Gish...

THE BEST DEBUT ALBUM EVER MADE!
You must listen to it time after time to get all detais that Gish hides. I just can't choose a favorite song, because it's like a spiritual-music unit.

gishy gishy

my dad once said to me the reason it was called Gish was because Billy couldn't spell fish...i laughed. just thought i'd say that. i love this album, everything about it is great..i wish i was around for the release, but i'm '93...anyway, ever since i heard this album i loved it, every song is brilliant

Sweet Potato!

Ignore the title...-Ahem- I can't believe I put off buying this album. I swear, I was just a stupid kid wanting and yearning for some Bullet With Butterfly Wings. I didn't know any better. I didn't know that I Am One would rock my argyle socks. Or that Siva would be so sweet. The Rhinoceros would calm the soul and leave it at peace while the rest of the songs became a blender to cleanse my MCIS loving soul and bringing it into the FULL SMASHING PUMPKINS loving world. This album, Siamese Dream, Lull, 3 Feet High (Live thing) they're wonderful O_O. But Gish...damn Gish was just beautiful. It left me with a sense of satisfaction that I didn't receive from Siamese Dream...MCIS or...even Machina II (which I happen to be in love with right now). Now I'm waiting for Corgan and Chamberlain to book ass back to the states and supply me with some good ol' Live GISH!

the Gish Review

I remember being so young in love with the band, somehow my buddy kyle k. had Gish and I listened to it before I stole my cosins "mellon collie" cassettes... I immediately fell in love with the Pumpkins and my dad bought me the CD. it wasn't 'til later i realized that purple cheap looking old CD my buddy had that reminded me of Guns n Roses was in fact the band that went on to control my life months earlier, Gish is my least favourite besides Zietgiest but a great CD.

Soft

My favourite song in this album is "Rhinoceros", it's so soft and I never get tired of listening it. That's just wonderful. You can listen to Pumpkins 24/7 without even thinking about changing song, 'cause their songs are all very soft no matter how much Billy screams with his rasping voice, it melts together. Love it.

Been a fan ever since I heard Gish for the first time. As much as I like all of their albums, Gish is probably my personal favorite, and the one that's closest to my heart musically.

I think it is one of the all-time best debut albums.

I love everything about Gish
the pumpkins were really growing. *~smile~* funny story, my pumpkin timing was of course a little off. I mean i was still playing pirates and barbies when they were touring. I had foud this blank cd that said gish, and had a bunch of drawn out mangle pumpkins. thats how i came upon gish, at first i wasn't sure if i liked it or not. I love it. Its so fun to watch the videos Siva and Rhinoceres.
beautiful past

This album shows why the pumpkins are different from their contemporaries

I always hated it when the pumpkins were lumped together with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and all of the other "grunge" and post-punk bands of the Seattle scene. While i love all of those bands as well, the pumpkins were much different and came from a different ilk all together and to me this album proves it. This album shows off their talent and love for heavy metal and psychedelia. While i love some of the bands of the grunge scene, the pumpkins' sound was what i was more naturally drawn to. Gish is the album that separated the SP from these other bands and made them truly unique both in their own time of music and for all time as well. Every song is raw, yet seductive. Dreamy, yet rationally contagious. There's something for everyone on this record. My personal all time favorites from the album are "snail" and "window paine." Both songs had many dynamics that were akin to something from black sabbath rather than something from the ramones. The varied song structure of the pumpkins is what kept me on my toes. One didnt know where a song would go next. They didnt adhere to the verse chorus verse structure of most pop songs (not that there is anything wrong with this, i just enjoy spontaneity and variety). As with this record and every other SP album that came afterward, there was always something new for the listener to discover each time he/she listened to the album. Always something new to appreciate that perhaps you didnt recognize before. That is what i love about any musician and any music; something that grows on you and something that is so intricate (whether simple or complex) that you continue to discover new things way past the first listen. I am going to by biased on any and eveery pumpkins record because i just think that they can do no wrong, whether that is true or not. This is why i will probably give every album and every song 5 stars. While not every album or song is the same, each one in and of themselves are unique and is able to move me in some way and they all have their own niche. No song is a throwaway song. Something not too many other bands can boast about. So with that said, I do give Gish 5 stars.

Personal favorites: Snail and Window Paine

a fitting start for something great

Raw and beautiful, this album still doesn’t fail to strike awe in me every time I listen to it. When it’s sober, it is emotive, and when it’s rough, it shakes you and the walls of your room. This is my favorite album second to Siamese Dream. The guitars may not be as great as that of their latter albums, but nevertheless, billy’s lyrics shine, and for me this is the album where jimmy’s beats can be truly appreciated. I like Rhinoceros, Crush and Suffer but my ultimate favorites are Snail and Window Paine. It fittingly starts the sp’s great sound and you can’t consider yourself a true pumpkinhead if you don’t love this one.

Another Great album
