release a 4-song EP comprising of songs from Oceania or something like that. Or, they release a single to radio, and if you purchase that, you get an extra 3 tracks to complete an EP.

i copyrighting my motherfucking post in case they use these ideas.

We'e only heard mediocre recordings from live songs. I doubt we'll be able to gauge their emotional impact until we hear the studio album.

You were right. I prefer Oceania. :)/>

I'm going to hold back with the Porcelinas, Starlas, and Sea-Illuminating Mary's comparison though. Let's wait for the studio cut, ok? And something about the lyrics is off.

He already said he'd release the ALBUM in November, so we'll get all of it then. And, even if it's a stream, I'm sure it'll be easy for someone to transfer it to files.

It makes no commercial sense to stream in November and sell it in the new year. I'm pretty confident, as has already been said, that we wont hear anything studio from Oceania until 2012.

I love the theme! I'm hoping that the album artwork will reflect on that.
