I don't live in the UK either!

I just get the *shitty* ordinary version ... I just feel cheated!!

Might as well just start downloading and cheating them out of money too *muahahahahaha*

Very well said...in each post.

Marketing is obviously necessary but BC/SP has gone overboard here. 7....SEVEN "versions" of 1 album. I'm a hardcore fan, but not quite THAT hardcore. What a joke.

I'm Sorry

It's art alright - the corporate art of perception and profit

I'm sorry, but i fail to see how releasing 7 versions of one album - with barely any different content - can be considered art.

i even struggle to see how anyone could convince themselves that it is art.

Surely there are better ways for Billy & the SP's to express their art - than releasing 7 different versions of one album - all with slightly different content.

I'm in no mood to be financially punished - for someone else's idea of "art"

US Exclusive/Marketing Strategy/Supporting good music

To all of you in the UK who are complaining about not having a Best Buy in your country and not being able to buy this release, aren't you forgetting something? The Green cover release of Zeitgeist is only available at HMV in the UK. Granted, it does not have a DVD or bonus tracks with it, but it is still exclusive to the UK. It is my favorite color of the album(besides blue which doesn't count because there is no hard copy of it, just Itunes)and I even imported a copy to the US. Whatever your opinion of the marketing strategy, (and you are as entitled to that opinion as I am mine)I personally have enjoyed it because I am a collector. I enjoyed collecting all the different colors. Even if they really think everyone will buy all the different versions and are doing it to be greedy, they are still one of my all time favorite bands. Their music is worth supporting, in spite of any greedy marketing scheme, and I would want them to sell enough records to be around for a long time. I was sad when they broke up, and now that they are back, I would like them to be around awhile. Good music(aside from the Pumpkins and other old favorites from the 90's) is few and far between these days. The airwaves are, with few exceptions, a cesspool of sh** with little originality and mainly cookie cutter bands. Yes, there is good indie music to be found, but in the 90's there was actually good music on the radio and we should support the old favorites (even if you buy only 1 copy of Zeitgeist) who have survived and allow them to continue making great music.....

"When someone loves you - i expect them to be the one person in this shallow earth, to be honest to me - in good and in bad."

Sometimes, we don't understand those who are loving us the most. Honestly, I believe Smashing Pumpkins Love music but they see music larger than that we find on the disc.

For my part, I don't believe one minute they are obliged by their company for make some choices, publicity or multiple discs or everything else. What they do, they choose to do it. Why? It's why I say it's art. We have to understand what they are saying to us, in their music but also in their other choices.

Many years ago, I read a book recommanded by Billy: The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot. I also regularly visited www.integralnaked.org where Billy was involved. It showed a totally different aspect of his work. On himself and obviously with his work (www.in.integralinstitute.org/avantgarde/showtime.aspx) .

What I feel in my heart, it is the extraordinary Love Smashing Pumpkins has for his fans. It's not an easy love where they give all that we want but a deep Love where they give what they think we need. Billy said this lately another time. Let's try to understand what they say.

I so agree with you ... I've already bought "In rainbows" but - even though I do consider myself a huge SP-fan - have not yet bought Zeitgeist.
WHY?
Because I wanted the edition with the song Zeitgeist ... and no where to get it! So far I've only listened to the album by borrowing it of a friend.
and now ... re-released with DVD ... wooow - yay I think... BUT Best Buy do not ship to Europe (?!?!) so how am I supposed to get hold of it???

I am NOT happy!!

Maybe I should just "convert" to full-time Radiohead fan

When someone loves you - i expect them to be the one person in this shallow earth, to be honest to me - in good and in bad. When i'm making them proud, i want them to reinforce that, when i am making them feel love, i want them to encourage that.

But it works two ways.

When i am being unfair, i want them to frown at me. When i am being ruthless, i want them to yell and scream and tell me to stop - as they are not quality's i want to represent.

I love the Smashing Pumpkins enough to tell them when their music touches my heart, connects to my life - but also to tell them they are being ruthless and not treating fans with the amount of respect i think we deserve.

I understand many people here love being able to own as much pumpkin product as possible - but i believe to have 7 different versions, which consist of collectively, only 4 "other" songs, a 20 minute DVD & a bigger booklet - is not a tasteful way to offer new product to your fans. Also, it will not affect the amount of population that will have the opportunity to hear pumpkins material - as i can guarantee that close to 90% of all consumers of this Silver edition will already own at least one version of Zeitgeist already. It also want affect the pumpkins getting more radio airplay one iota either - as "singles" sales are the main influence in on radio airplay, so that is also incorrect.

I can assure you from an australian point of view, only one radio station, pretty much Australia wide - has played any of "Zeitgeist" on a semi regular basis. and that is perhaps one song in every 2-3 days (triple J) - so if the strategy was made to have that impact, it hasn't worked.

Any publicity this "multiple" release has had on "neutral" SP fans or "potential" SP fans - has been negative. i have not read any music news article regarding it which hasn't been either neutral or aggressive in their response to this marketing. So if anything, it is alienating potential new fans.

there should have been 2 versions - the standard red, and the metallic cd with the 4 bonus tracks, extended booklet & the DVD. With the "Deluxe" edition costing around $40 U.S.

in fact, check here below to see the ideal way to do such a thing - the way radiohead has release "In rainbows". You can purchase the album for download at any price you choose - or order a deluxe range of product for it at about US $90 - which includes the album on cd with a bonus disc of unreleased tracks, the album on vinyl and other such great radiohead products. All the publicity in this marketing stunt has been positive and widely applauded.

I believe either this manner or the "2 editions" manner is fair to us fans, and helps increase interest in the album, in a positive way.

i hope that "Ma Belle" becomes available for download on I-tune's (as Stellar & Death from above have ) and as a loyal fan, i have the opportunity to access this song legally.

Billy said many times that he dearly loved his country. When we have a special love, it is natural to give more, particularly when we see the other in Truth.

Maybe they are giving more attention to United States for United States are able to give in return.
