One question a day concerning SP releases A good way to stay entertained while waiting for next SP releases

I have to practice a little more though since one of my best friends recently moved to Ghent and I'm planning on visiting him in the near future.
I have other questions but I'm higly busy at the moment (yes sadly sometimes I have to work to earn money to spend on SP stuff and concert tickets).
I think I'll post something tonight when I'm done with my current tasks.
Anyway am I the only one here with questions concerning SP releases?

I own this DVD which can be found in each and every FNAC store.
It is said to be a live recording of a concert that was held in Tokyo on June 30th 2000.
(Note that the picture doesn't correspond at all to the line up in 2000, Melissa and not D'arcy was indeed performing that night as stated on the back cover...)
http://i41.tinypic.com/mae5pi.jpg
First question: Is this copy legit since there is apparently no official recording of the gig? I'm also asking this because the image and sound of the video are awful..
Second question: is it really the same recording as this DVD: here and below (still not the good line up on the cover, this time were are in 2008 and Ginger is here!)
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31LsIB6R2BL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Is it also the same recording as this one here which is said to last 110min whereas mine lasts 85min?
In brief my question should probably be: how many versions of this concert do exist, are they all the same and is there one of those releases which is in high quality?

i kind of wonder how these bootlegs end up in big stores like fnac or saturn. are those labels doing something illegal, or did they somehow acquire the rights to release these recordings? and if it's illegal, do these stores know about it, or have they been fooled? i don't know.
if you say the sound and image are awful, i guess they just used a source they found online. this show was aired on tv, and different recordings were made off tv.
check out this page for a list of known recordings: http://www.splra.org...e=Tsp2000-06-30
did they use the same source for both dvds? i don't know. and i don't really care. bootlegs aren't my thing.
note that the 110 minute recording contains interviews. that might explain the difference in time.
best recording? no idea. check zomb torrents, and get the best dvd for free? here's one: http://zombtracker.t...ils.php?id=4829 it doesn't look too amazing though.

the back of the adore single inserts have "extra artwork", but it's just vague black pictures. i'll post a picture soon.
the back of the that's the way single insert is just plain white. (haha! on a commercial single. so poor they couldn't afford any artwork for the back of the front insert.)
i guess i could now go and check all promos, but that would take me too far.
For some reason I had this promo single of Ava Adore in my hands today, and noticed that the back of the cover is blank :(/>.

I have some difficulties in identifying this object.
http://i41.tinypic.com/v7fxac.jpg
It is obviously a promo CD of the everlasting gaze;
I first thought it was a UK release because I think Clyde Radio is an English radio station but the Virgin logo is not blue…
The matrix code looks like this :
74PM10288
And a code is written in the central translucent part of the CD:
PK924B0316174
My guess is that it is the Australian release but do you concur?
I also wonder if the number gives a hint of the quantity pressed or is just some kind of reference?

i think it's a uk copy. the matrix code and the "radio clyde" sticker point in that direction.
some copies must've been made with black and white copies of the insert.
the number has to be some reference number used by that "radio clyde music library". this doesn't teach us anything about this promo. if anything, it allows you to make a guess about how many items were in the music library by the time they added this promo.

I only have copies of this album in 2CD jewel cases and I'm wondering if there are some extra inserts in the copies within thick multi-CD boxes.
I've seen things printed on what seemed to be brown cardboard inserts. Is it the booklet, some extra stuff, anything interesting...?

Other releases that come in fat boxes are the Canadian and the Japanese.
Now if we look at the Japanese release of MCIS, there's also an extra insert. It's folded to booklet size. It contains a lot of Japanese. Also, if you bought one of the first copies of MCIS, the cd box also contained a sticker. I believe that's the story behind the sticker. And I also think that the red text in the blue box on the obi strip tells the buyers about this sticker. (Releases without the sticker don't have this red text on the obi strip. See this one for an example without sticker: http://www.spfreaks....DETAILS&item=53)

I just checked spfreaks.com a bit more and it is as I thought. This is what the text in the red box says: "including original sticker exclusively for the first pressing of japanese edition!!"
http://www.spfreaks....TAILS&item=2305
about that japanese extra insert: all sp albums come with this. even the most recent gish and siamese dream reissues. i believe it contains an introduction to the band and their history, and also a japanese (phonetic?) interpretation of the english lyrics.

