It is a cool collectible. Better than spending $5000 on ebay for the original.

Now how long until we get people coming around bitching that their original will be worthless? It happens every time. Selfish bastards.

I could care less, I could never afford the original. This is cool enough for me :p/>.

i don't think that will happen. i didn't hear anyone complain when earphoria was re-released. (maybe i missed that.)
and i don't agree that re-releasing the demo tape "the smashing pumpkins" or "moon" would make the original copies devaluate. they'll still be as rare as they were, and the re-released copies will be virtually worthless, no matter how well they try to reproduce them. and it's not like the availability of the songs will change. they're already all over the internet.
i personally don't really care about a reproduced demo cassette. it's a fun idea, but it's only cool for about ten seconds. then it's just a tape, made in 2012, that will most likely sit there.
now, i'm not really a tape person to begin with, and to me, the only cool thing about them is the fact that you know they come from another era, that they're really old, and that they survived. they kind of take you back a couple of decades. (i've got this light into dark promotional cassette, for example. that one is well old, and i even believe it's the first (non-home made) official release the pumpkins appeared on. it's still just a cassette, but in a way, it's cool.)
if you're going to start making new cassettes in 2012, none of that remains. then it's just a cassette made in 2012, which is pretty weird.
on the other hand, i do think a reproduced demo tape is a better than a mini obelisk. just to say that it isn't the worst thing ever.

i don't think pisces iscariot is underrated. many people love it.
and yes, we'll see what this reissue brings. the digital release might very well include all tracks.

Personally the tape thing is a really cool legacy idea. Tapes are no longer common place anymore but this will remind us of the time and era in which it originally came out. I think it might have little listening value (because let us be honest, the large majority may never listen to it and the smaller majority will mostly wait for a clean rip of the tape to digital format and listen to it that way). But as far as historic value it’s through the roof.

I think billy said the tape will be a bonus only int he deluxe edition. So you probably wont get those tracks digitally.
so this news makes me wonder: It sounds like the pre-gish box was cancelled and consolidated into the pisces box. But does anyone think we will still get a "proper" pisces bonus disc? And a "proper" pisces dvd? I mean, when you look at pisces, a show from 88 and the band's first demo tape wouldnt be expected as the unreleased material. I hope we still get the pisces bonus disc. When you look at the redundancy of the gish and siamese bonus discs, I have hoped the the pisces bonus disc was where most of the ACTUALLY unreleased stuff would show up. What do yall think?

why do people want vinyl? don't tell me it's because the sound is so much better. i don't see it. not enough of a difference for the extra money, anyway.
also, to everybody - the debate over whether or not PI is an album....
I say album shmalbum. Whether or not people call it an album or a "b-sides collection", it's still a cd with a bunch of songs on it that represent a certain artistic perspective. Good enough for me.

If we can't listen to these songs without buying out of date equipment, then I don't see the point. I will, however, still buy it.
Also, a demo tape from 1988 attached to a collection of 1991-1993 material? That seems odd. I would rather have had remastered b-sides from the Gish-SD eras that didn't end up on those reissues. But maybe that's still happening...I mean, we're getting Glynis...maybe that's just part of a separate bonus CD with extra tracks? If so, I'll be very much more encouraged.

good call on the glynis thing. To me, that indicates that there will be a proper pisces bonus disc.

Agreed, although the sole reason I said that was because I've seen people do it before. Its ridiculous, really. It won't detract the value, but some legitimately fear that it will. :shrug:/>

I own a record player and hate that they get away with selling records for over twenty. I'd only pay over twenty for a show or rare demo that never made it to cd/tape from a band like pink floyd. I love that it's also a good reason to listen to one album. Such a pain to have to put them away after only one listen.

i guess one could call pisces iscariot a compilation album. i don't see how anyone can disagree with that.
gish could be called a studio album.
it's a bit pointless to have big arguments about what is an album and what isn't. it depends on the "album" definition you're using. you can go with album = studio album, or with the wider definition of album = studio or compilation or live album, for example.

Unless you HAVE to wait for someone to rip the cassette to mp3 (no official digital release), then I don't see the problem with the whole tape idea. Personally, I love tapes and have many. The cassette format allows you to relax, not have to worry about skipping tracks, (although it happens) and enjoy some music that you may not have otherwise had the patience to check out. After years of listening to music digitally, most will probably find that tapes (records too) are a very refreshing way to listen to music. Hopefully this becomes a trend for future Pumpkins releases, perhaps releasing a tape by itself not attached to another product, that would be very cool. Who knows, maybe tapes will make a comeback... :shocked:/>
