From this interview with BC:

Quote

I think it's really cool that the official Oceania tour starts in Australia. Our Australian fans will be the first to hear it and see what we're gonna do. We're working with the guy who's been working with Roger Waters on The Wall - he's doing the graphics for our tour. We're gonna have a really interesting stage show. It's more of an experiential thing than just us getting up and playing with a bunch of bright lights.

Is..is he talking about Gerald Scarfe? A more conceptual, "Floydian" stage show sounds great, but Gerald Scarfe? If this is true my mind is completely blown.

Sean Evans is the person he's namedropped before.

I'm incredibly psyched for digital mapping/projection technology to be used for the upcoming tour. I have seen amazing things done with this technology and would love, more than anything, to see SP use it during their shows.

If it's anything like what they've been doing with The Wall, it'll be one hell of a show.

The difference is that the Pumpkins shows aren't conceptual. They don't have a theme, or some sort of visual narrative. Apparently Oceania is different. I'm interested to know what the album will look like visually. Not to mention that I wouldn't mind seeing some final cover artwork.

only difference between this and the Wall tour is that, the Wall tour seems to be staged at large venues, much larger than what SP has been doing. So who knows if the same visual approach will be conveyed effectively at small venues, that or SP is going to start touring larger venues.

Also, here we are only talking about visuals, probably protected videos. I think the following link shed some light on what we may expect, since it talks about Sean Evans' work on The Wall Tour in particular, rather than The Wall Tour in general.

Well obviously not that flashy since that is electronic music and the Pumpkins play rock... But a set up like that but with visuals for progressive, alternative rock.

agreed. that's why i'm curious to see whether the venues will be bumped up a size or two to accomodate a larger marketing presence to warrant the new tour backdrops.

Only if they think they can sell out the venues. Billy was pretty clear about this in that hourlong interview he did with Monte. Oceania has to do well to have the full big tour.

I think part of the issue is a lack of promotion? I don't know... For example, Bon Jovi's Circle album didn't really sell well, by any means, yet they still toured arenas and stadiums.

Oceania can go platinum, but if BC refuses to front the costs of booking larger venues + the upfront costs of promotion, then they'll be touring 2000 seat places. I think the main difference is, SP doesn't have a label backing them on touring. I assume when SP first came back in 07, Warner was backing their tour, and was paying the costs of promotion and bookings, because I think the places they played 5 years ago was much larger than what they were touring in 2010 and 2011.

Let's not kid ourselves, though, Bon Jovi is much more of a household name than SP ever was. Not saying that that's how it should be, but it's true.

Good point about the booking situation. But we don't know what their legal situation or what EMI or whoever else has contracted with them re: touring is.

I think the bigger issue is Oceania going big enough to even be able to sell out those types of venues.

Is that a Pink Floydesque circular video screen, or is that some type of sphere?

I saw the wall live back in may. And if I wasn't such a ridiculously huge and bias Pumpkins fan, I would say that the wall live was the best show I had ever seen hands down. It is the best non-Pumpkins show I've ever seen. It was simply amazing. Adding anything from that to a Pumpkins show will equal a badass Pumpkins overload. Haha.

Seriously though, it's gonna be awesome.
