Why I'm A Fan

The Bullet With Butterfly Wings video changed my life. I knew of the Pumpkins during the Siamese Dream era and had heard the singles from that album on the radio. However, to be honest i didnt really know much about them. Then i saw the bullet with butterfly wings video and was instantly struck with a lightning bolt. Here was a song and a video that were artistic and had many layers to unwrap and study and enjoy. Also, shortly after this i had a dream that i went to the store to buy the single and the cd was colored orange and yellow; no lie. Then one day i was at school and a friend of mine had bought the single and i borrowed it and when i opened it i saw that the cd had etchings of yellow and orange on the face; i knew then that divine intervention was happening. I was meant to love and adore this band. This was a huge difference compared to other music and/or bands at the time. I then went out and bought mellon collie as soon as it was released. Once i listened to it, i realized this was going to be "my band." The band that would become my obsession. So why am i a fan? Because the pumpkins go against the grain visually, sonically, and aesthetically when compared to many other bands. You cannot categorize their music. They have fast songs, slow songs, heavy songs, light songs, electric, acoustic, simple, complex, etc. etc. Yet each song strikes a chord. Whether its "blank" from the tonight, tonight single or "tales of a scorched earth" from mellon collie, every song is magnificent and endears itself to creating a connection to the fans who listen to it. I could go on and on so i better stop, but i am a fan because the pumpkins do something that no other band is able to do for me: move me in every possible way and have a song that speaks to me in whatever situatuion (hardships or blessings) that i have experienced.
