I've posted this message to a lot of people in the hope there is actually a little more news out there about the current enforced silence. Does anyone know of any formal explanation for it?
This is just speculation, but a few months ago, JukeBoxF*ckUp posted a news article giving his opinions on the weaknesses of the site. It resulted in a lot of comments, one of which was from PMM. S/he asked why s/he continued to allow people to post those comments of the sort. More recently, PMM appeared again to complain about the comments resulting from the post on Kafka because they were longer than the article. Is this the reason for it?
Prior to the complete gag, the opportunity to edit also disappeared. Was this to encourage people to write intelligent comments instead of scrawling any kind of stupidity?
With the American tour coming up, could PMM have been worried about newcomers being attacked? Or, alternatively, could it have been fears of the New Staff Writers being attacked? (The irony is that the initial ad for writers stipulated that they would be writing articles to incite discussion.) I'll shamefully admit to having picked on people on the site and can understand why the gag might be deemed appropriate for fear of site-users being attacked and frightened away. But why not just gag me?
What most disturbs me is how effectively we've been muzzled. This seems to be very reflective of the modern times, where a voice is not really heard, no matter how loudly it might cry. As users of the site, there is really nothing we can do to get our 'voices' back, except to wait and hope.
If anyone has any further ideas, or information on what's happening, please leave me a comment on my Blog Page... If you can still comment there...
