I would be interested to hear all of Zeitgeist without vocals and hear how much better it is.. Anyone else ever thought this or am I just hopelessly insane? :jackyl:/>

Zeitgeist just needs better vocal mixing. Get Butch Vig to make his harsh vocals listenable and drive them down in the mix. There's a good album to be made from big Z. It's not just the vocals that drag it down; there are too many stinkers. That's The Way, Starz, United States, God & Country, Tarantula, Doomsday Clock, Death From Above and Pomp & Circumstance are all good to great.

I'd agree, though I prefer other songs to some you listed.

Stellar, Zeitgeist, 7 Shades, and Orchid are all good songs as well, they just need better mixing as you said.

The main issue I have with Z is how good it COULD HAVE been, had he only taken slightly altered avenues. Could have been a legitimately powerful album. Instead, it came off as rather toothless and unoffensive.

That said, (Come ON) Let's Go! and Bring The Light are horrid no matter which way you look at it. Sorry.

Oh yeah, d'oh. Orchid is one of my favourites, easily.

i feel as if billy were to replace the voice tracks with ones he sang now and got nichole and mike to do backing vocals instead of overlapping his voice the album could have been that much better, that said i still very much enjoy the album as it is

Those are my two favorites after Stellar. lol.
HU was right. Zeitgeist is a decent record because everyone agrees that they like a song or three, but always disagree which ones they are.

Agreed. I think the majority of people felt the same way about Billy's robotic vocals/the Billys doing backing vocals. I wasn't a fan of the production either. Flood or Butch would have been great.

And don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Z for what it is. It just had a lot more potential to be great rather than just good.

Also, I'm still confused how Death From Above and Zeitgeist didn't make the cut and were only on the bonus editions. Such good songs.

snail33 is a legend. His brute disregard for others and insistence on his own opinion is what heros are made of.

if i disregard others, it's only because it's been done to me for a lifetime.

yep. i don't much like the new stuff. some of the oceania sounds promising but it's really hard to tell without a studio recording. why does it bother you that i think the music bc is making these past few years isn't that good?

I don't see why people are all about Mike and Nicole on backing vocals. I like overdubbed Billy. Overdubbed Billy made the Mellon Collie era. It's just that if you're going to have 5 voices, they all have to be into it, and not sound like a dying cow. But that should be true of Billy's vocals in general. That said, I don't mind Nicole doing backing vocals, but the harmonies on Zeitgeist are definitely suited to an all-Billy situation. They just need to be done more passionately.

i dont have a problem with you putting in criticism but your bordering on 100% cynical, thats my problem, even when you compliment something you just use it as a chance to rag on something else, im not saying change your opinion but for once just say something positive that doesnt just whiplash something else, like you think oceania sounds promising then say that on the topics for it, thats a positive thing

Since M1 and M2 are getting remixed, maybe there'll be a Z remix in 2014?

highly doubt it. the machina remixing (if it happens) would be to put out the album how it would have been as a 2-disc set. there really wouldn't be any point to remixing zeitgeist.

especially since billy is pretty much blacklisting zeitgeist's existence, only time he acknowledges it anymore is if hes bashing it. I still like to dream that it one day will get a remix and re-recorded vocal tracks but that will never happen, I think its got about as much a chance of happening as james and billy becoming friends again.
