May 21, 2007 - COMPUTER SERVER CRASH HALTS TICKET SALES FOR THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' NINE-SHOW RESIDENCY IN ASHEVILLE

COMPUTER SERVER CRASH HALTS TICKET SALES FOR THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' NINE-SHOW RESIDENCY IN ASHEVILLE, NC;

THE BAND'S SINGLE "TARANTULA" IS RUSHED OUT DIGITALLY TO RADIO STATIONS DUE TO EXTREME DEMAND

BAND SELLS OUT EIGHT SHOWS AT THE FILLMORE IN SAN FRANCISCO; ADDS THREE MORE, WHICH ALSO SELL OUT

Due to overwhelming demand, the computer server handling tickets for THE
SMASHING PUMPKINS' nine show residency in Asheville, NC crashed
yesterday (Sunday, May 20), forcing the venue to halt the sale of
tickets. Tickets will again be available starting today at 7:00 PM
Eastern for the concerts (set for June 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30 and July
2, 3, and 5) at the Orange Peel. The $20.00 tickets (plus applicable
service charges) will be available at www.ticketmaster.com
and www.theorangepeel.net
.
*** ALL RESIDENCY DATES AT THE FILLMORE AND THE ORANGE PEEL HAVE SINCE SOLD OUT***

Meanwhile, this past Friday, "Tarantula"--the first single from the
band's forthcoming album Zeitgeist--was premiered on KROQ in Los
Angeles, sparking a national craze when devoted Pumpkins fans recorded
and posted low-quality versions of the single online. Due to extreme
demand, "Tarantula" was rushed out that morning digitally to Rock and
Alternative Radio outlets that en masse played the single over the
weekend heavily prior to its intended impact date.

In San Francisco, the band sold out eight shows (at $25 per ticket) at
the Fillmore over the weekend and added three more (July 15, 16 and 18)
to accommodate the demand, which also sold out immediately.

Here are the Asheville, NC and San Francisco, CA tour dates.

I feel very fortunate
Saturday, June 2, 2007 - 8:19 pm - JoeGrossman
Based on what I've read, I feel very fortunate that I was able to get through to Ticketmaster and get my tickets. I've had many failed attempts in the past to get through, and when I got right to the page this time I thought that perhaps the quick announcement that tickets were going on sale caught a lot of people off guard. It seems I've been fortunate where the Pumpkins are concerned, for whatever reason. When they were at the Tower Theater outside Philadelphia for the Adore tour I ended up on the first row and at the end of the show James Iha pointed for me to come on stage (that was the tour where the band picked people out of the audience to take their instruments and "play" during the last number). So I guess I can say I have been pretty lucky when it comes to the band (so far), even if it is purely dumb luck. Question: does anyone know who will be joining them in their June 27 show in Asheville? Pollstar lists opening acts only up to June 24. Thanks.

Tickets for SFO from 245 USD?
Tuesday, May 29, 2007 - 7:47 am - gradil
I learned just a little too late that SP would be at the Fillmore pricisely on two dates where I'll be in SFO on holidays. I will not be able to see them in my country in 2 weeks time, but SFO I couldn't miss.
Unfortunatelly I was a few hours too late and it sold out.
Correction. Tickets are actually being sold on a few websites, from 245 USD and reaching more than 800. And as per ryo1127 even much more! This is why they get sold out so soon. For some heartless guys to earn a few hundred bucks with no effort.
It's time the bands start acting on ticket touting!

sad day

Like so many others, I was a victim of the ticketweb.com incident. I spent 6+ hours online trying to figure out what was going on. It was an unfortunate incident and hopefully wont' happen again. The next day, I was set on ticketmaster and the same thing happened to me as it did to zwanphony and I had the whole "waiting 7 minutes" and tickets were gone. sigh. I am just going to be patient and realize that maybe I'm not meant to be in NC in June. Michigan needs me. Yeah. That's it!

