Pisces Iscariot...
Monday, May 12, 2008 - 8:48 pm - bestrongnow
I underrated "PISCES" for a long time, until read that crazy booklet, and get so curious. Then, I discovered a BRILIANT B-sides album. Pick the details of Gish + the passion of Siamese Dream, you'll got Pisces Iscariot.
Actually, my third favorite album.

is one of my favs, i listen to it alot. i know it is b-sides, but i think all of these songs stand up by themselves, which is probably why so many love it. i love every song on here, my fav though is probalby frail and bedazled. billy, you do such good work.

yay!!!

A good companion piece to "Gish" and "Siamese Dream"

Any Pumpkins fan, particularly fans of the "golden era" (it seems fans really romanticize the 1990-1994 time period) will enjoy this compilation. As an album, this is probably my least favorite Pumpkins release. But as a group of songs, this is an invaluable companion to "Gish" and especially "Siamese Dream". While both of those albums are tight and focused, "Pisces Iscariot" and "Earphoria" give the listener a rougher, broader sense of what the Pumpkins were all about back then. While I really like most of the songs on PI, I can see why they were left off Gish and SD and am glad they were. Even awesome songs like "Soothe," "Starla," "Frail and Bedazzled", and "Obscured" are not up to snuff with the actual SD album, but hey, any other band would kill for outtakes like these!

ME DEMORÉ EN SABER QUE EXISTIA

ASÍ ES, ESTABA TAN ATURDIDA CON EL EFECTO SIAMESE DREAM QUE NO IMAGINABA QUE LA BANDA PODRÍA SEGUIR PRODUCIENDO MATERIAL DIGNO DE ESCUCHAR...
UN AMIGO GRINGO ME REGALÓ UN CASET, NO DARÉ FECHAS, SIN EMBARGO LE AGRADEZCO HASTA HOY, ÉL UN FANÁTICO INCONDICIONAL, HA HECHO LO QUE YO SIEMPRE HE QUERIDO: TENER UNA BANDA TRIBUTO...

Such an important and unimportant album at the same time

I remember getting Pisces and Siamese Dream shortly after falling in love with Mellon Collie, I was so hypnotized by the band that every song just threw an arrow into my heart, I remember my father actually getting mad at me once as a Kid yelling "smashing pumpkins" "smashing pumpking" THAT"S ALL YOU TALK ABOUT BOY!!!! lol... anyways favourite song "WHIR" & "La Dolly Vita"

Whir yourself around, just to fall back down

Georgie17xx, this was made 1994, and SD was made 1993, am I wrong? Anyway, I think this is my favourite album. Whir is such an amazing artwork, like I said in an other review, it all melts together. Underbart! Love the lyrics, everything.

i am so confused

I listened to this song after a bad break up before i would go running and while i stretched. Needless to say i was the best stretched runner of all time. Very soothing and clears your mind to listen to it. I consider myself a big fan and they are my favorite band ever(im 37) and this is the song i find to be there best. A song for the ages.

WHIR

For me this is the best SP song ever, I'm not kidding! This song makes me smile every time I hear it and the melody is sooooooooo beautiful. Along with the dreamy atmosphere and spacey hissing vocals this is #1 for me and I doubt that will ever change.

After this album came out I wished i was a pisces. LOL. I see alot of love for Starla but for me the gem is Obscured. There is subtle but cosmic guitar plucking right as the 2nd verse starts that could melt your heart and your mind. The lyrics could mean anything and the song just flows like a river. If I was to make a list of all the times that Billy achieves vocal perfection this song would definately be on the list. The acoustic version is almost as good with its alternative lyrics but the bass is what keeps me coming back to the studio recording. The 2nd runner up would be "Blue" because of the transition. To me the Pumpkins are prety much the masters of transition. When Blue gets done being a fast song it slows down to a crawl with some godly guitars very similar to the Geek USA intermission/transition. The lyrics are just too sweet. Hearing the actual love that is in that song reminds me of how beautiful love can be.(BTW if you are a fan of these slow transition pieces there is an entire song they did LIVE called "Offer Up" that will fulfill your needs. I believe you can DL here i the Audio section under 1992 Paris Whir is as lovely as an alternative country song can be. "She says she wants to marry me, She says she wants a baby, Its not easy when youre scared." If anyone from the band ever does read this I just want to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart for sharing this with me and the world.

Starla Dear!

This entire record should go down in history as Thee Greatest B- sides Ever!

Typical Pumpkins putting out their best work as b-sides, but it dont say it on the cover so treat it like another album which it is.
SOOTHE is how i would describe Billy's voice as it beckons you across intricately plucked strings of your heart. Listen carefully and you will hear a greyhound go buy and a taxi beep its horn at the end!
FRAIL AND BEDAZZLED is pure dream pop/rock with Jimmy smashing his way in as the guitars sweep you away painting a pumpkin landscape with great solos to boot before crashing and Billy screams "I'm the boy who really needs", indeed!
PLUME grooves in nicely with more virtuous solos from James and Billy.
WHIR yourself round, just to fall back down! Beautiful words so heartfelt and a wonderful folksong with Darcy's unmistakable basslines. Check that eerie ending!
BLUE AWAY does just that as James shows us what a great songwriter he is (check out his album, its pure LOVE!).Lovely clean textures build as James sings in that Lennonesque style of his peeling out a jaw dropping solo making Billy very jealous i'm sure, or was at the time! Lovely lovely song.
PISSANT Probably their fastest song ever(bar Glass Theme). Jimmy takes the reigns again as the band go punk and Billy dishes out a mean solo, in riposte to James! " Talk revolution, as if it matters now, i dont care anyway just give me what i want!", YYYeeah!!
HELLO KITTY KAT is a solid state beast of a toon with more amazing drumming from Jimmy and scorching solos.
OBSCURED arrives quite nicely after to soothe you once again. A lovely dreampiece with interesting percussion from Jimmy.
LANDSLIDE is a brave take on Stevie Nicks and you can feel that Billy means it from the bottom of his heart as he picks out this gem. Nice vocals as always.
STARLA is why you need this record, plain and simple.Their best song ever, epic in all proportions as it builds from that gentle strum into a compelling piece with so many colours and breaks down with delicious tabla and guitar in the middle before finishing off with some stupendous guitarwork.Estupenda Graca!
BLUE and A GIRL NAMED SANDOZ are both good but not great but wait for LA DOLLY VITA. This is another superb toon with great vocals and textures and builds like STARLA with Jimmy showing you why he's the only drummer for this truly amazing band.
Show off!
SPACED gift wraps it all with strange effects and Billy warbling on about 'lost souls' and stuff. Intriguing.

Probably my fave all time album!
