29 March 2013 - 05:22 PMfrom billy? very unlikely i think. he's a perfectionist and absolutely revels in adding in layers, post-processing, and building up the world a song inhabits until it's as complex and complete as the vision in his head. i can't imagine hime doing something like frank black did (can't remember the name of the album right now, it was recorded live in studio), not with the pumpkins anyway. it would be a separate project and a one off if he ever did it.
I mean like MCIS. They recorded several basic tracks, specially the rockers, live in the studio for that album. With overdubs added later and all the post-processing you want. But still, you get that feel, you know? If you really are proud of your bandmates skills as musicians, then the live-in-studio tracking would be a great idea. Billy often underestimates James and D'arcy's playing but they were still able to pull it up for Mellon Collie. So that's what I meant, not a stripped-down album, but something with more... BALLS. On the other hand, I think I can't hear Billy's perfectionism on Oceania.
29 March 2013 - 02:45 PMI would love a live-in-the-studio album, with a good mix and decent mastering. Not another glossy brickwalled mess, we need more BASS and dynamics.
07 December 2012 - 11:37 AMI wasn't impressed with the quality of this pressing. You can check out my comments on my vinyl copy a few pages back.
Big releases on vinyl by major labels such as this one are just considered novelty items given to the vinyl manufacturer who puts in the lowest bid. I doubt EMI or the vinyl manufacturer who did this pressing cares about quality. Clearly whoever would have approved the test pressing for these didn't have a clue. For $70, I was expecting much, much better quality.
Actually, I understand that these new pressings were done at Pallas, which is considered one of the best pressing plants in the world. I think the problem is in the way these were cut.
01 December 2012 - 01:04 PMHow does the vinyl sound? I couldn't find any comments about its sound quality and just got Siamese Dream reissue on vinyl and I really liked it.
