I was drawn to the lyrics and sound before I even knew how big SP actually had been in the 90s. I kept hearing songs on the radio that I loved, and when I found out who they were by, it was ALWAYS the Smashing Pumpkins. This kept happening enough times that I finally said, "Wow. I think I like this band." So I've collected everything theyve ever recorded ever since and I really do love it all. Unfortunately they broke up only a couple of years after my discovery, so I never got to see them live. What I appreciate most about the band is Billy's ability to remake the band's sound over the years without losing touch with the basic SP vibe that I can never quite describe in words. Even his solo stuff had that undertone to it. I saw his TheFutureEmbrace concert live and it was the biggest eargasm of my life. I was in awe. Billy Corgan is an effing genius. And a really great guy too (I got to meet him on his book signing tour for Blinking With Fists). No matter what he creates, it comes from a special talent that he has and always seems to be a hit, at least to me. I am loving the *new* sound of Zeitgeist, but I'm also loving that the old sound is still laced into it. So, hooray for an old sound recreated into the NOW! Overall, there is no other band in the world that has come close to being as precious to me as SP. I love it all! I finally got to see them live on October 23rd and it was just effing amazing. Billy did it. He brought his band back. The mighty SP lives on! =)
