Anyone else surprised they're headlining over Jack White?

They're not. Jack White is the main headliner according to their main poster..

Triple j is recording and broadcasting the festival. Not sure if the Pumpkins' gig will get a guernsey or not..

I know i have given Billy a hard time about some of his decisions and choices over the past few years - but playing Splendor in the Grass is definitely one of his best decisions in a long time. Its THE best festival in Australia & is the kind of gig that can make or break your career in this country.

Here is hoping that Billy plays a generous amount of hits, alongside the best of Oceania & the psychedelic gems like Starla. I personally think he could make a massive impact for the band in Australia with this gig - but he needs to bring his absolute "A" game. No rants. No dodgy singing ( ie not like the album ). No long guitar "noodling" or Gossamer like takes - this is the stage to show a generation how good you are, not how creative or avant garde he can be.

I see no reason why this couldn'e be the start of something great for the band in Australia - but his participation in doing so is absolute paramount. This festival attracts the hipest of the hipster - young and old - and their opinions and word of mouth reviews can sink any band in Australia.

Yep, he has to chose the set well for this particular show. It could kill any credibility remaining with the band at this current time. The side shows on the other hand, he can do whatever he wants. I for one am looking forward to 0@sh in full with the light show and shit.

Not that this is related, but I saw Devo (opening act was Flock of Seagulls) on Halloween of 2006. SUCH A GOOD SHOW!

It must be to do with the light show and other theatrics.
I'm pretty sure Festival Hall wasn't even sold out in 2010..

The Pumpkins made headlines with their festival closing set at Splendour. From the news/reviews and twitterverse it looks like it was universally praised by fans/critics and the general public. Massive points for the pumpkins in Australia!

Not a bad festival setlist. I wish they would drop Black Diamond in favor of one of their own songs, but it is still a good setlist.
