I think this song is really nice. It's understated...seems bland at first. But I think it's one of those songs that, at some point down the road, you're suddenly struck by how it's brimming with emotional pain, and that it's a total gem, and you're like, "How'd I ever notice this." (For me, that's how This Time, With Every Light, and even Galapagos were. They didn't hit me for a while. In some cases, years.)

But there's one thing I can't get past: the theme, or the hook, or the riff, or whatever you want to call it ... the music that makes up the intro, and recurs a couple more times. Basically, any part without vocals. It's like a Egyptian (or whatever...) phrase bastardized to make a pop song cute. (In trying to make my point, I'm overstating it...it's really not that bad.) It sounds like the bad hook to a bad song (just throw a dart blindfolded) on Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.

there aren't many bad songs on kiss me kiss me kiss me. i'll buy the weakness of all i want, snakepit, shiver and shake and maybe torture. everything else is pretty fucking great.

They are by no means an amazing band, but I do think that My Chemical Romance are given a lot of unnecessary shit. Too many base opinions on singles solely. That record does indeed portray many viles of medical care and cancer. Especially, "Dead", "This Is How I Disappear", "The Sharpest Lives", "Mama", "Disenchanted" and "Famous Last Words".

I like Pale Horse's lyrics more obviously, but I see what you are getting at there. I'm just so happy that Billy has finally come out of hiding and written a song as emotional as this. It isn't quite "Adore" emotion, but certainly close. And certainly more emotionally engaging than say, Zeitgeist. Reminds me of Once In A While for some reason.

While others seem to be hearing "thorazine" occasionally in the chorus, I think that's not accurate. Unless billy's slipping it in there on an irregular basis on this tour. Honestly, though. It would make more sense than "flourescein". Listening to the Paris show in the Archive. Billy's vocals are very clear. better than the USBs from the US show... I made a few changes below to what I'd seen earlier in the thread. One line that i've underlined still doesn't make sense, though.

if i was to listen
i'd turn back
give up all my reasons
forget the past

you think i'd swallow that
bearing weight of ceilings
just to stop and ask

fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein

they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein

they'll be no others
they'll be no long lost friends
empty on the inside
empty on our last pretense
stand by your feeling of an end

so many lives
runaway life
so many lives

if I was to listen
I'd turn back
bear the weight of ceilings
just to stop and ask
but we were not allowed
ominous of a daydream of a cottage abound
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein
fluorescein

they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein

they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long lost friends
caught in the spotlight
running out of last pretense
fixed on a feeling of an end

so many lights
runaway

please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse
please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse

please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse

please come back
please come back
please come back, pale horse

cool, just see your replies now. and then there's our bald friend fronting that band called The Smashing Pumpkins who has been collaborating with David Lynch on numerous occasions... Indeed, too funny to be true... bet we all like our coffee black as the night on a moonless night and hate our coffee with a taste of fresh fish gotten stuck in the percolator (but then again, who doesn't?)

I'm not typically one for lyrics, but "please come back, pale horse" is strong. He's either wishing for the person, taken away by death, to come back... or wishing for death, himself. It's messed up. Good line.

oh so either away he wants us to be depressed as fuck over the lyrics, THANKS BILL

of cours eim just joking, those lyrics are really deep, im not one for lyrics either but theres sometimes i just go "wow thats deep" its especially weird when you notice somethings deep when your on your like 155th listen to a song you got memorized by heart, i didnt do that to pale horse just saying thats happened to me before, but enough about my musical life story back on topic

pale horse is one of those songs where you just stop and think "this is deep"

I think this, Pinwheels and Oceania have the best lyrics of the bunch. MLIW is good, but its simple. Merely works well enough. Quasar is more of a chant type message, and Panopticon bears no meaning for me.

My favorite lines:

"Please come back, Pale Horse."

"You don't deserve me, but I know I deserve you."

"No one can love you, 'cause no one can see you. Lovers can't touch you, 'cause lovers might reach you, yeah..."

Welcome back, Mr. Corgan. :)/>

i dunno man...on Panopticon the line " You,Where are you, Where are you" is pretty powerful, but I think it's how he sings it. I like the song, but it's not as powerful as Pinwheels, Pale Horse and Quasar

it just hit me, mabey its both him wanting death and seeing his mom come back, he wants to see her so much that he wants death to come to him and take him to see her again

If I could be so bold as to offer what Corgan may have been intending; I'd say he'd encourage the duality of the lyric. It's meant to be ambiguous.

this song is definitly about losing someone. i don't think this one is about his mom though. i think its about losing someone to mental illness. flurazine is an anti-pyschotic medicine. it also sounds like he throws in a thorozine in the lyrics every now and them. it makes more sense in the context of the lyrics that flourescein. not every sad song he's written since adore has to be about his mother.

What sense does that make? I know English isn't your first language though, so forgive me if I'm being rude.

I am certain he sings, "Our run away lives". Think about it. What happens when you lose a loved one or your family experiences a comparable tragedy? Your life runs away from you. Literally. It may come back with time (meaning you get over it), but at that moment it legitimately feels like everything is falling to pieces. "Stand by your feeling of an end."

Oceania could suck and I'd still love him again for this beauty of a song. The lyrics are so hauntingly touching. :)/>

Sorry, I meant it to be "so many laughs" because the version here in this thread is "so many lights". And for the "I run away life" I meant "run away life" without the "I" or maybe "A/Our runaway life".

You can hear it better here, it's from the Paris show:

ALMOST FIXED One word I can't figure out.

if i was to listen
i'd turn back
give up all my reasons
forget the past
you think i'd swallow that
bearing weight of ceilings
just to stop and ask

fluorescein

they'll be no long lost friends
empty on the inside
empty on our last pretense
stand by your feeling of an end

so many lives
runaway life
so many lives

When they locked you up
you shut me out
gave me the keys
so I could show you round
we were not allowed
omens of a daydream
but ______ you're bound

fluorescein
fluorescein

they give you this
they take away that
fluorescein

they'll be no rallies
they'll be no long lost friends
caught in the spotlight
running out of last pretense
fixed on a feeling of an end

so many lights

please come back
please come back, pale horse

Knowing that it's about his mom, I see a lot of people talking the lyrics in relation to her cancer but it seems broader than that, more like the entire loss of his mother over his entire life. When he was little, she was institutionalized for awhile, "when they locked you up they shut me out", the beginning of this absence of his mother from his life. And then years later, when they are reconnecting, the cancer takes her away from him again.
