This entire record should go down in history as Thee Greatest B- sides Ever!
Typical Pumpkins putting out their best work as b-sides, but it dont say it on the cover so treat it like another album which it is.
SOOTHE is how i would describe Billy's voice as it beckons you across intricately plucked strings of your heart. Listen carefully and you will hear a greyhound go buy and a taxi beep its horn at the end!
FRAIL AND BEDAZZLED is pure dream pop/rock with Jimmy smashing his way in as the guitars sweep you away painting a pumpkin landscape with great solos to boot before crashing and Billy screams "I'm the boy who really needs", indeed!
PLUME grooves in nicely with more virtuous solos from James and Billy.
WHIR yourself round, just to fall back down! Beautiful words so heartfelt and a wonderful folksong with Darcy's unmistakable basslines. Check that eerie ending!
BLUE AWAY does just that as James shows us what a great songwriter he is (check out his album, its pure LOVE!).Lovely clean textures build as James sings in that Lennonesque style of his peeling out a jaw dropping solo making Billy very jealous i'm sure, or was at the time! Lovely lovely song.
PISSANT Probably their fastest song ever(bar Glass Theme). Jimmy takes the reigns again as the band go punk and Billy dishes out a mean solo, in riposte to James! " Talk revolution, as if it matters now, i dont care anyway just give me what i want!", YYYeeah!!
HELLO KITTY KAT is a solid state beast of a toon with more amazing drumming from Jimmy and scorching solos.
OBSCURED arrives quite nicely after to soothe you once again. A lovely dreampiece with interesting percussion from Jimmy.
LANDSLIDE is a brave take on Stevie Nicks and you can feel that Billy means it from the bottom of his heart as he picks out this gem. Nice vocals as always.
STARLA is why you need this record, plain and simple.Their best song ever, epic in all proportions as it builds from that gentle strum into a compelling piece with so many colours and breaks down with delicious tabla and guitar in the middle before finishing off with some stupendous guitarwork.Estupenda Graca!
BLUE and A GIRL NAMED SANDOZ are both good but not great but wait for LA DOLLY VITA. This is another superb toon with great vocals and textures and builds like STARLA with Jimmy showing you why he's the only drummer for this truly amazing band.
Show off!
SPACED gift wraps it all with strange effects and Billy warbling on about 'lost souls' and stuff. Intriguing.
Probably my fave all time album!
