Kind of surprised there isn't a thread about this yet. Pretty huge news, I wonder what happened? :shocked:/>

Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins break with producer Kerry Brown
11:00 am // Friday, December 9, 2011

Rock producer Kerry Brown has announced that he is no longer working with the Smashing Pumpkins.

Multiple sources tell HU that Pumpkins ringmaster Billy Corgan informed several associates of a split between himself and Brown early in November, with Corgan saying to one friend blogger that there will be “no relationship moving forward” between Brown and the band.

The break between Corgan and Brown came only weeks after the two shared a stage at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, when Brown’s band Catherine joined Corgan to perform two songs during an encore at a Smashing Pumpkins concert on October 14.

Brown has worked extensively on Corgan’s Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project, directed the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club during its infancy this year, mixed bonus tracks for the recent reissues of the Pumpkins albums Gish and Siamese Dream, played drums with the Corgan-led supergroup Spirits in the Sky during 2009, and co-produced the Pumpkins track “Superchrist” in 2008, among many other activities. For a time, Brown also helped operate the Pumpkins’ official Twitter account—but now, Brown and Corgan are no longer even following each other on Twitter.

maybe this involves Billy getting an offer from a label and for that he would not need Kerry as much at that point. It was a helping of each other to move forward with their careers.

Kerry did a lot of great things for the band and for us fans. I appreciate all the great work and wish him well in his next adventure.

Certainly not Kerry's career. I'm not one of the people that is saying this is the best news for SP because the parting of friends is always a sad thing, but this is definitely not good for Kerry's career.

strange move. I hope it wasn't a whole lot of drama that led to this. I mean wasn't billy living at Kerry Brown's house for months in the last few years.

how so? They worked together and many bands are aware of this and may choose to have KB produce their music now. Media makes more into things. His twitter didn't say anything much beyond he no longer works for the Pumpkins and not following one another is a nice way to get the tweeter stalkers to notice and begin speculations for the media to report...drama in the news creates ATTENTION!

also didn't Billy's little stunt with devi ever do her some good?

This is Not Good. Isn't Brown the guy that was moving the SPRC along???

I question the future of the re-issues and the SPRC.

I realize that many of the fans did not like some of his production work with the pumpkins, but he did do a lot for the fan community and it is going to be missed. Starla remix aside, I thought he did a good job on the re-issues.

What does Kerry have to do with Billy choosing the style of music he wants to play? It is not like Kerry forced him into a room and made him play synths all day.

so is it fair to say that because he was involved int he early works of SP recordings that it only makes sense for him to be involved in the reissues that have been released? And whoever the masters of MCIS will be working with SP for those?

Back on topic, and I'm surprised no one has pointed this out yet, but it's pretty obvious why Billy parted ways with Kerry: It was Kerry's idea to have Fancy Space People tour with SP.

Good luck to you Kerry.

Was Kerry much more involved with the works of recent pumpkins music that I thought? It seems like an awful lot of posters are pointing the finger to Billy's poor musical output on Kerry. I do not think much of anything could have saved some of those Teargarden songs. Another scapegoat? I cannot help but feel that his role in the music direction has been over-exaggerated.

A lot of the songs were just not good songs, and let's not forget everyone has been complaining about production quality since Zeitgeist, which I don't think Kerry actually did any work on.
I don't know why people think Billy's songwriting is magically going to get better just because someone else is producing and mixing it.
Or why anyone thinks Billy would just let Kerry go mix things and then release them without them getting the Billy stamp of approval first.