My condolences to you, but I think you might've fallen prey to the tab issue on TicketMaster. I understand your frustration with TicketWeb. I got lucky on Sunday and got tickets. Monday however was another story. TicketMaster went right through at 7PM when I clicked the link for the first show. The only time I saw the wait click up and down like you described was when I tried to search for tickets in another tab. It seems that TicketMaster's website is setup to prevent this type of "simultaneous ticket acquisition". SP Management AND The Orange Peel are definitely without fault in this mess. They were promised by TicketWeb that the servers would hold. They didn't. Tickets sold out within minutes on TicketMaster on Monday because this marks the Smashing Pumpkins first shows in the US since December 2000 and there were less than 9000 tickets available. Less than 9000 for the undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of fans who wanted to attend from around the world. You are NOT the only one disappointed in not getting a ticket, but NOTHING conspired against you. Everyone had a fair shot at getting tickets for these shows. Please realize that, and I do hope you get the chance to see the Pumpkins in the near future.

hopeless.

I would like to state my displeasure and frustration with TicketWeb as well as TicketMaster. My brother, his friend, and I have been Smashing Pumpkins fans since the early 90's after we first heard Siamese Dream get some airplay down here in South Carolina. We have been to quite a few gigs since then and after seven years of anticipation, hope, and sorrow we were very displeased to have spent all of 3 hours Sunday constantly clicking and retrying to get tickets as the servers slowed to a halt. Before the sale inititation, we were all set at 12:30 awaiting the online sale on TicketWeb and were saddened upon finding out nothing could be done after barely managing to log in and stay logged in. Of course, thanks to the Orange Peel's website being updated we were informed that there were server issues and there would be another chance at 7pm today. Once again, we all logged in and got ready for 7:00pm on the second and began trying to obtain tickets for the first or second Saturday shows. To our discontent, none of us obtained tickets even though it seemed we all would be able to purchase them since the webpage informed all of use that we would need to wait 5 to 7 to 9 to 11 to 13 to even 15 minutes as the tickets were being obtained. If we had known that none of these "waiting" attempts would have fallen through with success, we wouldn't have bothered to wait and instead would have kept trying to get tickets. We tried to obtain tickets for roughly an hour hoping to somehow obtain such a long-awaited chance to see the Smashing Pumpkins play locally. It upsets me that through all of our hard efforts (taking off from work, pre-setting up an account, etc) none of them have paid off and other persons whose interests are solely in obtaining tickets to sell at $1000 +++ on Ebay have had better luck. The system needs to be changed and needs to allow those who log in first and foremost to have the best shot at getting tickets (the more dedicated the fan, the better the chance). Of course, there should be a session time-out if there is no activity within approximately twenty minutes. I am also frustrated that the hyperlinks and form buttons to buy and/or search for tickets for each and every date were and are still available/functional even after being sold out within a matter of "minutes". Please update the page if the tickets are sold out so that your users do not sit trying to buy tickets for an hour or more after they have been sold out in minutes!!! This not only saves us time, but it also saves you bandwidth! I would much have rather camped in line to obtain a ticket, but there was no chance of doing so for this concert. We are generally displeased with the system itself and the fact that after more than a decade of being hardcore Smashing Pumpkins fans, having no chance of seeing the first reunion show in the United States. Please feel free to forward this to the right person or persons at TicketWeb, TicketMaster, or the Smashing Pumpkins Management. We would have very much liked to visit the Orange Peel and intake in the experience of our lifetimes.

Sincerely, Zwanphony

Gots mine!

Can't wait!! Never been to The Orange Peel before but form the looks of it, this is going to be a monumental show. For those that will be there... can't wait to see you and the Pumpkins!!!

the Orange Peel was awesome throughout the whole thing though!

I was very impressed with how well the Orange Peel dealt with such a frustrating situation -- by visiting their boards and their website I was completely aware of what was going on with TicketWeb and knew as soon as they did what our next step would be to get tickets!

And I was ridiculously lucky and can't wait to be at the OP!

From the way they've handled this situation, they've certainly gained me as a patron even when it's not the Smashing Pumpkins.

TicketWeb, however. Well. Disappointment. Glad I don't work there. Especially frustrating that they posted no bulletins on their front page, email, or other explanation appropriately explaining their mistake but instead left their homepage as it had been originally. Far after my customer support question was applicable (which had been sent before sunday) I received an answer which basically gave me a link to their FAQ's. Orange Peel wins this round for customer service!

That ticket crash thing sucked. I spent 6 hours online the day they went on sale. Luckily, I got tickets the next day. As far as the will call thing, as long as the person who pays $2500 for the ticket is with the actual person who is picking up the tickets at the door, they will be able to enter. But they have to be with the person whose name is on the ticket... As in, actually physically with the person. Granted, the guy selling those tickets for $2500 IS a douch.
