i've just checked my vinyl copy of gish and it doesn't have any pops at the beginning of siva.

have you played your copy on a different record player? dunno. it seems weird that you tried two different copies and they both have those pops.

I do have kind of a low end player, but it plays all my other vinyls fine, and the rest of the album sounds like I would expect a vinyl to sound. Don't have easy access to another player but if I get the chance I will try a different player.

it's probably not that. it seems unlikely. but it's worth a try.

i have had that with my cd player, that's why i thought of it. it will play everything fine, but then with one specific cd, it will always skip at the same place. if i play that cd in another cd player - an old one that will skip on everything with a bit of a scratch, really - it plays fine.

maybe your vinyl is really broken. some sort of production error. and maybe you got it replaced with a copy that was pressed just before or after your original copy, which is why the same error is present.
where did you buy it? any chance they have a record player there? if they do have a record player, bring your copy and play it to them. if the pops are gone, your record player is to blame. if the pops are still there, they can't refuse you another replacement. (keep testing the copies they give you on their record player until it's fine.)
this is a fairly expensive record. you shouldn't settle for a copy with pops.

Apparently I can't PM you. Lol. So, Ill just post what I was about to send you here.
I have appreciated your more sensible input into the SP-related forums as of late. I tend to avoid dramatic involvement in the gen boards, but word is you have quite the reputation out there. ;)/>
Anyway, it's been surprisingly refreshing to see you interact with fans and helping them out with their vinyl issues, looking for info on the reissues, etc.
So, ya, thanks for that.

I'm loving the Gish re-issue. Finally cracked it open today. Currently listening to "Seam", the "Suffer" demo. Definitely even more psychedelic than what ended up on Gish or at least to me it seems that way :p/>. I'm assuming the 2011 mixes for all the Pisces songs will be different than the mixes that will end up Pisces, just as the Starla one was distinctly different.

I'm curious about the remixes of the previously released tracks on the bonus disc. I haven't done side by side comparisons but they sound pretty much the same as the earlier released versions. Are there any significant differences?

I believe these are the tracks that were previously released but I may have made some mistakes:

Starla
Honeyspider
Plume
La Dolly Vita

There were other previously released tracks but I believe the above four are the only ones that are listed as being different mixes. I think someone pointed out that the vocal effects on "Plume" are missing on this version. I read some negative opinions about the remix "Starla" but it sounds fine to me.

the solo in starla is completely different, it sounds like they took one of the overdubs and delayed it so you get that weird wave effect. but to me it sounds really 'tin can-y' and i'm not happy with it.

i never really liked honeyspider but this version had changed my mind completely. i don't know if the other versions just didn't sound that great or what but this one rules.

Yikes, I really need to start paying better attention, I thought it was just a slightly different mix. :what:/>

That's unusual, can't remember anyone else reporting that

ha, yeah, every note from that solo is ingrained into me since it was originally released in 94. srs bsns. the rest of the song is a slight improvement though i think.

This may be my favourite of the three bonus discs. I was kind of late getting into the Pumpkins (my first album was Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness circa Christmas 1996) and I don't think I heard Gish until after Adore. It was always my least favourite of their albums from the first era (1990-2000). But with the reissue, and in particular the bonus disc, I have really changed my opinion about Gish. It is probably still my least favourite but since I got the reissue I like it so much more than I did in the past. I don't know if it has been hearing the demos/alternate versions but something clicked and I finally feel like I "get" the album. It is probably a cliché to use the word "psychedelic" when describing it but I think it fits. There is a very cool vibe during this era, maybe lightheartedness and fearlessness, that they kind of lost on later albums. That isn't to say that the later albums are in any way inferior but maybe a bit more serious than the first one.

We have already received quite a bit from the early years but I hope that more material is considered for release. Surely many fans would scoop up an official release of the early demos?

I'd love it if they released all those old songs/demos that didn't make the cut for the Gish bonus disc. Not Worth Asking (by no means rare) is one that I really want to see get remastered. But there are so many others that need to see the light of day, there could truly be another 3-4 CDs released from that era or more.

I don't think we'll ever see the whole b-sides output originally put out by EMI. IF anything else comes out after the reissues campaign, it'll probably be handled by BC.
