  1. In Topic: James vs. Jeff

The reason why I chose James: cause he plays with a certain feel and adds a real atmosphere, usually contributing vastly to the final result. (compare quality of songs with james and without james, let's say a "Bodies" versus a "Inkless" or "Rocket" vs. "Panopticon")

Jeff might be the ultimate shredder to some, the godawful ending notes of Quasar (which i still happen to find SP's best song post-reunion) where Jeff just keeps on playing and cannot restrain himself from shutting up, illustrate for me where his guitarplaying lacks.

I don't quite get the fan love for Ma Belle! That song was about the final nail in the coffin for my Pumpkins fandom for two years

Same here although i like Zeitgeist much more than Teargarden or even Oceania. I find Ma Belle a bombastic song, lacking any feel or emotion

After all these months I 've got to admit I find myself harking back to only a handful of (really good) songs: Quasar (for me still by far the standout SP trademark sound and the best they did since United States), Pale Horse and Pinwheels.

The rest varies for me from mediocre with some nice ideas (i.c. My Love Is winter, Inkless -why does such a great song has to end in total bombastic awfulness?) over 'just not feeling it' (Violet Rays, Oceania) to dragging dullness (Glissandra, Panopticon -the latter ending on a great note but i hate the first half of the song and the verses)

Still I appreciate the effort and enjoy listening to new Pumpkins music anno 2012-2013 and am sure the next one will contain a few gems again. Though I'm afraid a studio release of As Rome Burns and Lonely Is The Name might not surface before the Oceania Reissues in 2025 ;)/>
