interests me. I agree that in general instinct is lacking in humans today, but I tend to differentiate between instinct and "instincts". Perhaps loosing one means loosing the other, but "instincts" tell us to eat and instinct tells us that danger lurks close by (although we may have no real way to justify those feelings).
Other than that, I think that only from a human perspective do we diminish the roll of a Cow to insignificant. This may sound new age-y, but considering the vast ecosystem that we live in, each species playing a vital roll. Consider the concern over the newly discovered and sudden dying off of Bees...
I agree with your thought of immorality, although I think that morality is a construct of society, however, to contradict myself, even in the animal kingdom morality of some sort is displayed when a female animal accepts an orphan into her own family, as that certainly hinders her ability to raise and provide for her own brood, and really goes against the theory of survival of the fittest.
BTW, today I thought it might be nice to be able to talk to my cat so I knew what she was thinking...
