I thought this song deserved a thread. Apparently it's the first new SP song since Oceania and it was played in Mexico live a couple days ago.

There's no vid I can find yet. I'm hoping someone will post it here as soon as they find/create it.

Apparently it's a heavy/metal-ish song. This would seem to jibe with BC's statement that the next SP album will be "brutal". I'm guessing he regrets backing off his original plan to have Zeitgeist be that kind of record.

....Zeitgeist was brutal-ish. I am surprised that nothing's surfaced yet for a recording. It was a huge show as far as I understand...

Zeitgeist was heavy in sound but not in spirit. Take "7 Shades of Black"... it's more bombastic than almost any old SP song. So why does it sound about a third as dangerous as something like "Marquis in Spades"? Because the energy isn't really there. It was a facade.

Now Billy has a lot more to be actually emotionally upset about, with his treatment in the time since SP came back, and the fact that his personal life has seen its ups and downs. I think we could see some of that real danger come back into the music.

Well the production kind of made it sound flat too.

Dangerous music is great. But emotional danger is better. ZG was just heavy not dangerous (U.S. excluded. It is anger at its best)

Hope they play Black Sunshine in Chicago!

Agreed. I would be pleased with a cd full stuff like as Rome
Burns, zero, tales of a scorched earth, aeroplane, ode to no one, gossamer, heavy metal machine, dross, lucky 13, white spider, cash car star, united states, 7shades, quasar..Throw in a few blessed mothers and make it happens

if he can still heavy it up, why not go for it then? plus it could be his last KICK YOUR ASS music forever as the man only gets older and could ruin his vocals chords

I don't think Zeitgeist was really heavy at all. I don't really get this "it's such a dark brutal album" stuff.

I can name a bunch of original SP songs that are heavier. "Bodies", "The Everlasting Gaze", "X.Y.U.", "Dross", "God", etc.

On the Mohs Scale of Rock and Metal Hardness, Zeitgeist isn't very high, IMO. And I certainly don't understand people citing "7 Shades of Black" as an example of its heaviness when the song is more of an upbeat, fun song. I mean, I can understand someone making a case for "Doomsday Clock", but even that...

Maybe it's all relative, depending on what other kinds of music you're familiar with. Maybe hanging around metalheads has desensitized me to what I feel is merely fast-tempo alternative rock.

As for the next album being heavier, I sure hope so. Oceania, while good, isn't an album I like listening to in its entirety, beginning to end. The calmness of it just wears on me.

I just really like 7shades, it's heavy but not metal, I love that style of guitars and lyrics. And yes it is weird that the song is not up.. I haven't even seen a true set list.. Just the one billy posted.

Doubtful. This is very strange. Color me disappointed, but I'm not really expecting a Black Sunshine recording to go up from this show. Any word on what was played last night?

I'll TRY to reserve judgement but I'm not liking the main riff at all. Billy used to be an endless supply of killer riffs.

Like, as recently as 08. As Rome Burns/Sound of Silence.

Sweeeeeeeeet,
Now thats the song I would've ended with on Oceania after Wildflower of course,

From the sounds of that song Billy and SP are really coming after all of us.
better put your best pair of running shoes on and lets run towards them ♥

a taste of whats to come?
Their next album is going to be Killer.

the doubters lips must be bleeding by now.

Cool song. Needs work, of course. Definitely a faster tempo, at least at various points in the song.

Still, I can imagine what this would sound like with proper production. Its promising.

I am not a fan of it so far. I hope it turns into something really great. I like the heaviness of it, yet it sounds musically sloppy and the riffs are uninspired. I hope that playing some of the new songs live will lead to some great results like it did for some of the earlier pumpkin tracks.

It just occurred to me that the instrumentation sounds kinda like "Black Oblivion", which, like this song, is in the too heavy to be a good non-heavy song, but not heavy enough to be a good heavy song (which was basically Zeitgeist's problem IMO).

It needs to be heavier!

A slightly faster tempo would serve this song well. But I think it rocks, I love the screams and the guitars. Can't wait to hear it live, hopefully they play this on Sunday

I have to say they are learning more and more what Mike's strengths are, and that makes a huge difference. I really like it. It's cool, and the energy is really high. It reminds me a lot of like "Mouths of Babes" or "Tribute to Johnny"

Where do you guys hear Black Sabbath in this?

I guess towards 3:50 or so it's a little Sabbath-y... but I don't hear it all over this song.

I'm also listening to some Black Sabbath here but my first impression was "This is totally Metallica", like Enter Sandman.
