I'm not sure maybe. I was just interested on what people thought Billy's reasoning for doing that was. Though maybe it's as simple as him doing his own thing like when he purposely misspells words in song titles.

I hear ya. I feel the same way, it was a bit unnecessary. There is an emotional resonance to the song. Though maybe he didn't print out the lyrics and it was someone else who made the decision.

forget the past"
and
"they gave me the keys so i could show you around"
sounds like he is cramming as many notes as he can into those weird lines. :/
It certainly isn't anywhere near Disarm. . lyrically, musically, emotionally.

It's probably about his brother, just like Spaceboy. Read the lyrics and see the connections.
Also he could just be writing a song that connects with people, writers do that ya know. Every song doesn't HAVE to have personal meaning. I'm not saying ot's not either. Like I said...I think it's about his brother.

...I cannot count how many times I've posted this video. It is about his Mom. Enough already. Jesus fuck..

Remember that he said no names would be used for his book to come? And even, if I remember well, that a story could be of many in one? I guess, it is the same for his songs. And you remember also how he uses many layers of his voice in songs? For me, it means many layers of meaning also. So,even if he said it was about his mom, it can be also about other thing. And we could say also, aren't we influenced all our lives about what was our infancy? Aren't we, during all our lives, trying to heal our deep wounds, finding with others the same pattern till we succeed to go beyond? Aren't we finding, with years passing, that we can link to a larger scale what we have knew in our own life? The people around us knowing the same difficulties and hopes. It is not a surprise that we are able to identify ourselves to someonelse's music.

In the Watchmen graphic novel, Pale Horse is a band. The climax of the book takes place at one of their concerts. The name is also a reference to an excerpt from the Bible:
When the lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, Go! I looked, and there was a pale horse! Its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. They were given authority over one-fourth of the earth to kill people using wars, famines, plagues, and the wild animals of the earth.~ Revelation 6:7-8
So the title for the song is a reference to death.

That's where Johnny Cash got the quote from in When The Man Comes Around for sure. He changed it up slightly though. I knew it had to do with that, haha.
In the novel what happened during the climax you were talking about at the concert? I clearly haven't read it. Just seen the movie.

They didn't put it in the movie... but ummm.... this is going to sound bat-shit insane... The "villain" of the novel teleports a giant 100 foot tall-octopus to the dimensional space occupied by Madison Square Garden. It becomes fused with the building and people, killing nearly everyone. God that sounds crazy when you write it out....

Lmao. Interesting, very interesting. An optopus like on the new SP t-shirts?? Haha.
I also thought it was weird that they used Pumpkins for the preview, but not in the movie itself. Oh well.

Why does everyone keep saying there's an octopus on one of the shirts?? It's a piece of coral.

Because, it's an Octopus, and BC has a sticker on his guitar of the very same Octopus. It's also in the Oceania artwork in the cd or vinyl. Can't remember which.
In addition to all this very information reliable information, rumor has it that there are "giant octopi" roaming the waters of the Oceania.
Yeah it's a coral. Lol.

That was the only issue I had with the movie. The ending was still good, but not worthy of the storyline like it was in the gn.
Speaking of crazy. Not to mention that he cloned the brain of a human sensitive (psychic) and implemented it within the development of the beast. Teleporting something living would kill it on impact, as was stated. Yet, the psychic shock that ensued when the creature died was enough to wipe out half of New York. So evil. And yet, I read that Moore stole the ending from some old TV series. Either way, it suits the novel quite well. The whole 'Manhattan' scheme in the ending of the movie always left me uneasy.

I forgot about the whole psychic shock thing. I think the death toll was in the 2 million range.
Man, the movie really sucked solely based on the vast amount they cut out. But then again, to do it right it would have to be a 4 hour movie minimum. It's just one of those things that you just have to read the novel to even have any sense of understanding.
Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Pale Horse is about his mom and death. /thread

I agree to an extent. Physically, he looked eerie as all hell, and that worked well enough for me. My main issue was his voice and demeanor. Way too wimpy and sympathetic sounding. He would have done better with a more robotic, or monotone voice. Even something deeper. Not just, "Oh. Hey. I just washed your car for you. I hope you don't mind." type of shit.
I also did not appreciate how they cut out important details during Rorschach's questioning at the prison by Dr. Long. In the book, you get each and every step leading up to how he became how he was. In the movie, they just have the three inkblots/flashbacks and then he goes straight into what turned him into Rorschach, nothing leading up to it. And the way it is segmented through several sessions in the graphic novel compliments his character. He owes nothing to Dr. Long, he doesn't like him, so why would he give all the info right there?
Sorry. Passion kicking in. Do we have a Watchmen thread? I'm sure if we do it has to be at least two years old.

using death as a theme, it seems possible to apply the lyrics to several of his personal situations, girlfriends and such. to me-i thought there was allusion to the old band. but i don't know.

The song has nothing to do w/ her death, at all. It's actually about the adverse affect of the psychotropic drug, thorazine, and her personality.
Thorazine is the brand name for chlorpromazine(i had to google da spellin', lol), its designated use is to http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/smilies/emot-airquote.giftreathttp://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/smilies/emot-airquote.gif schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions, but it is also used to http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/smilies/emot-airquote.giftreathttp://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/smilies/emot-airquote.gif bi-polarism.
I used quotation around the word treat, b/c I know from personal observations that psychotropic drugs rarely have a +effect on the person presumed to be mentally ill. Sure there are a few people that respond well to treatment, but it is my own opinion, that those responses are a placebo effect, and that persons own will to motivate themselves mentally and emotionally to get better, actually makes them better.
In cases like Martha, where there is nothing wrong w/ the person, and outside influences outnumber and provoke the behavior that caused the things that are being described in the song: the person receiving treatment is in-wardly resistant to the treatments prescribed, and presents no in-ward will to address what others considered abnormal, SO the medications administered have a severe, negative neurological affect on the person being treated, and, effects their over-all personality; which is why the last lyrics of the song are "please come back, pale horse."
Martha wasn't the same person while taking medications, and Billy is pleading she come back to whom she used to be.... /thread