Consequently my question
Which ones of the SP releases were distributed in Japan (or in other specific countries) with additional tracks on them?
(And why the hell are japanese people always granted with those kind of goodies and not us?)
(This being said goodnight everyone, I'm physically and mentally exhausted!)

- siamese dream (pissant)
- adore (once in a while)
- machina (speed kills - shorter version)
- zeitgeist (death from above)
i believe that's it.
the purple and yellow zeitgeist released in the US and in germany also had a bonus track. and that silver one had a couple.
the reason why japan "always" gets bonus tracks is because for some reason (i don't really know the reason), the price of japanese cds is quite high. so high that it would probably be cheaper to import the same cd from anywhere else than to buy the japanese cd. so they add bonus tracks to a lot of japanese cds in order to convince people in japan to buy the japanese version.
it's not a pumpkins thing; it's a japan thing.

Yeah I had already noticed that it was a much more general thing but never understood why (I must admit I'm not very familiar with prices in yens.). I guess the cost of the CDs is a good explanation and sounds fair.
I'm very jealous that on the japanese version of Adore though because the track 17 is on the 17th position.
Today's question is going to be a very silly one and has probably been debated various times but... Does that pianist named Chris Martin which appear in the booklets of several MCIS era relases (ex: My blue heaven on the 33 n°2 single) has anything to do with.. you know who...

about this shorter edit of speed kills:
the version of speed kills on the japanese cd release of machina is shorter than the full version that appears on the following releases: machina vinyl, siyl promo 12", siyl cd single.
as far as i know, the japanese machina cd is the only place where this shorter edit can be found.
but if we look at the sticker on the stand inside your love promo 12", we can see it lists a 3:23 edit of "speed kills".
however, this release contains the full 5:21 version of the song!

Ooh ohh, well spotted. Not an easy one to find!
Let's talk a little bit about litterature today, and more precisely about this book called "Chants magnétiques" by BC and Claire Fercack. I know Billy's part were translated from english to french for this release but I wonder if there ever was an english version of this book?

i don't think there is an english translation on the market, and i don't think there ever will be one.
also, i don't really know much about this book, but did billy contribute anything more than an introduction? i have no idea.
this is the best i can do. i might be right, but in the end, it's just a guess. pretty worthless in a thread for facts and factoids.
just like you're not the exclusive question asker per se in this thread, i guess i'm not the exclusive answer giver either.
maybe someone else, with more subject knowledge, can give a proper answer to the question?

It is actually constructed as an inmaginary dialogue between two mythological characters Medea, who is actually Billy and talks with rimes, and Echo, who is Claire and talks in prose. (Billy being Echo would have been...huh... weird!). Billy's part are consequently substantial in that book and were translated by Nathalie Bru.
On the other end, there is this little book called "The tarantula boxset" by Claire Fercack which tells us the story of a girl which falls into TAFH boxset and refuses to go out of it as she feels comfortable with living in an imaginary world with the characters of the songs (<- really low-quality summary, there are of course several levels of understanding in that book but that's the general idea). In this book Billy only wrote the introduction (which by the way I hated for some reason I can't tell you here).

If I remember well it is quite short though, something like two pages, so maybe something not really too hard to get into if you know a little french (and I know you do ;)/>).
PS: sorry for the permanent mispelling of Claire's name. It is Fercak and not Fercack.

did he just sign it? did he feel weird about it? did he mention that he hasn't got much to do with adore?

I would have never had the guts to ask Jimmy to sign this particular item though, even if he covered several of the Adore songs later on. Probably because there's nothing funny about the reason why he did not record this album. It's a question of respect regarding his personal life and regarding the work of the other drummers who recorded the album. All proportions aside, it reminds of me the this "Double fantasy" vinyl signed by J. Lennon which was sold thousands of dollars because the inscription was dedicated to this particular fan who would become his murderer a few hours later. When you first see the item you think "how ironic, I want that" but then you think about it and you start wondering "meh, do I really want that?" "No" is indeed the right answer.

I dunno, it might have been a good way to break the ice re: a conversation about his interpretations of the Adore songs on later tours, or the mythical "Adore with Jimmy" recordings. If he'd left and never returned, then it would be really stupid and inappropriate, but he played these songs a hell of a lot once he was back in the band, so I shouldn't think it was that weird for him. Having said that, I doubt I could ask him to sign it without offering a small apology at the very least.
