This is a beautiful album but it needs some getting used to. If you listen to it a few times, it will start growing on you like kudzu on growth hormones. Since I’m not a big fan of the whole electric sound and all, I appreciated the beauty of this album through its lyrics. Even though it sounds so far away from billy’s old sp materials, it still has that unique dark and strange, and at some times incomprehensible, lyrics that he writes so well and loved by all of us. It’s eerie and moody and that’s what I love about this album, and also what I missed from billy in his songs in zwan.
Mina Loy (M.O.H.) and The Camera Eye are my favorites in this album. I don’t like his rendition of To Love Somebody though. Maybe because I expected so so much that it would be an uber track because of the billy corgan-robert smith tandem but I felt a little short from it. But still, it is great and excellently executed album that will surely raise anyone’s standard for the beautiful and profound.
