Why not? They released Honeyspider and Not Worth Asking as a bonus 7" with PI. Also, La Dolly Vita is technically pre-Gish. The PI&F tape also had pre-Gish material on it...

What exactly is PI? The best of all the non-album tracks up until 1994 (in the eyes of Corgan anyways). That doesn't automatically exclude the pre-Gish stuff, but it does say much about what Corgan thought about it all as of 1994. I would probably feel the same.

well, that's just stupid. why don't i get my neighbor to write something up for them? he wasn't in the band either.

Because your neighbor isn't a writer. And neither is anyone else who was mentioned.

You do not have to be a writer by trade to know how to write and write well. The liner notes he wrote were not great by any means.

ok, true. but ill be honest, i was really hoping for a special pre-gish box set. I still consider it to be better than anything else SP did before MCIS

So, does this mean that the cassette will ONLY come with the Record Store Day release? hmmmm... :scatch:/>

The woman in charge of it (Laura, I think her name is) said they're mulling around different things to potentially do, which might include limited run physical releases of shows and possibly some jewelry, or something to that effect. She also has said they would use a Kickstarter-like program to gauge demand before manufacturing them. Beyond that, nothing else has been said.

wasn't that from an interview from months ago? or am i confusing this with something else?
also, i don't consider that news. it's meaningless.

it's not too late yet, but they should get moving, or they'll lose all the speed they collected during those first weeks.
just release something. hell, even another free track could keep things going for a bit longer, if they really need time.
fucking hell, all this thinking. i don't get it. isn't that what the last guy used to do? weekly emails from the archives? long discussions about the one and only holy distribution model for the sp archives' content? and then, BLOP!, the pudding collapsed. jesus fucking christ.

It could very well be from a while ago. I honestly don't remember. It didn't really say anything so I didn't really put much behind remembering it.

you know you could look at the SPRC record club, the archives and, TBK singles and see a pattern of inconsistency. Bad business!

This is like when the Academy told me I must appreciate a silent film above all over films in the year 2011.

Oh, ok.

i love you for saying this.

also, i was mad that none of the actors in that movie look like silent film actors at all!!!! why doesn't it any of it look aesthetically like an old b&w?!?!?!?! camera angles, yes, from what i can tell, but nothing else. not that i've seen it, but they could have really done something with it.

The Artist was fantastic regardless of sound or not, and the story was a fairly accurate portrayal of the struggles silent stars faced with the transition to talkies. Gets 5/5 from me.

It would have been cooler if he'd offed himself. I wouldn't have cared, honestly. The man simply couldn't express himself.

Would have been cool if it were called "The Cleaner". A story about a top end Assassin, sent in to clean other peoples messes up. awwww yeahhhhh.

Why not? Why does it matter? Do people really care that the man they chose to write the notes is a writer/critic for Rolling Stone? If the person writes well and can beautifully and articulately convey the importance of the music and the band (or whatever it is that Billy is looking for) then I do not see what the problem is. I know a number of people who write beautifully, in their spare time or as a hobby, yet it is not their established profession. There are many reasons why people shy away from the art of writing as a profession and it has little to do with a lack of talent. Being a writer by trade does not make one an "expert" or more knowledgeable in the trade.

His writing is not terrible. He is a critic and he obviously has knowledge of music and its history. However, I think it would have been interesting to see what someone would have written who had a close connection to the band and their music. Any of those people I listed could very well be good writers. I do not know. It was just an idea that I threw out there.

Nevertheless, back on topic. I liked what Bob did for the first two discs and I was hoping he would remaster the other discs as well. I hope Howie also does a great job. I did not like Billy's liner notes when I first read them (I have warmed up to them, yet I much prefer the webisodes) but I hope he provides some insights into each song like he did on the first two remasters. I am looking forward to it. Now, if only we could get a release date.

He (Bob) did the job in the "new" Glynis... maybe he's working in the album too.

Is he? If Howie only masters the bonus disc then that leaves Bob to master the main disc? That sounds good.

Howie Weinberg. He mastered practically all of the pumpkins releases up until Machina. He also mastered Billy's solo record. He also mastered a lot of other famous big 90s albums (like Nirvana's Nevermind).

I have nothing against Howie, but I love what Bob did with the remasters.

what's the difference between a mastering guy and a producer guy?

I feel so uneducated about such things.

I am by no means well educated on the subject at all. Maybe someone else can chime in. From my understanding, I believe the producer helps guide the direction and sound of the album/songs. The mastering guy polishes up the finished product by adjusting the levels, etc. and ensuring that the sound of its parts is cohesive with the whole.

Indeed. The producer is present throughout the actual recording of the album, sometimes doubling as the engineer (the person physically recording the material), while the mastering person is given the final recordings (already mixed) and polishes it up (ie: makes sure all the volume levels are consistent, etc).
